Minecraft:Java Edition Beta 1.8 (PAX Prime)

At Template:W, Minecraft:Mojang showcased an early build of Minecraft:Beta 1.8 for public viewing. It was compiled on August 25, 2011<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> and showcased during the event which started the next day.

Differences from Beta 1.8 Pre-release

Blocks

Minecraft:Dead bush

• Missing a tooltip.

Minecraft:Vines

• Missing a tooltip.

• Uses a full block model.

Minecraft:Fence gate

• Missing a tooltip.
• In the inventory it appears as a flat texture: File:Oak Planks (texture) JE3 BE1.png.

Minecraft:Cactus

• Receiving damage from cacti replenishes the hunger bar.<ref>Template:Twitter</ref>

Mobs

General

• Every mob drops ten individual Minecraft:experience orbs on death.
• Passive mobs do not run around upon being attacked.

• Old models with flat snouts are used.

Minecraft:Endermen

• Drop 0-2 Minecraft:diamonds on death.

World generation

Minecraft:Rose

• Generates in the world.

Minecraft:Villages

• Can generate in any biome, even in oceans.

Minecraft:Deserts

• Sand generates as a single layer on top of dirt.

Minecraft:Swamps

• A placeholder biome takes the place of swamps.
• Shares the same flat height values as swamps.
• Uses the same colors as Minecraft:plains.
• Trees and short grass do not generate.

Minecraft:Taigas

• A placeholder biome takes the place of taigas.
• Uses the same colors as plains.
• Sparse oak trees generate.
• Short grass does not generate.

Minecraft:Extreme hills

• Short grass does not generate.

Minecraft:Ocean

• Short grass does not generate.

Gameplay

Minecraft:Inventory Template:Hotbar

• The player spawns with various tools and items when creating a world in Minecraft:Survival mode.

Spawn

• The player spawns in a Minecraft:village.

Minecraft:Sprinting

• Only lasts five seconds at a time with movement speed and field of view decreasing during this time period.

Minecraft:Heads-up display

• On top of the Minecraft:experience bar, if the player has attained at least one level, the player's "skill points" are displayed. These are simply three times the amount of levels that the player has.
• The version label in the top left corner of the screen is not included.

Minecraft:Controls

• Key binds cannot be bound to mouse buttons.<ref>Template:Twitter</ref>
• Pressing Template:Key does not require holding down Template:Key to adjust fog distance.<ref>Template:Twitter</ref>

General

Minecraft:Title screen

• The old Minecraft:Mojang logo is used.

Minecraft:Multiplayer

• The multiplayer join screen does not have a refresh button.

Minecraft:Lighting

• Uses old update code.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>

Trivia

• The PAX Prime 2011 build of Beta 1.8 is the only version of Minecraft:Java Edition to be playable exclusively at a live event.
