Minecraft:Dr. Seuss

From SAS Gaming Wiki

Template:StubTemplate:Needs renderTemplate:Exclusive Template:Infobox map Dr. Seuss is a Minecraft:Marketplace map by Shaliquinn's Schematics that explores children's books by Template:Wp, namely Template:Wp, Template:Wp, and Template:Wp. It also features 15 skins based on the characters of the books.

Summary

The map is set on a floating grassy island branching into three Minecraft:sandstone paths with pointed bottoms, each leading to a giant structure resembling an open book. The main island has an oddly shaped house with a striped white-and-red hat reminiscent of the one worn by the Cat in the Hat. Next to it is a magenta Truffula tree from The Lorax and a bending, elongated version of the tree. At the player's perspective, the left path leads to Oh, The Places You'll Go!, the middle path leads to The Cat in the Hat, and the right path leads to The Lorax. The player can access any story from an Minecraft:end portal-like structure surrounded by Minecraft:stone bricks in front of the book, with a Minecraft:sign reading the title and the game genre.

The Lorax

Template:Spoiler warning

Street of the Lifted Lorax

The player spawns with Minecraft:Speed and Minecraft:Jump Boost effects on a Minecraft:stone block "at the far end of town where the Grickle-grass grows", and the first sentence of the book reads aloud in the background. There is a Minecraft:chest containing 15 coins and a hint book, followed by a Minecraft:birch sign guiding them to exit the minigame anytime by returning to camp. Afterward, the player passes from a huge cliffside tunnel, leading to the Street of the Lifted Lorax. Next to the purple sign indicating the start of the street is a chest containing a rusty nail. The entire landscape is a desolation of Minecraft:coarse dirt, Minecraft:podzol, and Minecraft:dirt paths for the pathway to the Once-ler's house, as well as grickle-grass growing sparsely. All the buildings are large, abandoned factories, and the sky is covered in fake smoke clouds. The edges of the street are lined by tall, hollowed cliffs. As the player progresses, the reader mentions the Lorax, who was lifted away by the Once-ler long ago. Before a bridge is a chest containing a "very very very old snail shell". Farther along the way, the player reaches the Once-ler's house: a warped tower made of Minecraft:purpur, Minecraft:packed mud, and Minecraft:mangrove planks and the only intact building. Next to it is the Lorax's platform: a ring of Minecraft:logs surrounded by Minecraft:polished andesite with a sign reading "UNLESS". After ringing the bell by pressing a button, the Once-ler, who remains invisible in his lerkim up the tower, requires the player "fifteen cents and a nail and the shell of a great-great-great-grandfather snail", which they can drop inside the pail (a Minecraft:cauldron). Once the requisite amount has been paid, the pail vanishes and the Once-ler lets down his whisper-ma-phone to narrate the story he rarely tells. The player can then press the button on a Minecraft:note block to move to the next location, which interrupts the story.

Truffula forest

After interacting with the button, the player spawns at camp in what looks like the street in the Once-ler's past. The entire neighborhood is verdant and bright and lacks any buildings, surrounded by Minecraft:mossy cobblestone cliffs. There are many Minecraft:azaleas of both types, Minecraft:moss carpets, and other vegetation. Red, orange, yellow, purple, and magenta Truffula trees make up the forest, as well as colorful bushes and a winding river with humming-fish. Bar-ba-loots and swomee-swans also populate the forest. Next to the player is the Once-ler on his cart, who remains overshadowed except for his dark green-gloved arms. The player can help him gather the items he needs to start a business by looking for signs across the forest with items next to them. From time to time, the Once-ler sends the player various rhyming messages to rush them. After gathering 17 items, they can place them in a cauldron at the end of the path, which spawns a note block button teleporting them to the Once-ler's new workshop.

The Once-ler's workshop

Inside the workshop, the player, granted Minecraft:Night Vision, finds a chest beside them with a hint book. There are many colorful Minecraft:shulker boxes with Truffula tufts and the Once-ler's stuff and belongings, as well as empty Minecraft:barrels. The player can gather the items and make use of the pile of Minecraft:wool blocks to reach the top. For assistance, they can get a brief Minecraft:Jump Boost effect by pressing the button on the wall. After reaching the window, they can collect an Minecraft:ender pearl to reach the other side of the workshop where they place the items in a Minecraft:hopper chest. After gathering the requisite items inside the chest, the player is teleported outside where the workshop is made up of Minecraft:terracotta blocks and several chests and shulker shells are scattered across the path. To help the Once-ler expand his workshop, the player can gather the items inside a cauldron in front of a Truffula stump where the Lorax emerges surrounded by bar-ba-loots. As the story continues, the Lorax "speaks for the trees" and opposes the Once-ler's harm to the forest to no avail. The player is then given a Thneed, the versatile product of processing Truffula tufts. Outside the workshop is the Once-ler's customer, whose head is covered in a Thneed due to its warped appearance. Upon placing the Thneed inside the cauldron, the customer dies and leaves behind three dollars and 98 cents separately, which the player can place inside another cauldron.

The Once-ler's factory

After filling the cauldron with the money they obtained, the player is teleported back to the workshop, this time completely empty. There is a pressure plate allowing the story to continue, and a button teleporting them outside. In the story, the Once-ler ignores the Lorax's warnings and calls his entire family to join him in building a factory as part of an economical opportunity. On the street, there are many pale purple trucks reading "You Need a Thneed" ridden by the Once-ler's family, only appearing as a pair of green arms. The player can follow the trucks all the way to the Once-ler's new factory, where they must press a button to enter. Inside, they can find a chest with a hint book and must swim through a 1 block high sunken maze to access the main room, where each of three cauldrons requires a Thneed of a specific color. To get a yellow Thneed, the player must solve the Minecraft:lever puzzle in the right sequence. To get a pink Thneed, they must light all Minecraft:redstone lamps with the buttons on the floor. To get a magenta Thneed, the player must make use of Minecraft:pressure plates on the floor. After gathering the requisite Thneeds, the story continues as the Once-ler creates the Super-Axe-Hacker for better efficiency. The player is then teleported outside the factory one week later.

Bar-ba-loot starvation

At the player's new location, a button can be pressed to teleport to a lower location, collecting an empty crate. Down there, the Thneed factory increased in size significantly with a distorted sign reading "Thneeds". The rest of the Truffula forest is now less verdant with more Minecraft:brown wool cover, less Truffula trees, and even some tuftless ones, as well as many suffering bar-ba-loots. The Lorax spawns in front of the office door complaining about the Once-ler's behavior. According to the story, the Lorax shows the Once-ler how his constant logging caused the bar-ba-loots to starve after finding no fruit to eat, sending them off and saddening the Once-ler. The player can follow the signs toward the newer factory, gathering more empty crates to place them in a cauldron, and press a button to enter the factory. Inside, the story continues as the Once-ler ignores the bar-ba-loots' hunger and focuses more on industrializing and shipping more Thneeds. The Minecraft:dropper in the factory dispenses Thneeds every once in a while, this time including orange and purple variants added to the ones in the previous puzzle. The player must toss the Thneeds in their respective cauldrons indicated by the Minecraft:carpet color underneath each, as well as four bridge parts for the uncolored cauldron. To reach some cauldrons, the player has to transform a bridge of floating buttons into slabs by flicking the levers in the right order according to the hint book. Another bridge is made up of invisible blocks only accessible by sneaking, starting at a sign reading in purple "Watch your step!". Bridge parts are contained in cyan shulker chests: three at corners and one on a pillar. After filling all six cauldrons, a note block with a button appears next to a shipping van, which sends the player outside the factory.

Pipehouse

The forest at this puzzle is now at the least of its greenery, with Truffula trees either lacking tufts or having them gray. The sky is entirely covered in smoke. To access the pipehouse, the player must follow signs then press a button in front of the cave, teleporting them to the top floor of the Once-ler's pipehouse. There, the Lorax complains to the Once-ler outside the door about the smog his factory caused, sending away the swomee-swans after the smog made them incapable of singing. The player can follow more signs leading down to a hole, which acts as the sole entrance to the lower pipehouse. Inside, the machines process four variants of slimy biproducts: the green Gluppity-Glupp, the orange Schloppity-Schlopp, the brown Muckity-Muck, and the white Gooppity-Goopp. The player can gather the biproducts by stepping on the pressure plate next to the respective producing machine. Higher up are cauldrons scattered across the pipehouse, placed in front of a structure consisting of a Minecraft:lodestone and a Minecraft:prismarine wall. The block above the wall can be topped with either a Minecraft:lightning rod or an Minecraft:end rod depending on the cauldron's fullness. Another cauldron is chained to a pipe next to each cauldron structure, with the dyed water indicating the type of biproduct to place. To fill a cauldron, the structure has to be topped with an end rod to be eligible for filling, and lightning rod cauldrons reject any biproduct, matching or not. After filling an end rod cauldron with the respective biproduct, the rod turns into a lightning rod. Upon completing the puzzle, a button spawns at the doorway, teleporting the player outside the pipehouse.

Super-Axe-Hacker

Outside, the player must follow signs until they reach the foot of a dingy cliff where the Super-Axe-Hacker stands. Along the way, the story follows as the Lorax shows the Once-ler how his slimy biproducts polluted the humming-fish's pond, causing him to send them off. To reach it, they have to climb up a ladder, and stepping on the pressure plate resumes the story as the Once-ler has enough of the Lorax's complaints. They then must use a Minecraft:bow to shoot six Minecraft:targets using three Minecraft:arrows provided per button press. Once all redstone lamps have been lit by the targets, the story continues as the last Truffula tree gets chopped down, and the player can press the button to exit the puzzle.

"Unless" platform

The player is teleported outside when they have to find the Lorax's platform and press a button. This reveals the rest of the story in which the Once-ler's family leaves the street after finding no more Truffula trees to process. The Lorax then heists himself through the smoke, leaving behind the platform, and the factories crumble into ruins. The Once-ler then finishes his story and tosses the last Truffula seed to the protagonist, hoping to revive the extinct Truffula trees. The player can return to the main island by pressing a button above an Minecraft:ochre froglight.

The Cat in the Hat

Template:Expand section The player spawns with Night Vision and Jump Boost on a platform made up of Minecraft:diorite and Minecraft:calcite blocks surrounded by Minecraft:cyan glazed terracotta then Minecraft:black wool during rainy weather. Behind them is a button on an ochre froglight leading them to the main island. The rest of the winding path consists of the first line of The Cat in the Hat built out of black wool and uncommonly Minecraft:white stained glass. The path floats on the illustration of the book's first page: a blue book holding a red house with a Truffula-like, drooping blue tree housing a startled bird. The story reads the line itself, describing the foul weather. Whenever the player falls, they respawn a few blocks behind their falling site.

Reaching the end of the path (another platform) at the balcony of the house teleports the player indoors, where the rain stops but the place is so huge that clouds form under the ceiling. The narrator and his sister Sally watch the window while many of their toys (including a bicycle) are scattered across the room. The player follows more paths shaped like lines from the book ending by checkpoints and the illustrations changing with the lines:

  1. The narrator and Sally are bored staying indoors.
  2. The children and their pet fish get startled by a "BUMP!" sound.
  3. The Cat in the Hat enters the house.
  4. He promises the children to have fun with him.
  5. He states that he will play games and tricks, reassuring that the children's mother would not mind.
