Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is the Template:El version of Minecraft:Minecraft for the Template:W, developed by Minecraft:4J Studios in conjunction with Minecraft:Mojang Studios and Template:W.<ref>"Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition"</ref> It was announced at the 2011 E3 conference by Notch and Microsoft, and was released alongside a free trial version on May 9, 2012 on Xbox Live Arcade. It was priced at US$19.99.
The Xbox 360 Edition's most recent feature update was the Minecraft:Update Aquatic.
Although the Xbox 360 console has been discontinued with all the other Minecraft:Legacy Console Editions, the Xbox 360 Edition continued to receive feature updates until the release of the Minecraft:Update Aquatic.<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref>
As of the shutdown of the Xbox 360 Marketplace on July 29, 2024, it is no longer possible to purchase this game digitally, though it can still be redownloaded if the game was previously purchased and physical copies still function normally.

Release
The game was showcased as a playable demo at Minecraft:MINECON 2011 and was deemed a 'work in progress'.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> 4J Studios confirmed that it had all the features of Template:El Beta 1.6.6 when released, and that it would later be updated. IGN also filmed a video at MINECON showing that the graphics look very similar to Template:El.<ref>Template:Link</ref>
Notch later announced the team developing the game would be Minecraft:4J Studios.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref><ref>Template:Tweet</ref> Minecraft:Daniel Kaplan tweeted about receiving an early copy of Xbox 360 Edition on September 7, 2011.<ref>Template:Citation – @Kappische, September 7, 2011</ref>
In October 2011, Microsoft said the release was planned for Spring 2012.<ref>"Minecraft for Xbox 360 pushed to spring 2012" – GameSpot, October 25, 2011</ref> On March 22, the official release date was posted by Template:W, the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, as May 9,<ref name="majornelson">"Announcing ‘Arcade Next'" – Major Nelson, March 22, 2012</ref> and a few days before the game release, HatFilms released Template:Ytl for Xbox 360 Edition.
The game was officially released on May 9, 2012, and set a new sales record on the Xbox Live Arcade, selling more copies in the first 24 hours of launch than any other previous title.<ref>"Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is the fastest selling game on Xbox Live Arcade" – Polygon, May 10, 2012</ref>
Versions
Retail disc
The retail disc version of Xbox 360 Edition was released by Microsoft on June 4, 2013 in the US, and later throughout June 2013 in other territories.<ref>Template:Citation</ref> It cost US$19.99, the same price as the Xbox Live Arcade version, and included a 48-hour Xbox Live Gold membership. The game otherwise was identical to the downloadable version. Features such as buying or downloading content on Xbox Live were the same for both versions and they both updated at the same time. It was released in regions or countries supported by Xbox Live. The base version of the game installed on disc was TU10.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>
The retail disc was originally planned to release on April 30, 2013 in the US and in early June 2013 in other regions,<ref>Template:Citation</ref> but it was delayed to June 4, 2013, in order to include the then-latest content.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>
Skin packs
4J Studios produced multiple skin packs as downloadable content. Each skin pack included about 45 skins to choose from. The first skin pack, Minecraft:Skin Pack 1, was released July 16, 2012 at a cost of US$1.99. The Skin Pack contained characters from Xbox 360 games, such as the Template:W from Template:W. On Xbox 360 Edition's birthday, the player was able to download special skin packs for free. There were many more skin packs, including a Minecraft:Festive Skin Pack, a Marvel Skin Pack, a Spider-Man Skin Pack and multiple Battle & Beasts Skin Packs. The skin packs also included various original designs created by 4J Studios. In total, there were 39 skin packs.
Marvel Skin Packs Bundle
The Marvel Skin Packs Bundle was released on November 30, 2015, and contained all of the Marvel skin packs:
- Minecraft:Marvel Avengers Skin Pack
- Minecraft:Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Skin Pack
- Minecraft:Marvel Spider-Man Skin Pack
The bundle was meant to be a discount for the Marvel skin packs. On December 22, 2015, the bundle was removed from the Xbox Games Store, thus being no longer available for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. This bundle costed US$6.99 and was available in the Xbox One and the Xbox 360.<ref name="store2">"Minecraft Marvel Skin Packs Bundle"</ref><ref name="tweet">Template:Tweet</ref> The Marvel skin packs from the bundle still transferred to Bedrock Edition, but they are not usable in online or LAN multiplayer.

Several Minecraft-themed items were released for purchase on the Xbox 360 Marketplace, all of which ranged from US$1/£0.64 to US$2.99/£1.92 in price. These include props and wearable items for the Xbox avatar, gamerpic packs (each containing 5 pictures), and premium themes for the dashboard. Some of these items were released even before the game itself.
