The Star Citizen Referral program rewards players that referrer new people to the StarCitizen:Star Citizen project. Anyone registering with a player's personal code will automatically get 5.000 StarCitizen:UEC, those prospects become a recruit once they purchase a StarCitizen:Game package and spend at least 40 USD on the StarCitizen:Pledge Store. At that point the player that referred them earns a Recruitment Point which progresses them towards the next referral reward.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
It was overhauled in July 2025 to make it more rewarding, more engaging, and easier to use, with a new interface, more frequent and interesting rewards, and fresh incentives for both new and veteran players. The UEC bonus got increased from 5000 to 50 000.<ref name=":0">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
How to get referral code
To find your Star Citizen referral code, sign in on the RSI website and on the top right corner go to your account.
Standard rewards
The standard rewards are always available and are a part of the ongoing referral initiative and also work together with time-limited rewards and/or special incentive events.
Legacy Ladder
The old Legacy ladder was replaced in on July 2nd 2025, however those who have referred at least one player who has purchased a game package before that date retain access to it. It can be viewed via the Account Settings, and new referrals count toward both the Legacy and new ladders—meaning players can earn rewards on both tracks at the same time.<ref name=":0" />
Time-limited rewards
These time limited rewards are only available in specific time frames to celebrate an event and incentive the player. The referred player must become a 'recruit' by buying their game package while the event is active, regardless of when they created their account.
Special Incentive Events
During these events a special reward is offered outside of the standard referral rewards. Most of the it is a ship or similar that will be given to both the new player and the player that referred them.
RSI 2017 Referral Contest
The RSI 2017 referral contest was announced on April 20st of 2017 and ran until August 8th of 2017, the goal of the contest was to get as many recruitment points as possible. The first person that would reach 2942 recruitment points during the contest period would receive a free trip to StarCitizen:Gamescom 2017. Next to that at the end of the contest the person that was at the top of the referral leaderboard received an StarCitizen:Idris-M frigate. The person that won the free Gamescom trip was unable to receive the StarCitizen:Idris-M reward.
Both of those rewards were based on lifetime recruitment points, which included all recruitment points from before the contest till the end of the contest.
This contest was also the 15th birthday of 'Sally', the star of the StarCitizen:Star Kitten lineup which is featured on the first two reward tiers.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>

Grace period
Along with the 2025 referral program change, CIG added a 24-hour grace period after the account creation for new players to add the referral code retroactively.<ref name=":0" />
