Recommended gear and setup
Inventory Preparation
As Imaru is a Dragonwilds:power level 5 entity, she can only be survived by players who are at least power level 5 or above.
As Imaru is a Dragonwilds:power level 5 boss monster of Dragonwilds:Fellhollow, she will be difficult to defeat without wearing power level 5 (first time) or higher gear (multiple encounters) and being prepared. It is also suggested that you gather enough Dragonwilds:sanguine urns, so you have enough Dragonwilds:health to survive. Imaru is immune to Dragonwilds:Poison, Dragonwilds:Burning, and Dragonwilds:Bleed effects, so it is advised to avoid using Dragonwilds:weapon poison, Dragonwilds:weapon barbs, Dragonwilds:fire arrows or fire rune damage.

Inventory
Note: the suggested items below are more for what it is recommended when you first encounter them in Dragonwilds:Withering Heights.
Players should have in their inventory the following:
* Good Dragonwilds:food with combination Dragonwilds:perks
* Infusion drinks
** Ferocious Infusions for Melee fighters
** Relentless Infusions for Ranged fighters
** Arcane Infusions for Magic fighters
* Healing supplies (ex: Large Wardstones and Lesser Healing Potions)
* Dragonwilds:Fire Runes and Dragonwilds:Air Runes to cast Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Fire and Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield, respectively
* Dragonwilds:Magical Focus if using magic for attacking Imaru
* Runes to cast Dragonwilds:Spectral Arrows if using 2-handed Ranged attacks
* Plenty of Law Runes for Dragonwilds:Lodestone teleportation to/from Imaru's Lair

Gear setup
Foods/Drinks
For your fight against Imaru, may it be first or multiple encounters, you'll want the following suggested items in your key bind hotbar slot or inventory:

Full Power level 5 armour:
* Dragonwilds:Undead delight which restores 180 health and grants the Dragonwilds:Sea Life perk, regenerating 3 health every second 1,200 second (20 minutes.)
** If you which not to grind for undead delight, Dragonwilds:eggs royale also grants the Dragonwilds:Sea Life perk and heals 120 health.
*** Dragonwilds:Pumpkin soup to grant the Dragonwilds:Soul Food perk, which regenerates 8 health every 8 seconds and heals 70 health. (Soul Food perk will not stack if it is from another food.)

Melee
* Any Dragonwilds:infusions that'll buff your combat style.
* Dragonwilds:Steel Equipment
** Infusions do not stack, so pick one reduces stamina on your combat style action, or dodging.
* Dragonwilds:Fallen Hoplite
*** Or you can drink the Dragonwilds:pumpkin spice infusion for the Soul Food perk, to have it and Sea Life active
* Dragonwilds:White Knight Armour

Range
Other Consumables and Ammunition
* Dragonwilds:Green Dragonhide Armour
If fighting in hard difficulty, or wanting to speed up the fight in normal difficulty, it is advised to have these items:
* Dragonwilds:Ranger Armour

Magic
* Dragonwilds:Whetstone enhances any melee weapon held by two points for ten minutes.
* Dragonwilds:Splitbark Equipment
** In addition, Dragonwilds:lesser Attack potion can be added for the Dragonwilds:Focused Strikes perk for ten minutes.
* Dragonwilds:Necromancer Equipment
* Dragonwilds:Magical Focus enhances staff and wand damage output from spell attacks by 15% for ten minutes
** In addition, Dragonwilds:Lesser Magic Potion can be added to increase the chance of landing critical hits with combat spells by 25% for ten minutes.

Jewelry
While ranged has yet to have any items to buff it, it is suggested to have Enchanted Steel Bolts for a 15% chance to heal 20% of the player's health when struck at an enemy.
* Dragonwilds:Salve Amulet (for the extra damage against Undead)
* Dragonwilds:Ring of Life (for saving you from dying without losing all inventory items)
* Dragonwilds:Amulet of Defence (For increased Armour Value)

Shield
Runes and Spells
Although Imaru has no resistance or weakness, she is immune to Dragonwilds:Burning effect, so it is recommended to use water, air and earth[sic] rune damage to do some better damage. Fire can still be used, but you will not be gaining benefits from the burn effect it would apply.

* Dragonwilds:Anti-Dragon Shield (Highly recommended)
You can also use spells to enhance your abilities against Velgar.
* Dragonwilds:Dragonblight Shield (Highly recommended)
* Dragonwilds:Dragoncurse Shield (Can only get after completing Dragonwilds:Withering Heights, but if you have it, it is highly recommended, as it is a power level 5 shield)
* Dragonwilds:Steel Shield
* Dragonwilds:Fallen Hoplite's Aspis

Power level 5 Dragonwilds:Weapons
* Dragonwilds:Surge would allow you to dodge attacks at a greater distance three times, costing no stamina.
* Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield for melee and crossbow users, as it blocks more variety of attacks, even unblockable ones.
* Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Air to increase the attack speed and damage of your equipped melee weapon if using melee.
* Dragonwilds:Spectral Arrows increases their damage done and is worth maintaining over the course of the fight if using Dragonwilds:Ranged.

Melee
Dragonwilds:Internal Alchemy is optional to have, as it is able to refresh active food and drinks buffs, but only if you're willing to spend about 4–5 seconds of casting time, which can leave you open for attacks.

* Dragonwilds:Steel Sword
Preset
* Dragonwilds:Shadow Sword (for increased damage against Spectral Enemies)
The present below is a suggested look on what you can have on your key bind and inventory for quicker access. Know that you do not need to copy this set up, you're free to use what you are comfortable with. The weapons you see are also based on their base damage or special abilities, but you are free to use a different weapon if you want.
* Dragonwilds:Steel Mace
* Dragonwilds:Steel Greataxe
* Dragonwilds:Zombie Axe (for Crush/Slash attacks)

Magic
Melee Setup
* Dragonwilds:Splitbark Staff
* The steel mace is suggested due to it's max base damage being one of the highest one handed weapon in its power level.
* Dragonwilds:Necromancer's Staff (for increased damage effect)
** If you have the Dragonwilds:zombie axe, you can use that to deal a higher base damage, as well as as doing a large amount of damage at random.
* The dragonblight shield can be used to protect against Imaru's fire breath.
* The amulet of defence and amulet of strength are both suggested for the following reason:
** The amulet of defence provides a increase in armour value, giving better protection against Imaru and her Thralls.
** The amulet of strength provides a 12.5% increase on all melee weapons
*** Alternatively, if you have the Dragonwilds:salve amulet, which provides a damage increase against undead creatures by 17%, it is suggested you use it.

Normal Mode: Strategy
Ranged Setup
Imaru in normal mode, Imaru can be soloed or done with more players in the party.

* The steel crossbow is suggested for the chance to use the dragonblight shield. If you time your reload properly, you can hit faster with the crossbow as well.
** While it is not listed, you are free to use the enchanted steel bolts for a 15% chance to heal 20% of the player's health when struck at an enemy.
* The willow shortbow and longbow are an optional suggestion for those who either wants a faster fire rate or load the arrow enough for a further and higher damage.
** If you have the Dragonwilds:undead ranger's bow, you can use that for increased damage, but with reduced durability.

* The amulet of defence and amulet of accuracy are both suggested for the following reason:
** The amulet of defence provides a increase in armour value, giving better protection against Imaru and her Thralls.
** The amulet of accuracy provides a increase in critical damage and weak spot damage,
*** Alternatively, if you have the salve amulet, which provides a damage increase against undead creatures by 17%, it is suggested you use it.

Magic Setup
* Magic does not have much aside from the Dragonwilds:necromancer's staff which grants a x5.9 rune damage, but reduced durability. So if you prefer it over the splitbark staff, feel free to swap it out.
* The amulet of defence and amulet of magic are both suggested for the following reason:
** The amulet of defence provides a increase in armour value, giving better protection against Imaru and her Thralls.
** The amulet of magic provides a 12.5% increase on magic damage
*** Alternatively, if you have the salve amulet, which provides a damage increase against undead creatures by 17%, it is suggested you use it.

Melee Setup
* The zombie axe is suggested as the weapon deals a higher base damage than the steel mace, and does a large amount of damage at random.
** The shadow sword is suggested to combat against Imaru's spectral form, as the sword provides a 25% additional damage against spirits.
* The dragonblight shield can be used to protect against Imaru's fire breath.
* The salve amulet is suggested as it provides a 17% increased damage on undead creatures.
** You can avoid the salve and either use the Dragonwilds:ring of life to teleport you when you HP reaches 10% or the amulet of defence.
* The whetstone is suggested for this run due to the increased damage buff.

Ranged Setup
* The steel crossbow is suggested for the chance to use the dragonblight shield. If you time your reload properly, you can hit faster with the crossbow as well.
** Enchanted steel bolts is suggested for a 15% chance to heal 20% of the player's health when struck at an enemy.
*** Considering Imaru is immune to Poison, Burning, and Bleed, this is the only ammunition you will want.
* The undead ranger's bow is suggested for the increased damage, but decreased durability.
** Steel arrows are the only ammunition you can use due to Imaru's immunity.
* The salve amulet is suggested as it provides a 17% increased damage on undead creatures.
** You can avoid the salve and either use the Dragonwilds:ring of life to teleport you when you HP reaches 10% or the amulet of defence.

Imaru's main attacks are energy bolts that launches towards you when flying, fire-breathing sweeps when she is on the platform, and foot stomps which can launch an rot, earth spike like attack towards the player, which fills up the Dragonwilds:Wither status.
Magic Setup
Phase 1
* The Dragonwilds:necromancer's staff is suggested as it grants a x5.9 rune damage, but reduced durability.
Before entering Imaru's tower, drink a Infusion. Once you enter Imaru's tower, do the following:
* The salve amulet is suggested as it provides a 17% increased damage on undead creatures.
** You can avoid the salve and either use the Dragonwilds:ring of life to teleport you when you HP reaches 10% or the amulet of defence.
** Dragonwilds:Abraxus ring Can be used as a replacement to the salve amulet if you want to reduce the cost of runes spells, such as Surge, Enchant Weapon: Air.
* The magical focus is suggested for this run due to the increased damage buff.
If you have other regions unlocked and visited, using their versions of armours and weapons is advised to speed up the kill. Using Dragonwilds:Ascension Core<nowiki/>s to upgrade any vestige armor or weapon is suggested also to use what you gathered from other regions if they are better.

* Melee, immediately cast Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Fire on your main melee weapon and cast the Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield spell. Imaru will appear on the platform within five seconds, so be prepared to run towards Imaru's to avoid any of her ground spike attacks.
Normal Mode: Strategy
With Imaru in normal mode, Imaru can be soloed or done with more players in the party.

* Magic, use magical focus, you can also cast Dragonwilds:Surge if you want to avoid her attacks easier
Imaru's main attacks are energy bolts that launch towards you when flying, fire-breathing sweeps when she is on the platform, and foot stomps, which can launch a rot, earth spike-like attack towards the player, which fills up the Dragonwilds:Wither status.

Once Imaru starts attacking, avoid as much as you can and start aiming to do damage on her. For critical damages, try aiming these attack towards her heart, which will be hard to hit unless using melee. You will be able to dodge most of her attacks, such as her foot stomp rot attack, which will aim directly at you (unless you are under her belly). Her next attack is a fire-breathing spell that sweeps from the player's right to left (or vice versa in her next iterations). This can be avoided by staying under her belly. Once she has performed both attacks, she will fly away and reappear after five seconds. Be sure to check your vitals and see if you need to replenish your lifeward and/or health.

Her next attack is spitting three rot bolts that will build up wither effect whilst in the air, so if you're using melee, you will need to wait till she it out of this attack style. If using Range or Magic, it is advised to attack her only twice to have time to dodge from the rot bolt attacks. Make sure you time your dodge, they are like missals and will still hit if you dodge to early.

Imaru will perform the same mechanics as in the rest of the fight by flying in the air for about 2-3 seconds and then slamming onto the platform, aiming her rot spikes at the player. Be sure to dodge these attacks (as well as the fire sweeping attack) whilst running towards her belly. Spam click your main (or special) attack onto her belly again, until she flies back up and hides in the wither pool.

Phase 2
Imaru will reappear again, but will land in the centre as a spectral form and be immune to all damage. She will charge up an attack that can do a ton of damage, possibly killing you in one hit, or taking half of your health. In order to stop her, you must enter Dragonwilds:Soul Rifting to do enough damage. Be aware Rotsworn Thralls will appear to attack you. Once she falls to the ground, quickly head over to a Dragonwilds:Purification Pool before time runs out, if time is not short, get rid of the thralls. If times it right, Imaru should still be on the ground, quickly attack her. It is advised that you aim for exposed chest.

Phase 3
Phase 3
Once Imaru's health is below 50%, in five seconds she will land in the middle of the platform, immediately aiming her rot spikes at the player and stand on all two. She will then perform a combination of her rot spikes and fire sweep, and these fire sweeps will leave random withered marks on the platform. Be sure to avoid these withered marks by staying close to her. If you become withered, simply aim for a pool before time runs out. She will fly in the air and breath fire around the arena, stay in the centre until she stop, and be ready to avoid her slam and rot spike. During the end of Phase 3, she will summon explosive rot rocks near you, be sure to avoid them.

Once Imaru is in her spectral version again, become withered, and start attacking her until you encounter more Rotsworn enemies. Imaru's hard mode can be done soloed, but it is suggested to do it with others if you are having difficulties.

In this section, we will describe how to fight Imaru in Hard mode.
She will summon thralls earlier, and most mechanics will be done earlier as well. While it is possible to do it alone, it may be easier with a group of 2 or more.

This page is currently under construction to update it in meeting the Dragonwilds:Ascension Core upgrades and the new combat system when 1.0 is released

This is a strategy guide page on defeating Dragonwilds:Imaru. Depending on your world's difficulty setting, please refer to the relevant strategy section.

Inventory Preparation

Note: the suggested items below are more for what it is recommended when you first encounter them in Dragonwilds:Withering Heights.

Foods/Drinks

For your fight against Imaru, may it be first or multiple encounters, you'll want the following suggested items in your key bind hotbar slot or inventory:

Other Consumables and Ammunition

If fighting in hard difficulty, or wanting to speed up the fight in normal difficulty, it is advised to have these items:

While ranged has yet to have any items to buff it, it is suggested to have Enchanted Steel Bolts for a 15% chance to heal 20% of the player's health when struck at an enemy.

You can also use spells to enhance your abilities against Velgar.

Dragonwilds:Internal Alchemy is optional to have, as it is able to refresh active food and drinks buffs, but only if you're willing to spend about 4–5 seconds of casting time, which can leave you open for attacks.

Preset

The present below is a suggested look on what you can have on your key bind and inventory for quicker access. Know that you do not need to copy this set up, you're free to use what you are comfortable with. The weapons you see are also based on their base damage or special abilities, but you are free to use a different weapon if you want.

 • The steel mace is suggested due to it's max base damage being one of the highest one handed weapon in its power level.

Normal Mode: Strategy

With Imaru in normal mode, Imaru can be soloed or done with more players in the party.

Imaru's main attacks are energy bolts that launch towards you when flying, fire-breathing sweeps when she is on the platform, and foot stomps, which can launch a rot, earth spike-like attack towards the player, which fills up the Dragonwilds:Wither status.

Phase 1

Once Imaru starts attacking, avoid as much as you can and start aiming to do damage to her. For critical damages, try aiming these attacks towards her heart, which will be hard to hit unless using melee.

Her next attack is spitting three rot bolts that will build up Wither effect whilst in the air, so if you're using melee, you will need to wait till she is out of this attack style. If using ranged or magic, it is advised to attack her only twice to have time to dodge the rot bolt attacks. Make sure you time your dodge; they are like missiles and will still hit if you dodge too early.

Imaru will use the same mechanics as in the rest of the fight, flying for about 2–3 seconds and then slamming onto the platform, aiming her rot spikes at the player.

Be aware Dragonwilds:rotsworn thralls will appear to attack you. Once she falls to the ground, quickly head over to a Dragonwilds:Purification Pool before time runs out. If time is not short, get rid of the thralls. If it's the right time, Imaru should still be on the ground; quickly attack her. It is advised that you aim for an exposed chest.

Phase 3

Once Imaru's health is below 50%, in five seconds, she will land in the middle of the platform, immediately aiming her rot spikes at the player and standing on both. She will then perform a combination of her rot spikes and fire sweep, and these fire sweeps will leave random withered marks on the platform. Be sure to avoid these withered marks by staying close to her. If you become withered, simply aim for a pool before time runs out. She will fly in the air and breathe fire around the arena, stay in the centre until she stops, and be ready to avoid her slam and rot spike. During the end of Phase 3, she will summon explosive rot rocks near you, be sure to avoid them.

Once Imaru is in her spectral version again, become withered, and start attacking her until you encounter more rotsworn enemies. Kill these enemies quickly, as you will also have 40 seconds to kill the rotsworn enemies, knock Imaru out of her spectral version, and cleanse yourself with the Purification Pool. After this phase ends, she will continue until the final phase. During these mechanics, you can replenish your health, hunger, thirst or life if needed.

Phase 4

She will continue to repeat all of her mechanics until she is below 10% of her health, and she will enter her spectral form for the last time. Become withered, kill the rotsworn enemies first, and then attack her spectral version until she is knocked out. Cleanse yourself with the Purification Pools again (all under 40 seconds), and attack her heart once more. Once she is dead, her head will automatically spawn in your quest inventory. If you kill Imaru whilst you are withered, you will automatically go back to normal, and nearby rotsworn enemies will die in the process.

Hard Mode: Strategy

Imaru's hard mode can be done soloed, but it is suggested to do it with others if you are having difficulties.

She will summon thralls earlier, and most mechanics will be done earlier as well. While it is possible to do it alone, it may be easier with a group of 2 or more.

Depending on your style of combat, it is recommended that you do the following during the short grace period when entering the boss instance:

Her phases are just like normal mode, but the main difference is that her mechanics are activated earlier, and her thralls appear earlier as well.
