The frozen ocean is an icy variant of Minecraft:oceans covered by icebergs. The water's surface is partially covered with Minecraft:ice, where Minecraft:snowfall may occur and Minecraft:polar bears can spawn.
Generation
Frozen oceans generate as shallow ocean biomes in the frozen temperature zones, near Minecraft:snowy plains, Minecraft:snowy taigas, regular Minecraft:taigas, and Minecraft:ice spikes. They may be separated from land biomes by Minecraft:snowy beaches, non-frozen Minecraft:stony shores, and Minecraft:frozen rivers, though they may also border land biomes directly. They can generate close to Minecraft:mountains with Minecraft:groves and Minecraft:snowy slopes forming tall oceanic cliffs.
Frozen oceans border their deep variant far from land, and Minecraft:cold oceans near higher temperatures.
Description
Unlike other oceans, frozen oceans do not have a Minecraft:gravel seabed and directly expose Minecraft:stone and variants.Template:Only Neither seagrass nor kelp generates on the seafloor, leaving it entirely barren. The surface is widely covered with Minecraft:ice, while large Minecraft:icebergs made of Minecraft:snow blocks, Minecraft:packed ice and a bit of Minecraft:blue ice frequently generate.
Minecraft:Shipwrecks and Minecraft:cold ocean ruins generate here, often inside icebergs. Occasional islands in frozen oceans are also covered with stone, however, some patches of Minecraft:grass blocks generate in between.
Fewer mobs spawn here than in any other ocean variant, only Minecraft:cod and Minecraft:salmon.Template:Only On the surface, however, Minecraft:polar bears and Minecraft:rabbits may also spawn Template:In, while some Minecraft:skeletons are replaced by Minecraft:strays.
Frozen oceans have varying Minecraft:temperatures across their landscapes. Colder patches generate Minecraft:snowfall and freeze water on any altitude, while some patches only allow snowfall above Y=120±8, creating rainfall and unfrozen water on the ocean's surface.
With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, frozen oceans use default environmental settings with a strong cold color grading, making the biome appear colder blue. They use cold sunlight, which is slightly stronger at dusk and dawn.
