Template:Dungeons hatnote Template:For Template:Infobox enchantment Looting is an Minecraft:enchantment applied to Minecraft:swords and Minecraft:spears that gives a chance to receive more item drops from certain mobs.
Obtaining
Looting can be obtained from Minecraft:enchanting tables, drops from mobs that have spawned in a Minecraft:raid,Template:Only books obtained by Minecraft:fishing, Minecraft:monster room chests, librarian Minecraft:villagers, and non-village Minecraft:structure loot.
Usage
Looting increases the maximum number of items for most common drops by 1 per level. Looting also increases the chance of Minecraft:rare drops and equipment drops by 1 percentage point per level.
Looting affects any kill that happens while holding the enchanted item in the main hand, not just any kill by the enchanted item.<ref>Template:Bug</ref> For example, a player can fire a projectile then switch to the enchanted item before the projectile reaches the target to get the Looting effect, hold the enchanted item while killing a mob with a ghast fireball, or fire a projectile from the off-handTemplate:Only while holding the enchanted item in the main hand. This allows Looting to work on Minecraft:arrows or thrown Minecraft:tridents, as long as the player is holding the Looting item when the arrow or trident lands.
Looting applies to mobs killed with a Minecraft:sweep attack.Template:Only Spear charge attacks done using a spear in the offhandTemplate:Only do not apply Looting.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Using Minecraft:commands to get higher levels than III works as expected, adding higher numbers with a weight of 1. A mob always drops its naturally-spawned equipment at Looting level 92.
Looting has no effect on certain sources:
- Kills by tamed Minecraft:wolves are not affected by this enchantment, even if the target is struck first.
- Mobs with no drops, such as Minecraft:bats, Minecraft:bees, or Minecraft:endermites, are not affected by this enchantment.
- Minecraft:Withers, Minecraft:iron golems,<ref name="MC-200707">Template:Bug</ref> Minecraft:cats<ref name="MC-200707"/> and Minecraft:snow golems are not affected by this enchantment.
- Looting does not increase the amount of fish dropped by Minecraft:fish mobs.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Minecraft:Guardians and elder guardians are not considered fish mobs, and Looting does cause them to drop more fish.
- Template:IN, Looting does not increase the drop of Minecraft:bamboo from Minecraft:pandas.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- It does not affect the amount of Minecraft:wool dropped by Minecraft:sheep.
- It does not affect Minecraft:sponges or Minecraft:tide armor trims dropped by Minecraft:elder guardians.
- It does not affect Minecraft:totems of undying dropped by Minecraft:evokers.
- It does not affect the amount of Minecraft:skulls dropped by Minecraft:wither skeletons, but does increase the chance for them to drop one.
- It does not affect the amount of Minecraft:sculk catalysts dropped by Minecraft:wardens.
- Mobs killed by fire damage from the Minecraft:Fire Aspect enchantment will not apply Looting to the resulting drops.
Specific cases
If Looting is applied to a Minecraft:bow by use of Minecraft:commands or an Minecraft:anvil in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon's Minecraft:arrows. If Looting is applied to a Minecraft:crossbow by use of Minecraft:commands or an Minecraft:anvil in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon's arrows but not its Minecraft:firework rockets. If Looting is applied to a Minecraft:trident by use of Minecraft:commands or an Minecraft:anvil in Creative, the enchantment applies to mobs killed by the weapon melee attack, but not its ranged attack.
