Minecraft:Zombies, Minecraft:husks, skeletons, strays, and bogged have a small chance to spawn wearing armor, which may include a leather cap. There is a 8.5% chance (9.5% with Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop the cap they're wearing upon death. The dropped cap is usually badly damaged, and may be enchanted with enchantment levels 5-19.

Armor trimming
It is possible to upgrade armor with trims. This requires a smithing template, a leather cap, and an ingot or crystal (iron ingot, copper ingot, gold ingot, netherite ingot, Minecraft:emerald, redstone dust, lapis lazuli, amethyst shard, nether quartz, Minecraft:diamond, or resin brick).
These trims have no effect on the gameplay or strength of the armor. Template:Smithing
Dyeing
Leather caps can be dyed by combining it with Minecraft:dye(s) through crafting Template:In, or by Template:Control it on a Minecraft:cauldron containing dyed Minecraft:water Template:In. Template:Control dyed leather caps on a cauldron containing ordinary water removes any dye from it.
