Minecraft:Frostbite
More actions
Template:Redirect Template:For Template:In development Template:Wip Template:Infobox entity A frostbite is a variant of the Minecraft:zombie that spawns in cold Minecraft:biomes. Its melee attacks apply the Minecraft:Freezing effect to the target, and it can sometimes spawn holding Minecraft:ice balls, which are thrown as a ranged attack.
Spawning
Natural spawning
Frostbites spawn in some snowy biomes, such as Minecraft:ice spikes and Minecraft:ice caves. Template:Mob spawn table
Conversion
Minecraft:Zombies and Minecraft:husksTemplate:OnlyTemplate:Verify will transform into frostbites when submerged inside powder snow for 22 seconds and will retain equipped Minecraft:tools and Minecraft:armor. Like husks, frostbites will transform into zombies when submerged inside water for 30 seconds. If the resulting zombie remains submerged in water, it can subsequently transform into a Minecraft:drowned, although drowned cannot turn back into frostbites.
Unlike skeletons converting to strays, zombies and husks that are transforming in powder snow take damage before their transformation.

Behavior
Frostbites can always walk on top of Minecraft:powder snow without wearing Minecraft:leather boots.
Attacking
A frostbite primarily uses its melee attack, which will apply the Minecraft:Freezing effect for 3 seconds to their target. Unlike Minecraft:husks, they can apply this effect while holding a weapon.
They sometimes spawn holding Minecraft:ice balls and can throw them as a ranged attack. They throw ice balls at range while moving toward their target within 16 blocks, and switch to melee attacks when they get within 2 blocks with the playerTemplate:More information needed Frostbites also throw ice balls if they pick up an ice ball Minecraft:item off the ground.
Frostbites attack Minecraft:players, Minecraft:villagers, Minecraft:wandering traders, Minecraft:iron golems, Minecraft:snow golems, and baby Minecraft:turtles.
Mob type
Being an Minecraft:undead mob, they are:
- damaged by the status effect Minecraft:Instant Health and healed by the status effect Minecraft:Instant Damage.
- unaffected by the status effects Minecraft:Regeneration and Minecraft:Poison.
- ignored by the Minecraft:wither.
- affected by the Minecraft:Smite enchantment.
- a threat to armadillos, causing them to hide in their shell.
As they are undead and do not grow up, golden dandelions do not work on baby frostbites.
Picking up items
Template:Main Like zombies, some frostbites spawn with the ability to pick up dropped Minecraft:items from the ground. Template:IN, they can only pick up Minecraft:ice balls, Minecraft:swords, Minecraft:armor, and Minecraft:carved pumpkins. Template:IN, they actively search for and walk toward dropped items.
If the picked up item is armor, the frostbite equips the armor into its respective armor slot. Carved pumpkins are worn on their heads.
If a frostbite encounters another similar item, it may drop the previous item in favor of the new one if:
- Both items are armor/weapons and the new item is better damage-wise (reduces higher damage for armor, or inflicts more damage for weapons) without considering enchantments,
- Both items are armor/weapons with the same damage reduction/infliction, the new item has NBT tags while the old does notTemplate:Only or the new item is less damaged than the old item
Items dropped by mobs in exchange for another cannot be picked up by players or mobs for 10 game ticks (0.5 seconds, barring lag), but can be picked up by Minecraft:hoppers.
A frostbite equipped with a picked-up Minecraft:item becomes persistent and does not Minecraft:despawn, similar to being named.
Frostbites have a higher chance of being able to pick up items in Hard Minecraft:difficulty.
Picked-up items do not cause the frostbite to drop more experience when killed.
Powder Snow
Frostbites do not sink in or take damage from Minecraft:powder snow, and their jump height and speed is unimpeded by it. They can ascend through multiple layers of powdered snow like Minecraft:scaffolding.
Mounting
Template:Exclusive Template:IN, 15% of naturally spawned baby frostbites can start riding a mob and become a Minecraft:jockey when it tries attacking. A jockey mob ridden by a baby frostbite will adapt to the speed of its rider. A baby frostbite can ride:Template:Columns-list

Trivia
- The frostbite could be considered a successor to the Template:MCD from Template:MCD, another ice-covered zombie variant which notably also attacks with thrown ice projectiles in addition to the standard melee attacks. Both are very similar in appearance as well, with the only significant difference being that the frostbite uses an original clothing design, whereas the frozen zombie simply reuses the clothes of the normal zombie.
- The frostbite's texture even includes the palette, positioned identically to the palette in the frozen zombie's texture from Minecraft Dungeons.
