This guide is a simplified overview of all changes in the Nether Update (Template:BE 1.16.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with the Buzzy Bees update (Bedrock Edition 1.14.x releases).

Mobs

New

Hoglins	Template:Animate	Bastion remnant Crimson forest	Template:Drop and Template:Drop	Hoglins will run if in contact with warped fungi or a Nether Portal. Hoglins will turn into zoglins if in the Minecraft:Overworld or Minecraft:the End after 15 seconds. Hoglins can be bred with crimson fungi. Hoglins are hostile towards the player. Baby Hoglins are also hostile but will retreat if attacked.
Minecraft:Piglin	Template:Animate	Bastion remnant Crimson forest Nether wastes	8.5% chance to drop their naturally-spawned equipment. Which can be a golden sword, a Minecraft:crossbow, or random golden armor.	Adult piglins are hostile and babies are passive. Adult piglins can be bartered with using gold ingots. Piglins will run from placed soul fire and soul fire items. Piglins will not immediately attack the player if they're wearing at least one piece of golden armor. Piglins will immediately attack the player if they open a Minecraft:chest, mine nether gold ore, mine Minecraft:Gilded Blackstone, or break any gold blocks nearby, despite if the player is wearing a piece of golden armor or not. Piglins will turn into zombified piglins if in the Minecraft:Overworld or Minecraft:the End after 15 seconds. Piglins will occasionally hunt adult hoglins, and baby piglins will ride baby hoglins. Piglins will sometimes dance after a successful hunt. If a Piglin is attacked all other adult piglins nearby will become aggressive towards the attacker.
Piglin brute	File:Piglin Brute.png	Bastion remnant	8.5% chance to drop their held item (a Template:ItemLink with random durability).	Piglin brutes are tougher and stronger variants of piglins. Piglin brutes are always hostile unlike other Minecraft:Piglins. Piglin brutes attack the player even when they're wearing golden armor. Piglin brutes do not run away from placed soul fire and soul fire items. Piglin brutes will occasionally join other Minecraft:Piglins to hunt adult hoglins, but will never engage themselves. Piglin brutes will turn into zombified piglins if in the Minecraft:Overworld or Minecraft:the End after 15 seconds.
Strider	Template:Animate	Nether lava lakes		Striders can walk on top of the surface of Minecraft:lava. Striders can be Minecraft:saddled, and can be controlled with warped fungi on a stick. Striders can spawn with a zombified piglin or a baby strider riding on them. Striders are attracted by and can be bred with warped fungi. Striders shiver and turn purple outside of lava, which makes them move slower. Striders are damaged by rain and Minecraft:water. Striders can walk on top of other mobs as if they were solid blocks.
Zoglin	File:Zoglin BE.png	None	Template:Drop	Zoglins and baby zoglins attack all nearby mobs and players except for creepers and other zoglins. Zoglins are incapable of breeding. Unlike baby hoglins, zoglins do not play with baby piglins. Piglins will flee from zoglins if unengaged in combat. Zoglins do not flee from warped fungi.

Changed

Spawning		Passive mobs now spawn on blocks they are supposed to. Improved spawn rates of iron golems by 10 times. Despawn Rules have been changed to closely match Java Despawn Rules.
Minecraft:Enderman	File:Enderman.png	Endermen now commonly spawn in the warped forest. Endermen can now pick up Minecraft:nylium, crimson roots, warped roots, and Nether fungi variants. Endermen can no longer pick up Minecraft:netherrack.
Ghast	File:Ghast.gif	Ghasts' sounds are now heard at a shorter range. Ghasts now commonly spawn in the soul sand valley, as well as in the nether wastes and basalt deltas. Ghasts now only attack the player if they are on the same Y-level as them.
Minecraft:Wither	File:Wither.png	Withers can now be summoned using soul soil in the base.
Minecraft:Wolf		Wolves can now spawn in forests and giant tree taigas.
Zombie pigman	Template:Animate	Zombie pigmen now spawn in the crimson forests. Zombie pigmen are renamed to "zombified piglin" and given a new model and texture.
Minecraft:Villager	Template:Animate	Villagers that are cured now offer trading discounts.

Blocks

New

Minecraft:Allow	File:Allow BE1.png	Allow blocks can only be obtained via commands under the "Education Edition" toggle.	Allow blocks are unbreakable in Survival or Adventure mode.	Allow blocks allow players, even in Adventure mode, to build or break all block on top of it.
Ancient debris	File:Ancient Debris.png	Ancient debris can be found in the Nether, but are extremely rare. Never generates exposed to air, and is most common between levels 8-22. Minecraft:Blackstone	File:Blackstone.png	Blackstone can be found in large patches in basalt deltas. Blackstone can be found on all nether biomes at the lava level. Crimson and warped fungus	Template:Animate	Crimson fungi generate in crimson forests and warped fungi in warped forests. However, crimson fungi can generate less commonly in warped forests and vice versa.	Nether fungi can be mined with any tool or hand.	Nether fungi can be used as a decorative block. Crimson fungi can be used to breed hoglins, while warped fungi will repel them. Warped fungi can be used to breed striders. Fungi can be grown into huge fungi when bonemeal is used on it.
Crimson and warped nylium	Template:Animate	Crimson nylium generates in crimson forests and warped nylium in warped forests.	Nylium can be mined with any pickaxe.	Crimson or warped fungi will grow on their respective nylium variants.
Crimson and warped planks	Template:Animate		Crimson and warped planks can be broken with any tool as well as by hand, with Minecraft:axes being the fastest way to break them.	Crimson and warped planks can be used to craft respective Minecraft:slabs, stairs, Minecraft:fences, fence gates, pressure plates, Minecraft:buttons, Minecraft:doors, Minecraft:trapdoors, Minecraft:signs, and Minecraft:sticks. Crimson and warped planks do not burn and cannot be used as fuel in a Minecraft:furnace.
Crimson roots, warped roots and nether sprouts	Template:Animate	Crimson roots, warped roots and nether sprouts can be found in crimson or warped forests	Crimson roots, warped roots, and nether sprouts can be mined with any tool or hand. Crimson and warped stem	Template:Animate	Stems comprise the trunks of huge fungi. Lodestones can be used in any dimension, allowing compasses to be functional in Minecraft:the Nether and Minecraft:the End.
Nether gold ore	File:Nether Gold Ore JE2 BE1.png	Nether gold ore can be found at any height in Minecraft:the Nether.	Nether gold ore can be mined with any Minecraft:pickaxe.	Nether gold ore drops gold nuggets. Nether gold ore is affected by the Fortune enchantment. Nether gold ore requires Minecraft:Silk Touch to be obtained as an item.
Polished basalt	File:Polished Basalt.png		Polished basalt can be mined with any Minecraft:pickaxe.	Polished basalt can be used as a decorative block.
Polished blackstone	Template:Animate		Polished blackstone can be mined with any Minecraft:pickaxe.	Polished blackstone can be used as a decorative block. Polished blackstone can be made into Minecraft:slabs, stairs and Minecraft:wall variations.
Polished blackstone bricks	Template:Animate		Polished blackstone bricks can be mined with any Minecraft:pickaxe.	Polished blackstone bricks can be used as a decorative block. Polished blackstone bricks can be made into Minecraft:slabs, stairs and Minecraft:wall variations. Polished blackstones can be smelted in a Minecraft:furnace to create cracked polished blackstone bricks.

Respawn anchor	Template:Animate		Respawn anchors can be mined with a diamond or netherite Minecraft:pickaxe.	The player can set their spawn point in Minecraft:the Nether by clicking the respawn anchor in Minecraft:the Nether. Respawn anchors can only have four charges set at once, and one is used up for every respawn. Respawn anchors can be recharged with Minecraft:glowstone. Respawn anchors emit 4 different light levels depending on what charge it is at. Respawn anchors explode if used in the Minecraft:Overworld or End. Respawn anchors can be charged with a Minecraft:dispenser.
Minecraft:Shroomlight	File:Shroomlight JE1 BE1.png	Shroomlights can be found on huge fungi in crimson forests and warped forests.	Shroomlights can be mined with any tool, but Minecraft:hoes are the most efficient.	Shroomlights emits a light level of 15, similarly to Minecraft:glowstone.
Soul campfire	File:Soul Campfire.gif		Soul campfires can be broken with any tool as well as by hand, with Minecraft:axes being the fastest way to break them.	Soul campfires emit a light level of 10, instead of 15 by the regular one. Soul campfires have a blue flame instead of orange. Soul campfires have all behaviors of the normal Minecraft:campfire. Soul campfires repel Minecraft:piglins.
Soul fire	File:Soul Fire BE.gif	Soul fire generates naturally in the soul sand valley biome in Minecraft:the Nether. Fire lit on soul sand or soul soil is soul fire regardless of dimension.	Soul fire can't be obtained but can be extinguished by clicking on it.	Soul fire deals damage at a rate of 2 per second as opposed to the 1 per second of regular fire. Soul fire repels Minecraft:piglins.
Soul lantern	File:Soul Lantern.png	Soul lanterns are crafted similarly to a normal lantern, using a soul torch instead of a normal torch.	Soul lanterns can be mined with any Minecraft:pickaxe.	Soul lanterns give off a light level of 10. Soul lanterns repel Minecraft:piglins.
Soul soil	File:Soul Soil JE1 BE1.png	Soul soil generates in the soul sand valley, alongside conventional soul sand.	Soul soil can be broken with any tool as well as by hand, with Minecraft:shovels being the fastest way to break them.	Fire lit on soul soil appears as soul fire. The player does not sink and is not slowed when walking on soul soil. Soul soil can be used to summon the Minecraft:wither.
Soul torch	File:Soul Torch BE1.png		Soul torches can be broken instantly with any tool as well as by hand.	Soul torches give off a light level of 10. Soul torches repel Minecraft:piglins.
Minecraft:Chain	File:Chain.png		Pickaxe	Can be used decoratively. Can be used to suspend Minecraft:bells and both types of Minecraft:lanterns.
Minecraft:Target	File:Target.png		Targets can be broken with any tool as well as by hand, with Minecraft:hoes being the fastest way to break them.	Targets emit a Minecraft:redstone signal for 1 second when hit with most projectiles. The closer a projectile hits to the center, the stronger the signal it gives off.
Twisting vines	File:Twisting Vines Plant JE1.png	Twisting vines generate in the warped forest biome. Twisting vines grow upward.	Twisting vines can be broken instantly with any tool as well as by hand.	Twisting vines can be used as a decorative block. Twisting vines can be climbed like Minecraft:vines. In addition, if warped vines are fallen on the player does not take fall damage. Twisting vines can be grown taller using bone meal.
Warped wart block	File:Warped Wart Block JE1 BE1.png	Warped wart blocks generate as a part of huge warped fungi.	Warped wart blocks can be broken with any tool as well as by hand, with Minecraft:hoes being the fastest way to break them.	Warped wart blocks can be used as a decorative block.
Weeping vines	File:Weeping Vines Plant BE.png	Weeping vines generate in the crimson forest biome.	Weeping vines can be broken instantly with any tool as well as by hand.	Weeping vines are placed on the bottom of a block and grows downward. Weeping vines can be used as a decorative block. Weeping vines can be climbed like Minecraft:vines. Weeping vines can be grown using bone meal.

Minecraft:Beacon	File:Beacon.png	The beam color can now be a combination of several different stained Minecraft:glass colors. Beacons can now have a base composed of blocks of netherite. Beacons can now use netherite ingots as a fuel.
Bone block	Template:Animate	Bone blocks now generate as part of nether fossils in soul sand valleys. Bone blocks now have their own sound, instead of using the Minecraft:stone sound.
Minecraft:Conduit	File:Conduit.png	Conduits now give conduit power to nearby players in rain.
Minecraft:Dispenser	File:Dispenser.png	Crafting dispensers no longer require a fully repaired Minecraft:bow.
Minecraft:Pumpkin, jack o'lantern, and fence gate	Template:Animate	Pumpkins, jack o'lanterns, and fence gates can now be placed without supporting blocks underneath.
Flower pot	File:Flower Pot JE3.png	Potted plants can now be removed from the pot by tapping/clicking on it.
Jigsaw block	File:Jigsaw Block.png	Jigsaw block's texture is changed. Jigsaw blocks can now be obtained by Template:Cmd command.
Nether wart block	File:Nether Wart Block JE2 BE2.png	Nether wart blocks now generates as a part of huge crimson fungi.
Minecraft:Netherrack	File:Netherrack JE4 BE2.png	Using bone meal on netherrack adjacent to Minecraft:nylium converts it into nylium. If two nylium blocks of different types are present, it chooses the type at random based on how many Minecraft:blocks of each type are around it.
Oak and birch Minecraft:sapling	Template:Animate	Oak and birch saplings planted within 2 blocks of a flower on the same Y-level have a 5% chance of the grown tree having a bee nest.
Minecraft:Observer	File:Observer.png	Observers no longer emit a Minecraft:redstone signal when placed.
Shulker box	Template:Animate	Shulker boxes can now be undyed in a Minecraft:cauldron.
Smithing table	File:Smithing Table.png	Smithing tables now have a GUI use. Smithing tables can now be used to upgrade diamond gear to netherite
Soul sand	File:Soul Sand.png	Soul sand now generates in soul sand valley biomes at the lava level of the lava ocean.
Spruce sapling	File:Spruce Sapling.png	Large spruce trees now transform nearby grass blocks into Minecraft:podzol when they grow.
Structure block	File:Structure Block.png	Added detect button for save mode. Structure block functionality is no longer only available through experimental gameplay.
Minecraft:Vines	File:Vines.png	Vines now play a sound when climbed.

Items

New

Banner pattern (Snout)	File:Banner Pattern JE1 BE1.png	Can be found in chests in bastion remnants.	Has the same function as any other banner pattern.
Music disc (Pigstep)	File:Music Disc Pigstep JE1 BE1.png	Can be found in chests in bastion remnants.	Has the same function as any other music disc.
Netherite scrap	File:Netherite Scrap JE2 BE1.png		Netherite scraps can be crafted into netherite ingots.
Netherite ingot	File:Netherite Ingot BE1.png		Netherite ingots can be used for upgrading diamond armor, weapons and tools into netherite versions.
Netherite armor	Template:Animate		Netherite armor does not burn in Minecraft:lava and instead floats on the surface. Netherite armor is tougher than diamond armor. Netherite armor has higher durability and enchantability than diamond.
Netherite axe, hoe, pickaxe, shovel, and sword	Template:Animate		They do not burn in Minecraft:lava and instead float on the surface. They have a higher durability, mining level, breaking multiplier, and enchantability than diamond. All items, except the Minecraft:hoe, deal 1 more damage than their diamond counterparts.
Warped fungus on a stick	File:Warped Fungus on a Stick JE1 BE1.png		Warped fungus on a stick can be used to control striders
Spawn egg (Hoglin/Minecraft:piglin/strider/zoglin/piglin brute)	Template:Animate	Can be obtained only via creative inventory.	Has the same function as any other spawn egg.

Bone meal	File:Bone Meal.png	Bone meal can now be used to grow weeping vines, and twisting vines. Bone meal will now grow Nether fungus, crimson roots, warped roots, and nether sprouts if it is used on a Minecraft:nylium block.
Minecraft:Compass	File:Lodestone Compass BE1.gif	Using a compass on a Minecraft:lodestone creates a lodestone compass, which points to that block. Compasses can now be enchanted with Curse of Vanishing.
All Minecraft:hoes	Template:Animate	Each tier now has a different speed at which it mines Minecraft:blocks it is effective against. Hoes can now be enchanted with Efficiency, Fortune, and Minecraft:Silk Touch through the enchanting table. Hoes are now the appropriate tools for mining hay bales, Minecraft:targets, dried kelp blocks, Minecraft:sponges, wet sponges, Minecraft:leaves, Minecraft:shroomlights, nether wart blocks, and warped wart blocks.

Huge crimson fungi make up the "trees" of this forest, with Minecraft:shroomlights lighting up the forest floor. Weeping vines will often grow down from the nether wart blocks on the Huge Crimson Fungi. A red fog covers the entirety of the biome. Red ashes and particles often flow through the air. Many hoglins, Minecraft:piglins and zombified piglins can be found spawning within the Crimson Forest. Biome-exclusive ambient sounds can be heard within the forest.
