Template:Infobox guide This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in the Minecraft:Boss Update (Template:BE 0.16.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with the Minecraft:Friendly Update (Bedrock Edition 0.15.x releases).

Mobs

Minecraft:Guardian	File:Guardian Revision 1.png	Naturally generated in underwater temples.	Guardians always drop when dying: Template:Drop Guardians have a chance to drop additional items: Template:Drop Template:Drop In addition, the guardian has a 2.5% chance of dropping an additional fish.	Attacks Minecraft:squid and players with a beam. When on land it flops around but remains hostile. The player will also get damaged with a thorns-like effect if it damages the guardian while their spikes are deployed (as if it's being prickled).
Minecraft:Elder guardian	File:Elder Guardian Revision 1.png	Naturally generated in underwater temples.	Elder Guardians always drop when dying: Template:Drop Template:Drop Elder Guardians have a chance to drop additional items: Template:Drop Template:Drop In addition, the Elder Guardian has a 2.5% chance of dropping an additional fish.	Is recognized as a Boss creature. Only 3 will be generated for each underwater temple. Will give nearby players the Minecraft:Mining Fatigue III effect.
Minecraft:Wither	File:Wither JE1 BE1.png	Place 4 Minecraft:soul sand in a T shape and place 3 Minecraft:wither skeleton skulls on top of it to create it (pictured below).	Template:Drop	New boss creature. Spawns 3-4 Minecraft:wither skeletons when health drops to 50%. Does not spawn on Easy difficulty. Has new animations when crafting and being killed. New sounds.

Minecraft:Beacon	File:Beacon JE4 BE1.png	Template:Crafting	Can be mined directly with Minecraft:tools or by hand.	Beacons can be activated by building pyramids of mineral blocks. Adding iron ingots, gold ingots, diamonds and emeralds to the beacon can activate buffs and give the player some positive Minecraft:status effects.
Minecraft:Sea lantern	File:Sea Lantern JE1.gif	Naturally generated in underwater temples. Template:Crafting	Only tools enchanted with Minecraft:Silk Touch can obtain the block itself, otherwise 2-3 Minecraft:prismarine crystals will be dropped.	Will emit brightness level 15.

Minecraft:Wet sponge	File:Wet Sponge JE1 BE1.png	Naturally generated in underwater temples. The sponge will become a wet sponge after absorbing water.	Can be mined with bare hands and will drop itself.	Can be dried using a furnace.

Minecraft:Sponge	File:Sponge JE2 BE2.png	Rejoined survival mode. Can absorb water. Changed to Java Edition 1.8 textures.
Minecraft:Bed	File:Red Bed (N) JE1.png	New sound effects when placed.
Minecraft:Furnace	File:Furnace (S) JE2 BE1.png	Better descriptions for devices that don't use controllers (inputs, fuels and products).
Minecraft:Monster egg	Template:Animate	Added to Minecraft:creative inventory.
