Obtaining
Natural generation
One splash potion of Weakness can be found in a Minecraft:brewing stand inside an Minecraft:igloo basement.
Generated loot
Brewing
Template:Main Template:Brewing
Splash potions are brewed by adding gunpowder to a normal potion, including uncraftable potions of luckTemplate:Only and decayTemplate:Only.
Bartering
Minecraft:Piglins have a 1.74% chance of Minecraft:bartering a splash potion of Fire Resistance when given a Minecraft:gold ingot.
Filling bottles
Using a glass bottle on a Minecraft:cauldron that contains splash potion turns it into a bottle of that splash potion, this also removes Template:Frac of the cauldron's content.Template:Only
Usage
Brewing
Minecraft:Lingering potions are brewed by adding dragon's breath to a splash potion.
Using
Splash potions are thrown by Template:Control them. On impact they splash, applying Minecraft:status effects to nearby entities. When thrown by the player, they have a range of 8 blocks if thrown at the best angle. The bottle is lost, unlike drinkable Minecraft:potions. Entities within an 8.25×8.25×4.25 cuboid centered on the thrown potion at impact and within 4 blocks euclidean distance of the thrown potion<ref group="n">Specifically its lower-north-west corner; the potion entity like most thrown entities is 0.25×0.25×0.25 blocks.</ref> at impact are affected.
Splash and drinkable forms have the same duration.
If the potion directly collides with an entity, the entity gets the full duration and potency of the effect. Otherwise, the farther away the entity is from the center of the impact, the less the effect. For instant effects (i.e., Healing and Harming), the potency of the effect reduces linearly from 100% on a direct hit to 0% at 4 blocks' distance. For other effects, the potency is unchanged, but the duration decreases linearly on the same scale (rounded to the nearest Template:Frac second), with no effect being applied if the duration would be 1 second or less.
The entity's distance from the potion's impact point is based on the closest point of the hitbox rather than its center.
Splash water bottles
Splash water bottles have no effect on almost all entities, but they extinguish fire in the block hit and the four blocks horizontally surrounding it.
A splash water bottle deals Template:Hp damage to Minecraft:endermen, Minecraft:striders, Minecraft:snow golems, and Minecraft:blazes; however, endermen have a chance of teleporting away if hit with one. Splash water bottles will also restore Template:Convert of air to an Minecraft:axolotl.
Splash water bottles can extinguish burning entities.
Mud
Splash water bottles can be Template:Control on Minecraft:dirt, Minecraft:coarse dirt, or Minecraft:rooted dirt to turn it into Minecraft:mud.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Filling cauldrons
Template:IN, using a splash potion on a cauldron adds one level of that potion to the cauldron. Attempting to add a splash potion to a cauldron with water, dyed water or a non-matching potion empties the cauldron and creates an explosion sound (but no actual explosion).
Uncraftable splash potion
Template:IN, the uncraftable splash potion is a splash potion with no effect that is unobtainable in survival mode. It is also available in potion and lingering potion forms, as well as for tipped arrows.
It can be obtained using the following command: Template:Cmd. It is also obtained when a splash potion has invalid or missing potion effect tags, and thus serves as a placeholder.
Behavior
<section begin="thrownpotion"/> Template:Infobox entity
Motion
Thrown by player
When thrown by a player, splash potion experiences initial speed of about 0.5 block/tick with slight initial pitch angle deflection of -20°. Its movement follows the ticking order of acceleration, drag, position and this can be simulated to predict the overall trajectory. Below is a calculator to predict the initial conditions in order to hit a desired coordinate:
Shot by dispenser
Splash potions shot by dispensers behave in the exact manner as when they were thrown by a player, with the only difference in their initial conditions. The initial position of splash potions when shot by a dispenser offsets exactly 0.7 blocks forward and 0.1 blocks higher from the center of the block. Their initial speed is slightly randomized, which averages to about 1.375 block/tick.
Collisions
Thrown splash potions collide with blocks according to their collision box. They also collide with entities, but with the entities' collision box inflated to about 0.3 blocks in every direction. They collide with all living entities, including minecarts, boats, end crystals, falling blocks, and TNT.<section end="thrownpotion"/>
Custom effects
Template:Main
Template:IN, splash potions can be obtained with any status effect using Template:Cmd and the potion_contents data component.
Sounds
Template:Edition:
Splash potions use the Friendly Mobs sound category for entity-dependent sound events.

Trivia
- If an enderman is targeted directly by a splash potion, it teleports away before the potion can affect it. However, if an enderman is caught in the splash radius of a potion not aimed at it, it takes damage from the potion.
- If killed by a splash potion of harming, the death message would be: <player> was killed by <attacker> using magic
- A thrown splash potion faces toward the Minecraft:player in first-person view, while it appears rotated horizontally in third-person view. This is the case for all throwable Minecraft:items (Minecraft:ender pearls, Minecraft:eggs, Minecraft:snowballs, and all throwable potions).
Unused splash potions
Minecraft:Bedrock Edition has unused splash potion textures for several Minecraft:effects, along with their normal variants. These effects are: Minecraft:Absorption, Minecraft:Blindness, Minecraft:Haste, Minecraft:Health Boost, Minecraft:Hunger, Minecraft:Mining Fatigue, Minecraft:Nausea, Minecraft:Resistance, Saturation, and Minecraft:Levitation, as well as the Minecraft:Luck potion textures also present in Minecraft:Java Edition. These unused textures were added along with the other potion textures in Minecraft:Pocket Edition v0.12.1 alpha, except for the potion of Levitation, which was added in Minecraft:Pocket Edition 1.0.0. The textures were changed along with the other potion textures during the Minecraft:texture update in Minecraft:Bedrock Edition 1.10.0.
