Survival mode is one of the Minecraft:game modes in Minecraft:Minecraft. Players must collect resources, build structures, battle Minecraft:mobs, eat, and explore the world in an effort to survive.
Template:IN, Minecraft:advancements are available on any world type regardless of whether cheats are turned on or off.
Template:IN, Minecraft:players may receive Minecraft:achievements in a world not set to Minecraft:Flat world type, in Survival mode, without Minecraft:cheats, and without non-Minecraft:Marketplace Minecraft:add-ons applied. If a player creates a world in Minecraft:Creative mode and then loads it in Survival mode, the player cannot earn achievements in that world.
Gameplay
In Survival, Minecraft:players have an Minecraft:inventory that consists of four rows of slots used to store Minecraft:items, nine of which are found on the Minecraft:hotbar. All Minecraft:blocks require a certain amount of time to break, unlike Minecraft:Creative mode where blocks can be instantly destroyed. Template:IN, if the command Template:Cmd is executed, the player can't place or break Minecraft:blocks like Minecraft:Adventure mode.
Items can be used in Minecraft:recipes to create Minecraft:tools and other items. This process is known as Minecraft:crafting. The recipes can also be accessed by clicking the Minecraft:recipe book under the 2×2 crafting grid. Most crafting recipes require a Minecraft:crafting table. Some items cannot be obtained by crafting normally and require a Minecraft:furnace for processing (e.g. glass requires sand for smelting). Various other crafting stations exist for other uses, such as Minecraft:brewing, repairing, and Minecraft:enchanting.
In Survival mode, the player is able to receive Minecraft:damage from the environment (fall damage, suffocation, Minecraft:lava, and freezing) and from Minecraft:hostile mobs (unless playing on Minecraft:Peaceful, where hostile mobs are disabled). A player who receives enough damage Minecraft:dies and returns to the world spawn, or to a previously slept-in bed, or in Minecraft:the Nether to a Minecraft:respawn anchor if the player set one.
If Minecraft:cheats are enabled, a player can switch to Survival mode by using the Minecraft:command Template:Cmd but cannot earn Minecraft:achievements.
Goals
In Survival, the main goal is to survive, build, explore, and have fun, but another optional goal in Survival is to defeat the Minecraft:ender dragon.
The player can "beat the game" in Survival mode by defeating the Minecraft:ender dragon in Minecraft:the End, but this does not terminate play; it provides a trophy item (a Minecraft:dragon egg), a large amount of Minecraft:experience, triggers the "Minecraft:End Poem" and unlocks a gateway to allow easier access to the outer end islands; another common goal is to fulfill all the predefined Minecraft:achievementsTemplate:Only/Minecraft:advancementsTemplate:Only. Oceans also invite exploration, as they have corals, monuments, and adapted creatures like Minecraft:guardians, Minecraft:fish and Minecraft:drowned. The player can also optionally fight the Minecraft:wither boss in order to obtain a Minecraft:nether star so that they can craft a Minecraft:beacon, which also completes all of the in-game Minecraft:achievements. A player can search for an Minecraft:elytra and more after finding an Minecraft:end city in the End.

Survival multiplayer allows players to connect to a central Minecraft Minecraft:server. This enables them to interact with each other and work together (or against each other) in order to achieve their goals. This is mostly used for friends to play on a private server together.
