20w15a is the eleventh Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.16, released on April 8, 2020,<ref name="20w15a">Template:Snap</ref> which adds a new Nether biome, new music tracks, new blocks, and other changes and fixes.

Minecraft:Biomes

• Template:BiomeLink
  • A volcanic biome in the Nether. Fog effects have flakes of volcanic ash.
  • Filled with pillars of Minecraft:basalt and large areas of Minecraft:blackstone.
  • Minecraft:Ghasts, Minecraft:magma cubes, and Minecraft:striders spawn in this biome.

General

Accessibility

• Chat line spacing can now be adjusted.
• A chat delay can be set between 0 (default) and 6 seconds.

Minecraft:Music

• Added 3 new soundtracks to Minecraft:the Nether, composed by Lena Raine: "Rubedo", "Chrysopoeia" and "So Below."
  • "Rubedo" plays in the Minecraft:Nether wastes biome.
  • "Chrysopoeia" plays in the Minecraft:crimson forest biome.
  • "So Below" plays in the Minecraft:soul sand valley and Minecraft:basalt deltas biomes.

Sound

• Added 31 Minecraft:ambient sounds for the basalt deltas.

Minecraft:Tags

• Added campfires block tag.
  • Contains campfires and soul campfires.
  • Minecraft:Bees, Minecraft:parrots, and Minecraft:turtles view blocks in this tag as dealing fire damage, and pathfind accordingly.
  • Campfires use this tag to determine if they are lit or not.
  • Flint and steel uses this tag to determine if it can light campfires.
• Added guarded_by_piglins block tag.
  • Contains container blocks (Minecraft:chests, Minecraft:trapped chests, Minecraft:ender chests, Minecraft:barrels, the shulker_boxes block tag) and gold blocks (Minecraft:blocks of gold, Minecraft:gilded blackstone, and the gold_ores block tag).
  • Minecraft:Piglins become hostile toward a player that destroys or use a block in this tag.
• Added furnace_materials item tag.
  • Contains Minecraft:cobblestone and Minecraft:blackstone.
  • Items in this tag can be used to craft furnaces and unlock the recipe in the recipe book.
• Added stone_tool_materials item tag.

Minecraft:Dispensers

• Can now saddle Minecraft:pigs, Minecraft:striders, and tamed Minecraft:horses, Minecraft:donkeys and Minecraft:mules.
• Can now put Minecraft:horse armor on tamed horses.
• Can now put Minecraft:carpets on tamed Minecraft:llamas.
• Can now put Minecraft:chests on tamed llamas, donkeys, and mules.
• Can now shear Minecraft:mooshrooms and Minecraft:snow golems.

Minecraft:Furnaces

• Can now be crafted with Minecraft:blackstone.

Minecraft:Soul fire torches

• Can now also be crafted with Minecraft:soul sand.

Minecraft:Walls

• Now connect to the bottom and sides of Minecraft:glass panes and Minecraft:iron bars.

• Are now the default tool for mining Minecraft:leaves.
  • Minecraft:Shears are still used for collecting leaf blocks.

Minecraft:Nether fungus, Minecraft:Nether sprouts, Minecraft:crimson roots, Minecraft:warped roots, Minecraft:Nether wart, Minecraft:Nether wart blocks, Minecraft:warped wart blocks, Minecraft:twisting vines, and Minecraft:weeping vines

• Can now be composted.

Mobs

General

• Mobs now avoid walking on Minecraft:magma blocks and lit Minecraft:campfires.

Minecraft:Hoglins

• Baby hoglins no longer drop loot (but still drop Minecraft:experience).

Minecraft:Magma cubes

• Spawn commonly in basalt deltas.

Minecraft:Piglins

• Now avoid soul campfires.
• Now become hostile toward any player that breaks a chest, trapped chest, ender chest, barrel, gold ore, Nether gold ore, gilded blackstone, or a gold block.

Minecraft:Striders

• Now turn blueish-purple outside of lava.
  • When outside lava, their facial expression becomes a more prominent frown.
• Can now only spawn if the block above the lava is air.
• Baby striders ride on top of bigger striders.

Minecraft:Zoglins

• Are now considered Minecraft:undead.

Minecraft:Tags

• Added polished blackstone, and (where applicable) blackstone blocks and items to the Template:Cd block and item tags.
• Added soul campfires to the piglin_repellents block tag.
• Added the #signs block tag and removed lanterns and soul fire lanterns from the wall_post_override block tag.

Textures

Minecraft:Strider

• Changed strider texture from File:Strider Texture JE1.png to File:Strider Texture JE2.png to remove an unused fin. The fin itself was not vieweable in-game.

Trivia

• The word "Rubedo" is Latin for "redness", it was adopted by alchemists to refer to the final stage of creating the philosopher's stone, it is also likely associated with the red-colored environment of the Nether.
• The word "Chrysopoeia" is an alchemical term that describes the creation of the philosopher's stone, or the transmutation of a given object into gold.
