21w11a is the fourteenth Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.17 released on March 17, 2021,<ref>Template:Snap</ref> which fixes numerous bugs, many of which relate to textures and rendering issues as well as adds new mechanics related to Minecraft:copper.
Additions
General
- Added Template:Key shortcut to generate and persist performance metrics from in-game, similar to Template:Cmd.
- Metrics are saved in Minecraft:.minecraft/debug/profiling/<timestamp>.zip.
- Added the Template:Cd particles.
- Added the
cluster_max_harvestablesitem tag.- Contains all pickaxes.
Changes
Blocks
- Breaking by hand, Minecraft:piston, or other means now drops 2 Minecraft:amethyst shards instead of dropping none.
- Breaking with any pickaxe can now be used to drop 4 amethyst shards instead of an iron pickaxe or higher.
- Can now be used as Minecraft:fuel in a Minecraft:furnace.
- Breaking the stem now drops the block.
- Now can be fertilized with Minecraft:bone meal on the stem to make the dripleaf grow.
Minecraft:Block of copper, Minecraft:cut copper, and variants
- Minecraft:Honeycomb can now be Template:Control to wax them, to match Template:BE.
- Yellow particles are formed when waxing the block.
- Using a Minecraft:dispenser with honeycomb waxes them, matching Bedrock Edition.
- Minecraft:Axes can now be Template:Control to scrape off wax and oxidation (one stage at a time).
- White particles are formed when scraping off wax from the block.
- Minecraft:Lightning now may clean oxidation, reverting the oxidation process by one or several stages.
- Chances of cleaning and number of reverted stages are higher the closer to the struck block.
- Waxed copper blocks can be crafted into 4 Minecraft:copper ingots, to match Bedrock Edition.
- Changed potion icon in the brewing stand GUI to reflect the new bottle texture in the Minecraft:Texture Update.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Removed some stray pixels from the GUI texture.
- Minecraft:Lava buckets and Minecraft:powder snow buckets can now be emptied in the respective filled cauldrons.
- Renamed the parts from "cave vines head" and "cave vines body" to "cave vines" and "cave vines plant", respectively.
- The IDs have also changed.
- Now all parts give a Minecraft:light level of 14.
- Previously, only the bottom-most part gave level 14; others gave only 10.
- Now slow down the player.
- Can now be climbed.

- The texture has changed.
- Minecraft:Bone meal can no longer be used on it if it has no blocks to spread to.
- Can now be used on a Minecraft:composter.
- Changed part of the dirt of the side texture of snowy grass to match regular grass.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Now renders randomly offset from the center.
- Removing the support block for it no longer allows it to float.
- Again replaces air below Y=-55.
- Slightly shrunk top part to prevent z-fighting with Minecraft:fire.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Can now be Minecraft:waterlogged.
- Now turns completely white when struck by Minecraft:lightning.
- Has a new block state, "powered", used to determine whether the rod turns completely white when struck by lightning.
- Now emits particles when in contact with rain.
- Can be combined with Minecraft:cobblestone or Minecraft:stone bricks to make the mossy versions of those blocks.
- Minecraft:Vines can still be used, in addition to moss blocks.
- In addition to Minecraft:axes,<ref>Template:Bug</ref> Minecraft:hoes are now an appropriate tool to collect it.
- Changed one pixel on the pumpkin's top texture to remove the possibility for a small swastika to be displayed.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Template:Control Minecraft:bone meal on any side grows Minecraft:hanging roots underneath.
- Changed the textures of acacia, birch, dark oak, jungle, oak, and spruce signs to reflect new textures in the Minecraft:Texture Update.
- The facing direction is now determined by which direction the player is facing when placing it.
- Changed the top texture of the smoker.
- Removing the support block for it no longer allows it to float.
- No longer causes Minecraft:suffocation.
- Mobs can no longer spawn on top of it.
Items
- Changed the texture of the jungle door item to reflect the block texture in the Texture Update.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Fired spectral arrows are now entirely golden to reflect the item texture in the Texture Update.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Changed the texture of the sugar cane item to better reflect biome tinting added in 1.7.2.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Mobs
- Changed the texture of the siamese cat type, mostly brightening it.
Minecraft:Guardian and Minecraft:elder guardian
- Removed some stray pixels from the texture file.
Minecraft:Villagers and Minecraft:zombie villagers
- Moved the librarian top overlay texture to correct side of its torso.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Non-mob entities
- Changed the back texture to reflect the planks texture in the Texture Update.
World generation
- Tweaked the cave sizes.
- Reduced the amount of floating water in lush caves.
- Slightly increased the frequency of Minecraft:diamond ore blobs.
- If any ore replaces tuff, it is now deepslate ore.
Gameplay
- Frozen hearts now have a different texture in Minecraft:Hardcore mode to reflect the regular heart texture.
Minecraft:Spectator mode
- It is now possible to see while inside Minecraft:lava and Minecraft:powder snow.
- Added subtitles for amethyst blocks chiming.
- Added subtitles for waxing and removing wax from copper blocks.
- These are "Wax on" and "Wax off", but are not triggered in-game.<ref name="subtitle">Template:Bug</ref>
- Changed the subtitles for stripping logs and wood from "Axe scrapes" to "Axe strips".
- "Axe scrapes" is now used for copper blocks. However, it is not triggered in-game.<ref name="subtitle"/>
General
- Added cave vines and cave vines plant to the
climbableblock tag. - Added tuff to the
deepslate_ore_replaceablesblock tag. - Added tinted glass to the
impermeableblock tag. - Removed tuff from the
stone_ore_replaceablesblock tag.

- This version has the same Minecraft:data version as Minecraft:Combat Test 7b, even though these versions should not be compatible with each other.
- 21w11a held the record for the largest number of bug fixes in a single snapshot, and the second highest of any development version, at 127. This record was beaten by Minecraft:24w33a.
