Minecraft:Java Edition guides/World of Color Update

This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in the Minecraft:World of Color Update (Template:JE 1.12.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with the Minecraft:Exploration Update (Java Edition 1.11.x releases).

Mobs

New

Minecraft:Parrot	Template:Animate	All Minecraft:jungle biomes	Template:Drop Template:Xp (when killed by a Minecraft:player or tamed Minecraft:wolf)	Passive mob, tamable with seeds. Normally flies around, but sits when tired. Dances if a Minecraft:jukebox is playing music nearby. Feeding it a Minecraft:cookie cause the parrot to die.
Minecraft:Illusioner	File:Illusioner JE1.png	Can only spawn by using the Template:Cmd command.	Template:Drop Template:Xp (when killed by a Minecraft:player or tamed Minecraft:wolf)	New illager type. Affects players with Minecraft:Blindness for 20 seconds, then summons duplicates of itself.

Minecraft:Sheep	Template:Animate	Changed color texture to match Minecraft:wool colors.
Minecraft:Shulker	Template:Animate	Changed color texture to match Minecraft:wool. Purple shulker is unchanged.

Blocks

Minecraft:Concrete	Template:Animate	Created when Minecraft:concrete powder comes into contact with still or flowing Minecraft:water.	Pickaxe	Can be used as a decorative block.
Minecraft:Concrete powder	Template:Animate		Shovel	Can be used as a decorative block. Can be turned into Minecraft:concrete if it comes into contact with water.
Minecraft:Glazed terracotta	Template:Animate		Pickaxe	Can be used as a decorative block. Can be useful in redstone mechanisms, as blocks pushed by Minecraft:pistons don't stick to it on the side.
Minecraft:Beds for all colors	Template:Animate		Axe	Can be used to set the player's spawn point and to skip the night.

Changed

Minecraft:Wools, Minecraft:banners and Minecraft:shulker boxes	Template:Animate	Changed textures. Purple shulker box is unchanged.
Minecraft:Bed	File:Red Bed (N) JE2.png	Renamed to "Red Bed". Can now only be crafted using red wool. Changed texture. Now has a 3D model in the inventory. Beds are made bouncy, though they do not completely reduce all fall damage.
Minecraft:Hardened clay	File:Terracotta JE1 BE1.png	Renamed to terracotta.
Minecraft:Buttons, Minecraft:levers, Minecraft:redstone torches, Minecraft:torches, and Minecraft:tripwire hooks		Can now be placed on File:Jack o'Lantern (S) JE2.png Minecraft:jack o'lanterns.
Minecraft:Fences, Minecraft:cobblestone walls, Minecraft:glass panes, and Minecraft:iron bars		Now connect to the back and underside of Minecraft:stairs.

Minecraft:Minecart with TNT	File:Minecart with TNT JE1 BE1.png	No longer instantly explode when hit with fire charges; instead, they explode as if primed by an activator rail.
Minecraft:Painting	File:Painting JE1 BE1.png	Now tries to place the largest possible variant in the available space it has.

Minecraft:End portal	Completing the end portal and having the portal spawn.
Minecraft:Boat	Boat paddles.
Minecraft:Player	Player drowning. Player burning.
Minecraft:Toasts	Completing a challenge advancement. Toast notifications.

Gameplay

Minecraft:Recipe book

Catalogs recipes that are unlocked when the criteria are met. When a recipe is clicked, it appears in the crafting grid, and can be crafted if materials are available.

Minecraft:Advancements

Replaces achievements. Can be customized via JSON files. There are currently 5 tabs, accessed with Template:Keys.

Java	Support for Java 6 and 7 was dropped in this version, so Java 8 or later is now required.
