Template:Infobox block Packed iceTemplate:Fn is a variant of Minecraft:ice that functions almost identically, but does not melt and is Minecraft:opaque instead of transparent. Like other types of ice, it can only be obtained using a Minecraft:Silk Touch tool.
Obtaining
Breaking
Packed ice can be obtained using any Minecraft:tool enchanted with Minecraft:Silk Touch, though a Minecraft:pickaxe is the fastest. Without Silk Touch, breaking it drops nothing. Unlike normal Minecraft:ice, packed ice never turns into Minecraft:water when broken.
Natural generation
Packed ice is found in the rare Minecraft:ice spikes biome. It also forms Minecraft:icebergs found in Minecraft:frozen oceans. Packed ice also generates in Minecraft:frozen peaks and in Minecraft:ice patches.
Packed ice generates as windows in Minecraft:igloos.Template:Only
Packed ice generates as Minecraft:piles (and in some houses or meeting points) in Minecraft:villages in Minecraft:snowy plains biome.
Packed ice also generates in Minecraft:ancient cities and in Minecraft:trial chambers surrounding Minecraft:stray spawners.

Speed
Packed ice is slippery, causing most Minecraft:entities to slide, including Minecraft:items. This also allows for increased speed of items in water currents by placing the packed ice under the water current. Minecraft:Mobs do not travel faster in water currents on packed ice.
Template:IN, when a non-full block of half-block or less in height is placed on top of packed ice, the block inherits the same 'slipperiness' as the ice below it for most entities, not including Minecraft:boats due to a bug.<ref>Template:Bug</ref> Additionally, any non-full block inherits the 'slipperiness' for items.
Boats can travel on packed ice with a top speed of 40 m/s. Ice tracks built from Minecraft:blue ice, packed ice, or a combination are useful for long-range travel in all three dimensions.
Mobs can spawn on packed ice. This can allow for compact mob farms that rely on the tendency of pushed mobs to slide off the ice in some way.
Packed ice is a completely solid block, and allows placement of any objects on top.
Unlike normal Minecraft:ice, packed ice does not melt if placed near light sources.
Packed ice is not a storage block, as it cannot be Minecraft:crafted back into Minecraft:ice.
Note block
Packed ice can be placed under Minecraft:note blocks to produce chime sounds.
Sulfur cube
Template:In development Minecraft:Sulfur cubes have the ability to absorb packed ice, either through picking it up or being interacted with it. This provides the hockey puck/fast sliding effect to the mob when hitting it.
