Bedrock Edition
Other tooltips
BE tooltips display the following information. They are formatted with <code>§</code> to make them show different colors or italics.

Enchanting table options
The three enchantment options in an enchanting table, displayed when an enchantable item is added, have tooltips displaying one of the enchantments that are added through this option, formatted like "<Enchantment> <level> . . . ?". The tooltip is italicized bedrock; java, the enchantment name and level are displayed in gray (#AAAAAA).

In Minecraft:Survival and Minecraft:Adventure mode, additional lines are shown for the Minecraft:experience and lapis lazuli requirements:

* When the enchantment is not available and there is not enough lapis lazuli in the enchanting table slot, it displays the required lapis lazuli (in red, #FF5555), and consumed experience levels (in gray, #AAAAAA in Java Edition or #C6C6C6 in Bedrock Edition).
* When the enchantment is available, it displays the required lapis lazuli and consumed experience levels both in gray.
* When there is enough lapis lazuli, but the player does not meet the level requirement, it displays the enchantment's level requirement in red.

Text in bold is directly shown as such on the tooltip.
Smithing table slots
In a smithing table, the three slots can show tooltips when empty:

* Item name
* Add Smithing Template: always displayed in the first slot.
** Depending on the Minecraft:rarity, this uses a color code.
* Add a piece of armor: displayed in the second slot when an armor trim is in the first.
** Custom names created by the player, such as by renaming in an anvil or signing a book, are in italics (<code>§o</code>). These can override formatting codes.
* Add Diamond armor, weapon, or tool: displayed in the second slot when a netherite upgrade is in the first.
** The item name can be variable, such as for Minecraft:buckets of tropical fish and filled maps.
* Add ingot or crystal: displayed in the third slot when an armor trim is in the first.
* Minecraft:Bundle contents (not in Creative inventory/recipe book):
* Add Netherite Ingot: displayed in the third slot when a netherite upgrade is in the first.
** When empty, displays "<code>§8</code> Can hold a mixed stack of items".

** With items, displays the first 12 item types in slots that can be scrolled over, displaying a second tooltip containing only the selected item name above the bundle tooltip. With 13 item types or more, displays the first 11 items and an unselectable counter of the remaining item quantity.
Additionally, when items are placed in smithing table slots, their tooltips have fixed width.
** Below, always shows the progress bar.

* Minecraft:Map information:
Tooltips are not shown in empty smithing table slots on touch controls.
** Level 0/4 (or any other available level)

** Locked (only when the map is locked)

File:ExampleTooltip.png
An example of an item tooltip with enchantments and attributes Template:In

A tooltip contains information that appears when hovering over or focusing on Minecraft:items or certain UI elements.

Item tooltips

When hovering over an Minecraft:item with the cursor while in the Minecraft:inventory or a Minecraft:container screen, a tooltip with the item’s name appears next to the cursor. When playing with touch controls, tapping an item displays its tooltip on the bottom of the screen. Some items display extra information on their tooltips, such as enchantments and Minecraft:shulker box contents. Template:IN, basic item tooltips are also visible in the "Items" section of the Minecraft:statistics menu when hovering over a block or item on the left side of the screen.

Template:IN, advanced tooltips, including item IDs and the exact remaining Minecraft:durability of tools, can be displayed by pressing the Minecraft:debug hotkey Template:Key.

Some information that is visible on tooltips is also shown above the hotbar on the Minecraft:HUD when selecting the item.

Template:IN, tooltip lines that are customizable allow Minecraft:formatting codes and Minecraft:emojis. Obfuscated text is not animated in tooltips, but it is on the HUD.

Description of item tooltip lines

The table below describes all possible tooltip lines, in the order at which they always appear in-game.

In "Content" column, cells with yellow background means the exact text displayed.

An enchanting table tooltip in Creative mode

The tooltip is italicized Template:In; Template:In, the enchantment name and level are displayed in gray (Template:Color).

In Minecraft:Survival and Minecraft:Adventure mode, additional lines are shown for the Minecraft:experience and lapis lazuli requirements:

 • When the enchantment is not available and there is not enough lapis lazuli in the enchanting table slot, it displays the required lapis lazuli (in red, Template:Color), and consumed experience levels (in gray, Template:Color in Java Edition or Template:Color in Bedrock Edition).
 • When the enchantment is available, it displays the required lapis lazuli and consumed experience levels both in gray.
 • When there is enough lapis lazuli, but the player does not meet the level requirement, it displays the enchantment's level requirement in red.

Smithing table slots

 • Add Netherite Ingot: displayed in the third slot when a netherite upgrade is in the first.

Additionally, when items are placed in smithing table slots, their tooltips have fixed width.

Tooltips are not shown in empty smithing table slots on touch controls.

Option tooltips
