Template:For Template:Infobox entity Husks are a variant of the Minecraft:zombie that spawn in Minecraft:deserts. They function similarly to zombies, except that they do not burn in Minecraft:sunlight, and they inflict Hunger with their unarmed attacks.
Spawning
Husks spawn at a light level of 0 in the Minecraft:desert, mostly replacing zombies in these biomes.
Template:IN, husks spawn directly under the sky in groups of 4 in place of 80% of all zombies and zombie villagers spawned in desert biomes.
Template:IN, husks spawn on the surface in groups of 2-4 in place of 70% of all zombies and zombie villagers spawned in desert biomes.
Camel husk jockeys
When spawning naturally, husks have a 10% chance to spawn as Minecraft:camel husk jockey if they spawn in a space that does not block the collision box required for a Minecraft:camel husk. This can only happen for up to one husk in each spawning pack. This can happen even when the husk spawns as a baby and was supposed to spawn as a Minecraft:chicken jockey. In that case, the chicken is spawned as a "jockey chicken" (i.e. it doesn't lay eggs and can despawn) but the husk spawns riding the camel husk instead.
Trial spawners
Husks have a Template:Frac chance to be selected as the "melee" mob for Minecraft:trial spawners in Minecraft:trial chambers.
Reinforcements
Template:MainTemplate:Exclusive On Hard Minecraft:difficulty, all husks have a 0-10% chance to spawn other husks as reinforcements when receiving Minecraft:damage while targeting an Minecraft:entity. Additionally, up to 5% of husks spawn as leaders, getting a 50-75% boost to that chance. Just like for regular husk spawning, reinforcement husks can only spawn in places with direct sky exposure.
Variants
Baby husks
Baby husks make up 5% of husk spawns. They behave similarly to adult husks, with the following differences:
- They are much smaller than adult husks, with a decreased hitbox size. This allows them to fit through 1x1 Minecraft:block gaps.
- Worn Minecraft:armor shrinks to fit their body size.
- They are much faster than adult husks, yet they have the same amount of Minecraft:health.
- The noises they make are higher-pitched than adult husk Minecraft:sound effects.
- They give 12 Minecraft:experience points when killed by the player or a tamed wolf, instead of 5.
- Unlike most other Minecraft:baby mobs, they remain babies indefinitely and never become adult husks, therefore Minecraft:golden dandelions cannot be used on them.
Jockeys
Template:Main Template:IN, every baby husk has a chance to spawn as a Minecraft:chicken jockey. In a Minecraft:chicken-free environment, each baby has a 4.75% chance of spawning as a chicken jockey, for a total 0.2375% chance for each spawned husk to spawn as a chicken jockey; if chickens are present, the chance increases to 0.4875%.
Template:IN, 15% of naturally spawned baby husks can mount certain mobs and become a Minecraft:jockey after they spawn. A jockey mob ridden by a baby husk adapts to the speed of its rider. A baby husk can ride: Template:Columns-list
Camel husk jockeys
Husks have a chance to spawn riding a Minecraft:camel husk, alongside with a Minecraft:parched passenger, and wielding an Minecraft:iron spear as a Minecraft:camel husk jockey. The husk can be an adult or baby and can spawn wearing Minecraft:armor.
Drops
On death
Taken equipment
When a husk dies, all of its picked-up equipment drops without changing the damage that has accumulated on it Template:In. Template:IN, the armor's durability is still vulnerable to attacks, as if a player is wearing it.Template:Verify
Naturally-spawned equipment
Husks have an 8.5% chance of dropping their naturally-spawned equipment (except Halloween carved pumpkins and jack o'lanterns)Template:Only with a random durability. Each level of Minecraft:Looting increases the chance 1 percentage point (11.5% with Looting III). Template:IN, they cannot drop the Minecraft:diamond swords or trimmed armor that they occasionally wield/wear during Minecraft:ominous trials. These items include:
- Template:ItemLink (sometimes Minecraft:enchanted)
- Template:ItemLink (sometimes enchanted)
- Template:ItemLink (sometimes enchanted)
- Template:ItemLink (in ominous trials)Template:Only
- Template:ItemLink (sometimes Minecraft:enchanted, made from leather, copper, gold, chainmail, iron or diamond)
Experience
Adult husks drop Template:Xp and baby husks drop Template:Xp when they are killed by a player or a tamed Minecraft:wolf. Any husk that spawns with equipment drops an additional Template:Xp per item.
Behavior
Like zombies, husks are hostile toward the player, Minecraft:iron golems, Minecraft:villagers, baby Minecraft:turtles, and Minecraft:wandering traders. They pursue these mobs on sight from up to 40 blocks away, as opposed to 16 blocks like most other hostile mobs. If any other mob attacks a husk on purpose, all other husks and zombie variants (except Minecraft:zombified piglins) within a 67×67×21 to 111×111×21 area become hostile toward the attacker. They attempt to avoid obstacles, including sheer cliffs, water, and lava, and try to find the shortest path to the player.
Template:AnchorHusks apply Hunger to any player or mob they hit using a melee attack, unless the husk is holding an item in its main hand or the player blocks the attack with a Minecraft:shield. This effect lasts for 7 × floor (regional difficulty) seconds.
Husks are one of the few Minecraft:undead mobs that are immune to burning in sunlight, which allows them to stay around during the day.
Husks have a chance to spawn with the ability to break down Minecraft:doors on Hard Minecraft:difficulty.
Husks seek out any nearby Minecraft:turtle eggs and trample them.
Husks can pick up Minecraft:items if the game rule Template:Cd is set to true, which prevents them from Minecraft:despawning.
Husks attempt to avoid Minecraft:water, only entering it when there is no other path to their target.
A husk that is fully submerged in water for 30 seconds begins converting to a normal Minecraft:zombie, which takes an additional 15 seconds and cannot be stopped even if the husk leaves water. Once this process finishes, the zombie that it becomes has full health even if the husk has been damaged, and may further convert into a Minecraft:drowned if it remains submerged.
Template:IN, husks are never spawned as part of a Minecraft:zombie siege, but if a husk naturally spawns nearby, it will join the siege and behave like all other zombies.
Using spears
Husks wielding spears have different attacking behavior. When attacking, they use the spear's charge attack while moving toward their target. They hold the charge through its full duration, using all 3 stages. Once the charge attack has ended or they get too close to their target, they walk away to increase the distance between them and their target before turning around to begin another charge. If a husk accidentally damages a neutral or hostile mob (except goats) with a spear's charge attack, the mob retaliates and attacks that husk.
Mob type
Being an Minecraft:undead mob, they are:
- Damaged by the status effect Minecraft:Instant Health and healed by the status effect Minecraft:Instant Damage.
- Unaffected by the status effects Minecraft:Regeneration and Minecraft:Poison.
- Ignored by the Minecraft:wither.
- Affected by the Minecraft:Smite enchantment.
- Unable to swim in Minecraft:water, but do not drown.
- A threat to Minecraft:armadillos, causing them to hide in their shell.
As they are undead and do not grow up, Minecraft:golden dandelions do not work on baby husks.
Picking up items
Template:Main Like zombies, some husks spawn with the ability to pick up dropped Minecraft:items from the ground in Normal and Hard Minecraft:difficulty, with the chance being higher in the latter. Template:IN, husks pick up items that they happen to walk near. Template:IN, they actively search for and walk toward dropped items.
Standard husks can pick up all items except for Minecraft:glow ink sacs. Minecraft:Chicken jockey riders also cannot pick up any variant of an Minecraft:eggTemplate:Verify.
If the picked up item is Minecraft:armor, the husk equips the armor into its respective armor slot. Minecraft:Carved pumpkins and Minecraft:heads are worn on their heads, and Minecraft:elytra are worn in the their chestplate slot. If the picked up item is a Minecraft:shield, the husk equips it to their offhand. It cannot use the shield to block incoming attacks, however.
If a husk encounters another similar Minecraft:item, it may drop the previous item in favor of the new one if:
- both items are armor/weapons and the new item is better damage-wise (reduces higher damage for armor, or inflicts more damage for weapons) without considering enchantments,
- both items are armor/weapons with the same damage reduction/infliction, the new item has NBT tags while the old does notTemplate:Only or the new item is less damaged than the old item
Items dropped by mobs in exchange for another cannot be picked up by players or mobs for 10 game ticks (0.5 seconds, barring lag), but can be picked up by Minecraft:hoppers.
A husk equipped with a picked-up Minecraft:item becomes persistent and does not Minecraft:despawn, similar to being named.
Picked-up items do not cause the husk to drop more experience when killed, unlike naturally-spawned gear.
In Template:BE, due to a bug, husks, as well as zombies, zombie villagers, and drowned can also wear Minecraft:horse armor, Minecraft:nautilus armor, and Minecraft:wolf armor.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Geared husks
Template:Main Some husks spawn wearing Minecraft:armor or holding weapons, both of which may be Minecraft:enchanted. In addition, husks may also spawn with the ability to pick up loot that is on the ground. The chances of each of these events occurring are listed below. If a husk spawns wearing multiple pieces of armor, the armor is never mismatched (i.e. all pieces are made of the same material). Husks cannot naturally spawn with Minecraft:netherite armor.
| Easy | Normal | Hard | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Can pick up loot | 0% | 0–55%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> | 6.875–55%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> |
| Armor | 0% | 0–15%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty">Value is based on the Minecraft:regional difficulty.</ref> | 1.875–15%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> |
| Armor enchantment<ref group="note" name="enchantment"/> | 0% | 0–50%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> | 6.25–50%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> |
| Weapon<ref group="note">Template:Frac chance of an iron sword, Template:Frac chance of an iron spear, Template:Frac chance of an iron shovel</ref> | 1% | 1% | 5% |
| Weapon enchantment<ref group="note" name="enchantment">Enchantment is the same as on an enchantment table at level 5–22.<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/></ref> | 0% | 0–25%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> | 3.125–25%<ref group="note" name="localdifficulty"/> |
If a husk does spawn with armor, the chances of specific armor are as follows:
| Armor | Easy & Normal | Hard |
|---|---|---|
| Helmet | 100% | 100% |
| Helmet and chestplate | 75% | 90% |
| Helmet, chestplate, and leggings | 56.25% | 81% |
| Full set | 42.19% | 72.9% |
The chances of it being of a particular material are:
| Armor type | Chance |
|---|---|
| Leather | 23.60% |
| Copper | 32.23% |
| Gold | 33.29% |
| Chain | 9.73% |
| Iron | 1.10% |
| Diamond | 0.04% |
Template:IN, the armor is not damaged by any damage source; it cannot "wear out" the way Minecraft:player armor does. Unlike other zombies, Minecraft:helmets worn by husks do not break if the husk is exposed to daylight. Template:IN, any armor piece is damaged as if the player is wearing it.Template:Verify
Husks also have a natural armor rating of Template:Armor, giving 1.6 to 8% damage reduction from most sources. Husks can also wear mob Minecraft:heads, although they need to be dropped by the player before the husk can pick one up and put it on.
On Template:W, husks Template:In may spawn wearing a Minecraft:carved pumpkin or Minecraft:jack o'lantern. They are never dropped, even when the husks are killed with Minecraft:Looting.
