Template:Infobox item An iron chestplate is a variant of Minecraft:chestplate that is crafted from Minecraft:iron ingots. It is the third-highest Minecraft:tier of chestplate, having higher armor points than golden and Minecraft:chainmail chestplates.
Obtaining
Crafting
Natural generation
Two Minecraft:armor stands are found in each Minecraft:taiga village outdoor armory, one of them equipped with an iron chestplate.
Generated loot
Mob loot
Minecraft:Zombies, Minecraft:husks, Minecraft:skeletons, Minecraft:strays, and Minecraft:bogged have a small chance to spawn wearing armor, which may include an iron chestplate. There is a 8.5% chance (9.5% with Minecraft:Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop the chestplate they're wearing upon death unless they are spawned from an Minecraft:ominous trial spawner. The dropped chestplate is usually badly damaged, and may be Minecraft:enchanted with enchantment levels 5-19.
Template:IN, Minecraft:vindicators and Minecraft:pillagers spawning in Minecraft:raids have a 4.16% chance (5.128% on hard difficulty) to drop an iron chestplate. The dropped chestplate is usually badly damaged, and has a 50% chance of being Minecraft:enchanted with a random Minecraft:enchantment.
Trading
Usage
When worn, an iron chestplate provides Template:Armor Minecraft:armor points.
Repairing
Two damaged iron chestplates can be combined through Minecraft:crafting or using the Minecraft:grindstone. The durability of the used iron chestplates are added together, plus an extra 5% durability. Both the crafting table and grindstone methods do not keep the enchantments of either chestplate.
Template:Crafting Template:Grinding
Unit repair
An iron chestplate can also be repaired in an Minecraft:anvil by adding Minecraft:iron ingots, with each ingot restoring 25% the chestplates' maximum durability, rounded down. Two chestplates of the same tier can also be combined in an anvil. Both methods using the anvil preserves the chestplate's Minecraft:enchantments.
Enchantments
An iron chestplate can receive the following Minecraft:enchantments:

Armor trimming
It is possible to upgrade armor with trims. This requires a Minecraft:smithing template, a chestplate, and an ingot or crystal (Minecraft:iron ingot, Minecraft:copper ingot, Minecraft:gold ingot, Minecraft:netherite ingot, Minecraft:emerald, Minecraft:redstone dust, Minecraft:lapis lazuli, Minecraft:amethyst shard, Minecraft:nether quartz, Minecraft:diamond, or Minecraft:resin brick).
These trims have no effect on the gameplay or strength of the armor.
