A desert is an expansive arid Minecraft:biome mainly consisting of Minecraft:sand. It is notable for its many structures such as Minecraft:desert pyramids and Minecraft:villages, and its dangerous Minecraft:hostile mob variants.

Generation

Deserts are uncommon, making up around 3% of the Overworld by area. However, they tend to be large when they do occur.

Deserts generate in areas with very high temperatures and are more likely to generate in areas with medium to high erosion values. They can generate in lower erosions, but usually as a separation between a Minecraft:badlands biome and the Minecraft:oceans with Minecraft:stony shores.

Deserts are often found bordering all badlands variants or Minecraft:mangrove swamps. Other biomes they can border include all Minecraft:jungles, Minecraft:savannas, Minecraft:windswept savannas, Minecraft:plains and Minecraft:forests.

In coastal areas, deserts border Minecraft:warm oceans. Unlike most biomes, they do not generate Minecraft:beach biomes along the coastline, though Minecraft:stony shores do generate if erosion is low. Minecraft:Rivers are common, and tend to have less water and more dry grassland, with Minecraft:oak trees.

At high humidity values, Minecraft:lush caves can sometimes generate underneath deserts, with easily spottable Minecraft:azalea trees on the surface.

Description

The surface is made entirely of Minecraft:sand, with Minecraft:sandstone generating underneath the sand. The terrain is usually flat, but with occasional hills and cliffs.

Among the animals that can spawn in the desert, only Minecraft:rabbits and Minecraft:camels spawn in the wild, while Minecraft:villagers, Minecraft:cats, and farm animals appear in the common desert Minecraft:villages.

Minecraft:Cacti and Minecraft:dead bushes generate frequently across the landscape, with cacti sometimes featuring a Minecraft:cactus flower on top of them. Minecraft:Sugar cane generates more commonly along water which is equally common to other flatland biomes. Unique Minecraft:desert wells generate occasionally with water as well as Minecraft:desert pyramids and Minecraft:pillager outposts. Deserts are one of the only biomes where Minecraft:fossils generate underground.

This large amount of structures makes desert a valuable source of treasure loot. In contrast, the desert is also one of the most dangerous biomes because of its hostile mob variants. Minecraft:Husks and Minecraft:parched spawn at nighttime or during dry Minecraft:thunderstorms, sometimes on Minecraft:jockey mounts or Minecraft:camel husks. These mobs do not despawn during the daytime.

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, deserts have unique atmospherics, the sky is tinted turquoise-green at daytime and much brighter during the night. Moonlight is much more vibrant blue than in any other biome. Deserts use the warmest color grading temperature of all biomes, tinting everything yellow/orange.
