This guide is a simplified overview of all the changes in the Minecraft:Village & Pillage update (Template:JE 1.14.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with Minecraft:Update Aquatic (Java Edition 1.13.x releases).

Mobs

New

Minecraft:Brown mooshrooms

Give the player Minecraft:suspicious stew when fed a flower and then milked with a bowl.
Minecraft:Cats Template:Animate
  • Stray cats can be found wandering in villages.
  • A single stray black cat can be found inside Minecraft:witch huts.
Minecraft:Foxes Template:Animate

Template:Xp (when killed by a Minecraft:player or tamed Minecraft:wolf)
  • Wolves and polar bears are aggressive toward foxes.
  • Baby foxes born by breeding two adult foxes are loyal toward the player.
  • Trusting foxes can attack the player if their trusted player is damaged.
  • Can eat any food item, and can pick up any item in its mouth.
  • Sleep during the day and are active at night.
Minecraft:Pandas

Spawn in Minecraft:bamboo forest biomes.
  • Can spawn with either an aggressive, lazy, playful, weak or worried personality.
  • Eat Minecraft:bamboo, and can be bred if there is at least eight bamboo blocks within five blocks of each panda.
  • Pick up and eat Minecraft:cake that is thrown to them.
Minecraft:Pillagers

Pillagers that spawn with an Minecraft:ominous banner on their head are known as Minecraft:raid captains. When a player kills a raid captain, they receive the Minecraft:Bad Omen effect.
Minecraft:Ravagers

Spawn as part of Minecraft:raids. Destroy leaves and all crops it comes in contact with, except for melon and pumpkin stems.
Minecraft:Trader llamas Template:Animate Spawn in the world with Minecraft:wandering traders. Are hostile toward all zombie variants and Minecraft:illagers. They also become hostile toward mobs and players that attack the wandering trader they are leashed to.
Minecraft:Wandering traders

Spawn randomly in the world within a 48 block radius of the player. Have a chance of dropping a Minecraft:milk bucket or Minecraft:potion of Invisibility if they are holding it when killed.
  • Randomly spawn in the world with two Minecraft:trader llamas.
  • Only one exists in the world at any time. New wandering traders do not spawn until an existing wandering trader despawns.
  • At the night (or when light level is 7 and below) wandering traders drink potion of invisibility. When light level is above 7, they drink bucket of milk and cancel any effects they have.

Minecraft:Villagers Template:Animate
  • Now have biome specific skins.
    • Skins now reflect their unique profession.
    • Can now change their profession according to an available nearby job site block.
      • Once a villager has leveled up, it cannot change their profession.
    • Now have a new profession, the mason.
  • Trading has been overhauled.
    • Now have levels and require experience to unlock the next tier of trades; level 1 is novice, level 2 is apprentice, level 3 is journeyman, level 4 is expert, and level 5 is master.
    • Cannot restock trades instantly anymore, however, they can restock up to two times per day at their job site block.
    • Can now increase/decrease their trade prices.
    • Hold items in their hands to the player when the player holds an item that the villager has a trade offer for.
  • Now sleep in beds at night.
  • Now have schedules. Their schedule includes working, gathering, as well as sleeping in beds at night.
  • Now gossip at meeting points during their schedule. There are six types of gossip: Template:Code, each gossip has an effect on the village, such as spawning in an iron golem in the village center, or increasing/lowering trade prices for the player.
  • When bells are rung or when a raid is happening, villagers retreat into their houses.
    • Ring bells during raids themselves to alert other villagers.
    • Sweat during raids.
    • When a raid is successfully cleared, villagers celebrate by setting off Minecraft:firework rockets, and cheering.
  • When a player has the Minecraft:Hero of the Village effect applied, villagers gift the player various different items, as well as decrease their trade prices.

  • Can now spawn as part of a Minecraft:raid.
    • Heal raid members during attacks with Healing potions.

Minecraft:Lily of the valley

Found in Minecraft:forest biomes. Any Can be used to craft suspicious stew with the Minecraft:Poison effect.
Minecraft:Wither rose

Drops from mobs killed by a Minecraft:wither. Any
  • Can be used to craft suspicious stew with the Wither effect.
  • Any mob standing on a wither rose is inflicted with one second of the Wither effect for as long as they continue to touch it.
Minecraft:Sweet berry bushes Template:Animate Any
  • Drop sweet berries by Template:Control or when broken, dropping 1-2 berries at age three, and 2-3 berries at age four.
  • Slow players while standing in them at age one, as well as deal damage to players while moving at age two and above. Standing still while in sweet berry bushes deal no damage.
Minecraft:Barrel

  • Found around and in fisher cottages in villages.
Axe
  • A storage block similar to Minecraft:chests, with twenty-seven inventory spaces.
  • The main difference between barrels and chests is that barrels can be opened from any side, regardless of orientation or whether there's a solid block on top.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the fisherman profession when near a barrel that hasn't been taken by another.
Minecraft:Blast furnace

  • Found in villages.
Pickaxe
  • Used to smelt ores, as well as smeltable tools and armor. The blast furnace smelts items at twice the speed of a Minecraft:furnace.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the armorer profession when near a blast furnace that hasn't been taken by another.

  • Used to cook food items twice as fast as a regular furnace.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the butcher profession when near a smoker that hasn't been taken by another.

Minecraft:Cartography table

  • Used for cloning, expanding, and zooming out maps.
  • They can also be used to lock maps, by using Minecraft:glass panes, making them no longer able to update.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the cartographer profession when near a cartography table that hasn't been taken by another.

  • Allows multiple players to read the same book at the same time.
  • Lecterns holding a book also output a redstone pulse when a page is turned.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the librarian profession when near a lectern that hasn't been taken by another.
Minecraft:Grindstone

Template:Crafting

  • Generates as part of the blacksmith structure in villages.
Pickaxe
  • Used to repair items and tools by combining two items or tools of the same type together. This removes all enchantments apart from Minecraft:curses.
  • A single item can be used in the grindstone to remove all enchantments from it apart from curses.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the weaponsmith profession when near a grindstone that hasn't been taken by another.
Minecraft:Stonecutter

  • Used to craft stone related blocks, such as walls, stairs, or slabs.
  • Unemployed villagers take on the mason profession when near a stonecutter that hasn't been taken by another.
Minecraft:Bell

  • Generate in village centers.
  • Can be purchased from either apprentice-level armorer, toolsmith or weaponsmith villagers for 36 emeralds each.
Pickaxe
  • Used to alert nearby villagers to return to their houses.
  • Resonate and highlight nearby raiders during a raid.
  • Villagers ring the bell during raids to alert other villagers.

  • Previously the recipe used all nether bricks, this is now changed to take both nether brick and nether bricks to avoid conflict with the recipe for Minecraft:Nether Brick Walls.
Minecraft:Pressure plates Template:Animate Can now be placed on Minecraft:iron bars and Minecraft:glass panes.
Minecraft:Signs

  • The color of text on signs can be changed with dye now.
  • All original signs have been changed to oak signs.
  • Now support editing anywhere on the sign, without having to backspace to the place where the edit is to be made.

All Minecraft:slabs and Minecraft:stairs Now have directional opacity, meaning sides that are not completely solid do not block light.

  • The effect is hidden after suspicious stew is crafted, making it impossible to tell ones with negative effect from ones with positive effects.

Biomes

Minecraft:Bamboo jungle

Generate in large patches within regular jungles. Trees are much less dense in this variant than in the main jungle, comparable to the Minecraft:jungle edge, but boasts countless amounts of Minecraft:bamboo across its landscape. Minecraft:Podzol generates on the jungle floor in this biome. It is home to all jungle mobs, including Minecraft:pandas, which are exclusive to this biome. Minecraft:Jungle pyramids
Minecraft:Bamboo jungle hills

Similar to the bamboo jungle, though with steeper terrain just like the regular jungle hills variant. Large amounts of bamboo cover the landscape, and patches of podzol replace Minecraft:grass blocks. Jungle pyramids

Minecraft:Raid Triggered when a player with the Minecraft:Bad Omen effect enters a village. During a raid a combination of pillagers, vindicators, evokers, witches, and ravagers spawn around a village. The combination depends on the level of the bad omen effect. A boss bar at the top of the screen shows the number of raid enemies still alive within the village.

Given to the player when they kill the leader of an Minecraft:illager patrol or Minecraft:raid captain. If the player enters a village while having the Bad Omen effect a Minecraft:raid is triggered.
Minecraft:Hero of the Village

Given to the player after they have successfully defended the village from a raid. If the player kills all of the illagers during the raid, the player receives the Hero of the Village effect. This effect lasts for 2 in-game days.

Enchantments

New

Minecraft:Multishot I Template:ItemSprite None Piercing Fires three arrows while consuming one. If an arrow hits, the other two vanish.
Minecraft:Piercing IV Template:ItemSprite None Multishot Allows arrows to pass through as many entities as the enchantment level.
Minecraft:Quick Charge III Template:ItemSprite None None Speeds up the charging of the crossbow.

Between snapshot 19w02a (13th for Java Edition 1.14) and 1.14.3 Pre-Release 1 (including both bounds) all different type Protection enchantments [Minecraft:Protection, Minecraft:Projectile Protection, Minecraft:Fire Protection, and Minecraft:Blast Protection] were not mutually exclusive. It means that any peace of armor could have them all at once (added with anvil). Obtained this way armor saves all its properties even after 1.14 Pre-Release 2 when Protection enchantments became mutually exclusive again.

Structures

Minecraft:Pillager outpost

Can generate in any biome a village can generate in. The structure contains one chest at the top. Can have a combination of smaller structures surrounding it, these structures include a cage, targets, logs, and a tent.
Snowy Minecraft:villages

Can generate in Minecraft:snowy tundra biomes. Many different buildings can include chests that contain loot based on the snowy tundra. A variant of the village, designed specifically for Minecraft:snowy tundra biomes. It is the only place where Minecraft:lanterns can naturally generate. The structures are made up of various Minecraft:spruce wood and Minecraft:stripped logs. Some buildings resemble igloos and are constructed from either Minecraft:snow, Minecraft:ice or Minecraft:blue ice.
