20w09a is the fourth Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.16, released on February 26, 2020,<ref name="20w09a">Template:Snap</ref> which adds Minecraft:crying obsidian and Minecraft:target blocks and renames Minecraft:zombie pigmen, among other changes.
Additions
Blocks

- Is only decorative for now, but will have uses in the future.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>
- Can be obtained by Minecraft:bartering with Minecraft:piglins.
- Has a Minecraft:light level of 10.
- Emits purple particles.
- Can be moved by Minecraft:pistons.

- Minecraft:Redstone component that can be activated by shooting Minecraft:projectiles into it.
- The closer to the center the projectile hits on one of its faces, the stronger the redstone signal.
- Can be Minecraft:crafted using a Minecraft:hay bale and 4 Minecraft:redstone dust pieces.
Gameplay
- Added new "Bullseye" advancement.
- To complete this advancement, the Minecraft:player has to shoot a projectile into the center of one face of a Minecraft:target block.
- Found in the "Adventure" tab.
- The recipes for crimson and warped Minecraft:signs have been added to the recipe book and are unlocked by having the respective Minecraft:planks.
- Added new
climbableblock tag.- Includes Minecraft:ladders, Minecraft:vines, Minecraft:scaffolding, and weeping vines.
- Used in Minecraft:mob pathfinding and to determine what blocks the player can climb.
- Added new
impact_projectilesMinecraft:entity tag.- Includes the arrows tag, Minecraft:snowballs, Minecraft:fireballs, Minecraft:small fireballs, Minecraft:eggs, Minecraft:tridents, Minecraft:dragon fireballs, and wither skulls.
- Used to determine what entities break Minecraft:chorus flowers when hit.
General
- Added three particles for Minecraft:crying obsidian: Template:Cd.

- Now decays into Minecraft:netherrack when an Minecraft:opaque block is placed on top of it.
Crimson and Minecraft:warped roots
- Can now be placed into Minecraft:flower pots.
- Warped roots now have the replaceable plant Minecraft:material.
- Can now be Minecraft:crafted.
- Made obtainable in Survival mode.
- Now pushes entities.
- Renamed to "Fungus".
- Can now be planted in Minecraft:flower pots.
- Can now only be grown in Minecraft:huge fungi when on the same type of Minecraft:nylium.
- Now have the replaceable plant Minecraft:material.
- Changed the top texture.
Stripped crimson and warped stems
- Changed the top texture.
- Are now climbable.
- Now have the replaceable plant Minecraft:material.

- Changed their textures slightly, fixing some texture inconsistencies.
- Can now break Minecraft:nether wart blocks and Minecraft:warped wart blocks quickly.
- Can now break Minecraft:soul soil quickly.
Mobs
- Slightly tweaked the texture. Some colors were tweaked and transparent pixels were removed.
- Now have an
IsImmuneToZombificationdata value that prevents them from zombifying in the Minecraft:Overworld. - Baby piglins now ride on the back of baby hoglins.
Minecraft:Skeleton horses and Minecraft:zombie horses
- Can now be leashed.
- Has been renamed from "Zombie Pigman".
- Updated Minecraft:model and texture.
- The texture used is the same texture added in Minecraft:20w07a.
- Sound effects got reimplemented.
Non-mob entities
- Now checks dismount position height against Minecraft:entity height.
Gameplay
- Bartering loot has been restructured to be more appealing to survival Minecraft:players.<ref name="20w09a"/>
- The new loot for bartering consists of:
- Common barters (Template:Frac chance or about 8.85%): 6–10 Minecraft:shroomlight, 1 Minecraft:fire charge, 8–16 Minecraft:gravel, 4–10 Minecraft:leather, 4–10 Minecraft:warped fungus, 4–16 Minecraft:nether brick, 1 Minecraft:obsidian, or 1–3 Minecraft:crying obsidian.
- Uncommon barters (Template:Frac chance or about 4.42%): 8–16 Minecraft:nether quartz, 5–12 Minecraft:glowstone dust, 2–6 Minecraft:magma cream, 4–8 Minecraft:ender pearl, or 8–24 Minecraft:string.
- Rare barters (Template:Frac chance or about 2.21%): 1 Minecraft:warped nylium, 1 Template:EffectLink Minecraft:potion or 1 Template:EffectLink Minecraft:splash potion.
- Very rare barter (Template:Frac chance or about 0.44%): 1 Minecraft:netherite hoe.
- In this snapshot, all item amounts are 1–5 due to a bug.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
- Piglins now inspect gold ingots first before throwing out the item they choose to barter for the player if they're still around.
- Minecraft:Stained glass pane recipes now only unlock when the player has the same color of Minecraft:stained glass in their Minecraft:inventory.
block.portal.travelandblock.portal.triggersounds are now part of the "ambient/environment" sound category adjustable in Minecraft:options.- Shearing sound category was changed from "friendly creatures" to "players" for players using shears and "blocks" for dispenser using shears.
- Added potted Minecraft:crimson fungus, Minecraft:warped fungus, Minecraft:crimson roots, and Minecraft:warped roots to the
flower_potsblock tag.
General
Nether fog
- Color now transitions smoothly between Minecraft:biomes.
The Minecraft:Nether
- Changed the ambient lighting in the Nether, it is now lighter and more similar to Template:BE.
Textures
- Removed duplicate and unused textures for stripped warped logs.
