Alpha v1.2.0, also known as the Minecraft:Halloween Update, is a major update to Template:JE. It was released with server 0.2.2 on October 30, 2010,<ref>Template:TWON</ref> at 20:53 UTC.<ref>#minecraft.20101030.full.log – Minecraft IRC logs. "[10/30/2010 4:53:43 PM] <Notch> I just uploaded the halloween update client". [UTC−4]</ref> It primarily added Minecraft:the Nether along with new Nether-exclusive mobs and blocks. It also added Minecraft:fishing, a new terrain generator, and other changes and fixes.
Alpha v1.2.0 was re-uploaded immediately after release to prevent the game still saying "do not distribute" in the Minecraft:main menu.<ref name="do-not-distribute">#minecraft.20101030.full.log – Minecraft IRC logs. "[10/30/2010 4:55:39 PM] <Notch> Awww, I forgot to fix the title screen", "[10/30/2010 4:55:43 PM] <Notch> it still says do not distribute". [UTC–4]</ref>
This version is listed in the Minecraft:launcher, but instead downloads Minecraft:Alpha v1.2.0_02.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>

Non-mob entities
File:Snowball JE1 BE1.png Ghast fireball
- It is a projectile from a Minecraft:ghast.
- It has a straight trajectory unaffected by gravity and a theoretically infinite range.
- It creates an Minecraft:explosion upon impact with an entity or block, setting Minecraft:fire to nearby blocks.
- It uses the same snowball texture.
World generation
- New terrain generator, featuring 12 new Minecraft:biomes:
- A warm biome consisting of Minecraft:sand and Minecraft:cacti. No Minecraft:trees generate.
- A biome with many Minecraft:trees.
- A biome found in Minecraft:the Nether. Consists of Minecraft:netherrack and Minecraft:soul sand.
- To get there, you'll have to build an Minecraft:obsidian portal frame and set it on fire in the center File:Nether portal.gif.
- One block passed in this dimension is equal to eight blocks passed in the Minecraft:Overworld.
- Minecraft:Water cannot be placed here.
- Unused biome. Same as the Minecraft:desert, except the ground is covered in Minecraft:snow and no cacti generate.
- Flat, open biome with only the occasional Minecraft:tree.
- Very wet forested biome, with a 1 in 3 chance of Minecraft:trees being big, rather than 1 in 10 in all other biomes.
- Mostly flat biome with occasional Minecraft:trees. Only difference from the Minecraft:plains biome is the Minecraft:grass color.
- Very similar to the Minecraft:forest, with the only difference being a lower-density canopy.
- Very similar to Minecraft:plains, with the only difference being the Minecraft:grass color.
- Indentical to Shrubland, with only a different Minecraft:grass color and the occasional patch of Minecraft:snow.
- Snowy forested biome.
- A cold biome with Minecraft:snow, Minecraft:ice, and very few Minecraft:trees.
Gameplay
- Gives function to the Minecraft:fishing rod.
- Each tick when a fishing bobber is in water, it has a Template:Frac chance of catching a fish.
- Currently the only item that can be obtained through fishing is Minecraft:raw fish.

- Fake chunks spawn at 32,000,000 blocks instead of the void.

- Trees, flowers, grass, and dungeons stop generating beyond this point.
Gameplay
- Now creates a red glow at the horizon.
- Color is now dependent on temperature/humidity values.
- Pressing Template:Key hides the HUD and the view-model from the person's view. In third person mode, pressing Template:Key creates a view looking back at the player's own face.
- The "ough" sound no longer plays when the player takes damage.
General

- Due to the removal of winter mode and therefore snow, it no longer becomes visually distorted at great heights.
