The four unused audio loops from Minecraft:C418's early Java Edition sound tests existed in Xbox 360 Editions <code>resident.xwb</code> sound bank file as early as Minecraft:1.66.0033.0 until removed in Minecraft:TU57's audio update from XWB to Bink Audio and in the other versions of LCE in the <code>Minecraft.msscmp</code> sound bank file until removed in Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.38, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.38, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition CU36, Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.38, and Minecraft:Wii U Edition Patch 15. These sounds were removed despite other legacy Java Edition sound effects remaining until the discontinuation of LCE. It was never included in Minecraft:Nintendo Switch Edition. The waterfall loop was extremely compressed, perhaps erroneously, in the sound banks for Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition, and Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition until Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.21, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.21, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition CU18, and Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.21. Placeholder textures | Placeholder textures
Several | Several textures found in <samp>terrain.png</samp> and <samp>items.png</samp> are, by a technicality, unused due to animated textures being used for their tiles. Technically these textures are used while loading the animated textures, but disappear nearly instantaneously due to the simple nature of most animations in the game. However, they can appear for a noticeable amount of time if the animation is quite large, and this is why the first frame of the animations are usually the ones used on the terrain atlas. If the animated textures are removed, these textures are displayed as any other tile on the atlas would be. By extension, this makes any tile on the atlases eligible for an animated texture, as long as the correct Minecraft:resource identifier is provided in the file path.

<samp>terrain.png</samp> has an unused tile which was intended to be used in Minecraft:texture packs as a non-tinted overlay for Minecraft:Shulker Boxes because LCE Minecraft:Shulkers have tinted layers, unlike in other editions. The Shulker Box tile present is used for the particles that appear when breaking a block. The intended use of the unused tile can be found in the Norse Mythology Mash-Up Pack's files where the previously assumed empty space on <samp>terrain.png</samp> is filled by the top of the Shulker Box texture. However, the programmers erroneously did not put the tile into the game and the tile does not have a valid resource location. This results in a strange phenomenon in the Norse Mythology Pack where the particles of a broken Shulker Box appears to only be of the colored markings on the top of the Shulker Box, but not of the box itself.

Since the beginning of Minecraft:Minecraft's development, numerous features have been added that are inaccessible and have no actual use. Minecraft:Legacy Console Edition contains a wide variety of such features, namely remnants from other editions, leftover debug material utilized during development and other scrapped elements.
Blocks
Command blocks
Template:Main All three variants of the command block are obtainable solely via external inventory editors, as opposed to Minecraft:Java Edition and Minecraft:Bedrock Edition, where command blocks are easily accessible through Minecraft:cheats. They are completely stripped from any in-game functionality, lacking a corresponding Minecraft:GUI and the ability to run Minecraft:commands. The game still calls on and applies the textures accordingly which seems to imply command blocks were functional in development builds of the game and used by Minecraft:4J Studios. Several functions and NBT data relating to opening and using command blocks as well as for running many different types of commands are also present in the game data.
Equally inoperative conditional variants are acquired by incrementing a command block's data value.
The game's localization data contains an unused, possibly related chat message for Minecraft:players executing commands. The blocks' descriptions state "Used to execute commands."
-
Impulse command block
-
Chain command block
-
Repeating command block
Barrier
Template:Main A barrier is a solid and invisible block, only obtainable through inventory editing. It mostly behaves like its Template:JE counterpart, but it casts shadows like a normal block, making it moderately visible as a result. 4J Studios utilized barriers in official world templates, such as the Minecraft:Update Aquatic tutorial world and in various Mini game maps including Shrunk glide track. The barrier blocks were later removed from the Update Aquatic tutorial world in Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition TU73, Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.82, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.83, Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.82, and Minecraft:Wii U Edition Patch 42.
Its description states "An invisible but solid block."
Wood
Template:Main A block with the Minecraft:log's bark texture on all six sides is referred to as wood. They have multiple variants, corresponding to each wood type and their stripped forms. They are broken with an Minecraft:axe. Unlike in modern editions of the game, they can not be crafted into Minecraft:planks. Nor is wood Minecraft:flammable despite its appearance, although it does catch Minecraft:fire from Minecraft:lava. Minecraft:Furnaces accept wood as Minecraft:fuel.
All variants of wood were later added as obtainable blocks in both Minecraft:Creative and Minecraft:Survival in Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.90, it being the only version of Legacy Console Edition to receive the Minecraft:Village & Pillage update.
Their descriptions state "Chopped using an axe, and can be crafted into planks or used as a fuel."
Petrified Oak Slab
Template:Main The original wooden slab was merely another variant of a stone slab. Thus, it was not flammable and had to be broken with a pickaxe, in spite of being optically identical to a standard oak slab. The Spruce, Birch, and Jungle wooden slab variants added in Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition TU9 did not have this behavior and were not a variant of the stone slab.
This remained the case until Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition TU17 and Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.07, when the petrified oak slab was finally replaced with the proper wooden oak slab in the Minecraft:crafting and Minecraft:creative inventory menus, making it inaccessible through normal means. However, old wooden slabs were not converted upon updating a Minecraft:world, and this remained the case until the discontinuation of Template:LCE. It is still possible to obtain a petrified oak slab by breaking one in worlds made before Minecraft:TU17 and Minecraft:1.07.
Its description states "Used for making long staircases. Two slabs placed on top of each other will create a normal-sized double slab block."
Unused block entity data
| Block Entity | Tag | Description | Notes |

| Template:BlockLink | Template:Nbt | Non-functional, possibly a remnant from custom player heads. | Present on all heads with an empty value by default. |
| Template:BlockLink | Template:Nbt | Specifies the name of the held item needed to open the box. When trying to open it without the key, the sound of a Minecraft:wooden door closing is played and a chat message containing the name of the container, or blank if a custom one isn't provided, is displayed for the player attempting to open it. | |
| Template:BlockLink | Template:Nbt | When set to 1, every line of the sign reads "Censored". The actual text strings are still stored in the sign's data. | Present on all signs with value 0 by default. |
Items
debug_fourj_item
Template:Main
debug_fourj_item has the texture of a barrier, no display name nor description. As its ID suggests, it was utilized during development for debugging purposes. When used on a Minecraft:mob, it sets that mob to be Minecraft:persistent. Oddly, the Minecraft:item texture ID barrier only applies to this item, as the actual barrier uses the block texture ID barrier.
Minecart with command block
Template:Main A minecart with command block only exists in its item form. Trying to place one down will summon a regular Minecraft:minecart instead. According to Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, its intended purpose was to execute commands upon interacting with an activator rail.
The game's localization data contains the unused description for this item, which states "Used to execute commands on the move!"
Spectral arrow
Template:Main Since the Legacy Console never received combat features of the Minecraft:Combat Update, the spectral arrow ultimately went unused. It can be shot using a Minecraft:bow and even had its particle trail ported over. Due to the absence of a functional Minecraft:Glowing effect, it acts identically to a normal arrow. Its description states "Gives the victim a glowing outline that can be seen through blocks."
Shield
Template:Main Code for the shield is present in the game data, but needs to be assigned an item form manually to obtain it in-game. Despite having a model present in the game's code, there is no model or texture displayed, nor a display name and description. It functions like intended, absorbing most of the damage dealt to the player. The shield was later added properly in PlayStation 4 Edition 1.90.
Tattered written book
The "Tattered" fourth generation for Minecraft:written books is not obtainable in standard gameplay. It can only be acquired by setting the Template:Nbt tag of a written book to 3.

Entities
Giant
Template:Main A giant is a 12 block tall Minecraft:hostile mob carried over from Java Edition. Due to its lack of Minecraft:AI, it will not move unless hit by a player and is never actually aggravated towards them. A giant can pick up dropped items and equip gear. It was intended to resemble a zombie, ultimately however only uses its model but not its texture file, applying arrows.png instead. It has Template:Health Minecraft:health points and drops 5 Minecraft:experience points in addition to any equipped items upon Minecraft:death.
The Killer Bunny
Template:Main The killer bunny is a hostile variant of the Minecraft:rabbit, summoned by setting a rabbit's Template:Nbt tag to 99. In-game, it will automatically be given the Minecraft:custom name "entity.KillerBunny.name". It will not despawn when the difficulty is set to Minecraft:peaceful. It attacks nearby players, dealing Template:Health damage on Minecraft:easy, Template:Health on Minecraft:normal and Template:Health on Minecraft:hard difficulty. A killer bunny becomes passive when it is lured by a player with a Minecraft:carrot in their hand. It has Template:Health health points and the same Minecraft:drops as normal rabbits.
Its description states "A hostile rabbit that will attack you if you get too close! May drop a rabbit hide or a rabbit's foot when killed."
Illusioner
Template:MainAn illusioner is an unused Minecraft:illager from Java Edition. An illusioner attacks players, Minecraft:iron golems and Minecraft:villagers with a bow once manually equipped with one. When lacking its weapon, it becomes passive. It creates four fake duplicates when attacking, while being invisible itself. The duplicates vanish as soon as the real illusioner's Minecraft:Invisibility effect fades. It can also cast Minecraft:Blindness for 20 seconds on its victim. An illusioner has Template:Health health points and can drop its bow as well as other equipped items along with 5 experience points.
Its description states "Illusioners are hostile. They attack with a bow, and use magic to confuse!"

Status effects
Glowing
Template:Main Glowing is an unused status effect that lacks functionality. It is intended to be inflicted on players or mobs hit by spectral arrows and give its victim a glowing outline that is seen through blocks.
Saturation
Template:Main Saturation is another non-functional status effect, intended to instantly replenish empty hunger points in the Minecraft:hunger bar. Unlike the other unused effects, it has no effect icon.
Blindness
Template:Main Blindness impairs the player's vision down to a four block radius, engulfing the rest in a thick black fog. It prevents Minecraft:sprinting and dealing Minecraft:critical hits. The aforementioned illusioner is capable of inflicting this effect.
Health Boost
Template:Main Health Boost increases the maximum health points by four per level. The additional health is not visible in the player's Minecraft:health bar, whereas the health bars of ridden mobs with the effect do show it. It shares Minecraft:Absorption's effect icon and functions similarly, with the difference of having to regenerate the added health points manually. When the effect fades, the screen jolts as if taking damage.
Bad Luck
Template:Main
Bad Luck is a status effect that contrasts Minecraft:Luck. Whereas the latter is leastwise obtainable from the Creative inventory, Bad Luck goes unused entirely. It subtracts the effect level from the player's luck Minecraft:attribute, decreasing the chances of getting high-quality loot when Minecraft:fishing.
Gameplay
Hardcore mode
Template:Main Remnants of Java Edition's Hardcore mode are still present in the game data. The mode can be accessed by externally modifying the world data, though any leftover functionality is sparse. Besides changing the difficulty to Hard, the mode has no other effects. The player's health bar remains normal and players can still respawn after death.
Build Off
Template:MainBuild Off was a planned mini game similar to "Build Battle" on Java Edition and Bedrock Edition Minecraft:servers. Despite being cancelled before Legacy Console Edition was discontinued, the game's code contains multiple references to the scrapped mode. Calls for music cues as well as leaderboard functions also exist in the game data. It is implied that Minecraft:texture pack support for the mode was planned as texture packs have the ability to overridde the music cues for it.
Music
Build Off Music Track List
A music track list, called "categories" in Template:JE and Template:BE, is programmed for the Build Off mini game and is completely functional if set to play. The track list calls for MG04_01.binka, which does not exist in any version of any edition, and the six vanilla Minecraft:Creative Mode tracks.
Unused Texture Pack Music Track Lists
Similar to other editions, Minecraft:texture packs have support to override the music cues of all of the vanilla track lists, but not all of them were utilized for packs. The music overrides for Minecraft:Creative Mode, the Minecraft:Tumble mini game, despite using texture packs for its festive arenas, and the aforementioned Build Off mini game are not used in any pack but are completely functional.
Unused Music
EgyptianOverworld9.binka is present in the Egyptian Mythology Mash-Up Pack but erroneously was not defined in the music cues and does not play in the pack. This track is included as track 10 on the Minecraft: Egyptian Mythology Soundtrack titled "Renenutet & Meshkenet (Interlude)".

Sound loops
The four unused audio loops from Minecraft:C418's early Java Edition sound tests existed in Xbox 360 Edition's resident.xwb sound bank file as early as Minecraft:1.66.0033.0 until removed in Minecraft:TU57's audio update from XWB to Bink Audio and in the other versions of Template:LCE in the Minecraft.msscmp sound bank file until removed in Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.38, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.38, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition CU36, Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.38, and Minecraft:Wii U Edition Patch 15. These sounds were removed despite other legacy Java Edition sound effects remaining until the discontinuation of Template:LCE. It was never included in Minecraft:Nintendo Switch Edition. The waterfall loop was extremely compressed, perhaps erroneously, in the sound banks for Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition, and Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition until Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.21, Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.21, Minecraft:Xbox One Edition CU18, and Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.21. It appeared already fixed in Minecraft:Wii U Edition Patch 1.

Graphics
Blocks and items
Structure block textures
Minecraft:terrain.png contains unused textures for structure blocks. These texture resources are called on and used by the game for the structure block which implies that structure blocks were used in development builds of the game. There are also several functions relating to opening and using structure blocks in the game data.
Structure void
The texture for the structure void is impossible to see in the retail version of the game as the Structure Void itself is not obtainable. Structure voids are present in all versions of Template:LCE and function to Template:JE if loaded in a Minecraft:structure file.
Duplicate stems
Duplicate stem textures in terrain.png are left over. This was almost certainly to split the textures used by melon stems and pumpkin stems, similar to how birch and oak Minecraft:leaves were split on the atlas, although it's not clear which it was meant to be.
Placeholder textures
Several textures found in terrain.png and items.png are, by a technicality, unused due to animated textures being used for their tiles.
Unused Shulker Box Overlay Tile
terrain.png has an unused tile which was intended to be used in Minecraft:texture packs as a non-tinted overlay for Minecraft:Shulker Boxes because Template:LCE Minecraft:Shulkers have tinted layers, unlike in other editions. The Shulker Box tile present is used for the particles that appear when breaking a block. The intended use of the unused tile can be found in the Norse Mythology Mash-Up Pack's files where the previously assumed empty space on terrain.png is filled by the top of the Shulker Box texture.
Particles
Old Bubble
Sprite for bubbles that went unused after Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition TU69/Minecraft:PlayStation 3 Edition 1.76/Minecraft:PlayStation Vita Edition 1.76/Minecraft:Wii U Edition Patch 38. Bubbles instead use a tinted grayscale used in Template:BE. The old sprite is still used in Minecraft:Xbox One Edition, Minecraft:Playstation 4 Edition, and Minecraft:Nintendo Switch Edition.
Angry villager
Unused particle of an angry Minecraft:villager.
Bubble pop
width=32x32 width=32x32 width=32x32 width=32x32 width=32x32
Unused textures for bubbles popping, originally intended to appear at the top of Minecraft:bubble columns.

Unused Minecraft:explosion particles from Bedrock Edition and Minecraft:Education Edition. On those editions, they appear when shooting pictures with a Minecraft:camera.
Map icons
Target point
Unused map icon of a red triangle.
Other
Minecraft icon
The user interface assets contain numerous unutilized duplicates of the same Minecraft icon. Such are only seen when world icons fail to load, although those are sourced from a separate standalone file.
Checkbox texture
Unused textures of a selected checkbox can sometimes be found in addition to the aforementioned Minecraft icons.
PS3 Marketing Guide Graphic
File:Unused PS3 layout template (Colors reversed).png
This graphic is found in DebugUIMarketingGuide720 in Minecraft:PS3 Edition and Minecraft:Wii U Edition and was designed to help artists create UI and marketing material for the game. The option to display this graphic is referenced in the debug menu data of other editions with the text "Show Marketing Guide". It is also referenced in but missing from the same files in Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition.
Xbox One Marketing Guide Graphic
File:XboxOneMarketingGuide.png
A similar graphic to PS3MarketingGuide, this graphic is found in DebugUIMarketingGuide1080.swf in old versions of Minecraft:PS4 Edition and Minecraft:Xbox One Edition, and is referenced in but missing from the DebugUIMarketingGuide1080.fui in later versions of Minecraft:PS4 Edition and Minecraft:Xbox One Edition.
Update Aquatic graphic
The Update Aquatic artwork is shown in the dialog box used to access the store page for Bedrock Edition on Minecraft:Xbox One Edition and Minecraft:Nintendo Switch Edition since Legacy Console Edition was discontinued. However, it was also left in the game files of old-gen editions which did not receive Bedrock Edition and thus do not utilize this graphic.
Old skin select menu
Numerous textures of the old character skin selector are still present in the game files.
Alliance icon
During the development of Battle, teams were planned and partially worked on. Remnants of the scrapped feature are this graphic, leftover game rule data and unused text strings.

Grass block render
This render of a grass block is used in Minecraft:Wii U Edition on the Game Pad in TV Mode but is unused in other editions of the game.
Attack cooldown
width=32x32 width=32x32 width=8x8 width=32x32 width=32x32
Unused textures for the attack cooldown from Java Edition.
Enchantment slot
The slot for applying enchantments to an item in the enchanting table used to have a respective icon. Albeit removed in-game later for unknown reasons, its textures remained.
Mini game placeholder
Minecraft:Wii U Edition contains an early placeholder image that would have been displayed when selecting DLC for Battle. Additionally, it reveals an early name for said mini game.
Altered unused textures
Various unused textures and textures utilized by unused features are altered by texture packs, despite not being seen in-game in those environments.
Worlds
Battle map areas
Crucible
The large variant hides a second Minecraft:lava sea beneath the normally accessible layer of lava. Along with numerous leftover cages and an early location for the bottom high-value Minecraft:chest, both of which are also found underground, it hints at the possibility that the arena's floor originally extended deeper.
Cove
Three copies of the same Minecraft:cave system are located in the immediate vicinity of the large variant's arena, originally planned to be an accessible section of the map. It is unfinished, partially decorated and would have seemingly contained a single loot chest. Only one copy actually connects to the main arena and is somewhat visible through a set of iron bars positioned to the large skull's right.
Cavern
In the large variant, an unseen Minecraft:village and a structure consisting of mossy stone bricks can be found next to the cavern's opening. An area with various utility blocks is located further away. It seems to be a testing area used by the developers to presumably test the interaction privileges in Battle.
Temple
An entire underground section has been cut from the large variant. It is located right below the temple and would have been accessible through descending stairs at the central spawn. These are sealed off in the map's final rendition. The scrapped section seems fully finished with decoration and even a loot chest that is refilled during gameplay.
Lair
Multiple oddities are present in the small variant. An arrow made out of quartz blocks at world spawn points into the arena's direction. The arena itself has a Minecraft:creeper face carved into its outer walls. Both variants have an unused room that is sealed off from the arena. Whereas the room of the small variant is empty, that of the large variant is fully decorated.
Atlantis
A few inaccessible rooms are located underground which appear to be leftovers from a once planned segment in the arena's large variant that was ultimately scrapped.
Ruin
Both map variants contain several cut rooms and staircases which would have connected different parts of the map. Although a select few are partially decorated, they appear mostly unfinished. Furthermore, parts of the background city scenery around the arenas are heavily obscured and consequently unused.
Siege
Unutilized Minecraft:redstone wiring is scattered throughout the small arena. They appear to have been intended for differing purposes, as, for example, a few connect to various dispensers containing splash potions of Minecraft:weakness, Minecraft:poison and Minecraft:slowness, whereas it is unclear what the rest was intended for. In addition, between the two canals in the large arena which can be accessed during standard gameplay, an unfinished third canal is found.
TU46 tutorial world
The file of the Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition TU46 tutorial world is still present in the game files.
Developer tools
Template:Incomplete section 4J Studios utilized a number of debug tools to aid during Legacy Console Edition's development.
Other
An unused menu is found in the game's data, which shows a map of all biomes in a world before it is initially generated. It has options to randomize the seed, zoom into the map and change the Minecraft:world size. The playable area of the seed can also be shifted in the X and Z directions with directional inputs. These do not function correctly when the world is generated, leaving artifacts where the world would have ended if it was not shifted or scaled.

Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition stores save names and thumbnails in an extensionless file named _MinecraftSaveInfo. Minecraft:PS3 Edition stores save names in an extensionless file named FILEINFO in a folder named <TITLE-ID>-CACHE. Minecraft:PS4 Edition stores the save name in a PARAM.sfo file in a sce_sys folder in the save's folder. Minecraft:Wii U Edition stores the save name and thumbnail of a world in a .ext file located next to an identically named, but extensionless, save file.
