20w06a (labeled as Snapshot 20w06a in-game) is the first Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.16, released on February 5, 2020,<ref name="20w06a">Template:Snap</ref> which adds several new Minecraft:Nether Update features, like new biomes, the Template:Command command, and fixes some bugs. This is the first snapshot released in 2020.

Can be found throughout Minecraft:the Nether at any altitude, though it is much more common at lower levels.
Can be refined into a Minecraft:netherite scrap by smelting in a Minecraft:furnace or Minecraft:blast furnace.
Same Minecraft:blast resistance as Minecraft:obsidian.
As an item, it floats on Minecraft:lava.
Cannot burn in lava or Minecraft:fire.
A Minecraft:diamond pickaxe or better is required to mine it.
Always spawns covered by lava or blocks on all sides.

Makes up Minecraft:basalt pillars.
Generates in Minecraft:soul sand valleys.
Can be placed directionally, similarly to Minecraft:logs.

Have animated textures.
Have a top texture similar to regular log blocks.

Don't burn.
Crafted from the respective stem.
Can be used to craft respective Minecraft:slabs, Minecraft:stairs, Minecraft:fences, Minecraft:fence gates, Minecraft:pressure plates, Minecraft:buttons, Minecraft:doors, and Minecraft:trapdoors.

Template:Animate Crimson and Warped Signs

Work like normal wooden signs.
Cannot be crafted in this snapshot.
Currently unobtainable in Survival mode.

Template:Animate Crimson and Warped Fungi

Generate in crimson and Minecraft:warped forests, respectively.
Can be placed on Minecraft:dirt, Minecraft:coarse dirt, Minecraft:farmland, Minecraft:podzol, Minecraft:nylium, Minecraft:soul soil, and Minecraft:grass blocks.
Minecraft:Bone meal can be used on fungi to grow it into the respective Minecraft:huge fungi when placed on nylium.
Unlike Minecraft:mushrooms, fungi cannot spread.

Template:Animate Crimson and Warped Nylium

Resemble Minecraft:grass blocks.
Can be spread to Minecraft:netherrack by using bonemeal on a netherrack block next to a nylium block.

Foliage that generates in both crimson and warped forest biomes, as well as Minecraft:soul sand valleys.

Generates naturally in the Minecraft:soul sand valley biome in Minecraft:the Nether.
Deals Minecraft:damage at a rate of Template:Hp per second as opposed to the Template:Hp per second of regular fire.
Does not extinguish when in the Minecraft:rain.<ref>Template:Bug resolved as "Works as Intended"</ref>

Gives off a light level of 10.
Crafted similarly to a normal Minecraft:lantern, using a Minecraft:soul fire torch instead of a normal torch.

Generates as a part of huge warped fungi. Sometimes generates in the ground replacing the Minecraft:warped nylium in warped forest biome.

Is placed on the bottom of a block and grows downward.

Minecraft:Crafted with a Minecraft:netherite ingot and the respective diamond item.
Don't burn in Minecraft:lava or Minecraft:fire as items or when worn (Minecraft:players equipping netherite armor, however, can still take Minecraft:fire damage).
Float in lava.
Grant one additional point of knockback resistance per item.
Tougher than diamond armor.
Have higher Minecraft:durability and Minecraft:enchantability than diamond.

Crafted with a netherite ingot and the respective diamond item.
Float in lava.
Cannot burn in lava or fire.
Have higher durability, mining level, breaking multiplier, and enchantability than diamond.

- Then, if it is not less than 15, the detected signal becomes the input signal. Otherwise, it also gets a signal from Minecraft:item frame and container behind separated by a redstone conductor block from the comparator, and take the maximum of the three as the input signal.

Nether biome

The old "Nether" biome is now called "Nether Wastes".

Minecraft:Structures

Minecraft:Shipwrecks and Minecraft:ocean ruins are now less common.

Command format

General

The message shown when running an unknown/incomplete command has changed.

Gameplay

Minecraft:Advancements

The description of the "Sky's the Limit" advancement has changed from "Find Elytra" to "Find elytra."

Knockback resistance

Is now a scale of the amount of knockback taken instead of a probability to take no knockback.

Minecraft:Patrols

No longer spawn when the Minecraft:player is close to any intact Minecraft:village.

Minecraft:Recipe book

The Minecraft:cartography table recipe now unlocks with Minecraft:paper instead of Minecraft:string.

Minecraft:Sounds

Updated block sounds for Minecraft:bone blocks, Minecraft:netherrack, Minecraft:soul sand, Minecraft:nether wart blocks, Minecraft:nether bricks (and variants), and Minecraft:nether quartz ore.

Spawn

Players can reset their spawn point using a Minecraft:bed when Minecraft:monsters are near, although players still cannot sleep when mobs are near.

General

Minecraft:Debug menu

When outside the world's vertical area, the debug menu no longer lists 'minecraft:the_void' as the biome.
- Instead, it simply hides the Minecraft:biome information.
