The arrival of the Garou
Sometime after Guthix's departure and the arrival of the dragonkin, the garou, a race of beastmen, arrived from their homeworld of Dragonwilds:Antumnos. Led by their moon goddess, Dragonwilds:Lougrim, they settled primarily in the highlands of what would later be known as Ghornfell. The exact timing of their arrival remains uncertain, but by early Dragonwilds:Third Age accounts, they were already established inhabitants of the continent. The garou's arrival created a new dynamic on Ashenfall. The garou maintained their territories and traditions. The garou society was built upon strength and practised the sacred tradition of the right of challenge, where leadership was earned through combat prowess rather than birthright.{{CiteJournal|journal=Leathery Parchment|quote=My people have a tradition that is sacred above all others; the right of challenge. There is nothing we respect more than strength or cunning. When one defeats a challenger, they prove themselves rightful of their position. Their presence and continued devotion to their goddess fostered envy among the abandoned Guthixian humans. Brakka, at some point during this period, used the garou for slave labour to build his tower before learning how to siphon anima and gaining the power to control the earth itself, making slave labour obsolete. The timing of the tower's construction is not recorded, and the enslavement may have taken place either before or during the human-garou war.

The Garou society was built upon strength and practiced the sacred tradition of the right of challenge, where leadership was earned through combat prowess rather than birthright.{{CiteJournal|journal=Garou Writings|quote=My people have a tradition that is sacred above all others; the right of challenge. Their presence and continued devotion to their goddess fostered envy among the abandoned Guthixian humans. Brakka, at some point during this period, used the Garou for slave labor to build his tower before learning how to siphon anima and gaining the power to control the earth itself, making slave labor obsolete (the timing of the tower's construction is not known; enslavement either happened before or during the human-Garou war).

The God Wars
The God Wars
Not much is known from there until the Third Age. On the mainland, the God Wars raged. Saradominist missionaries arrived on the continent, intent on escaping the God Wars and converting the Guthixians who had been abandoned. Unbeknownst to the Saradominists, Zamorakian spies were also in their midst, posing as laborers and other menial servants. The missionaries lived near the cliffs, where they could look back towards their old home but also mixed with the villagers of Bramblemead, eventually setting up the Dragonwilds:Temple of Saradomin in place of their previous encampment. The first Dragonwilds:Runecrafting Guild was created on the continent, where saradominist Wizards of the guild would research the magic of the land. Initially, the Saradominists and Guthixians maintained a symbolic alliance known as the Dragonwilds:Bronze Advisors, represented by bronze armor. During this period, druids wore pins of copper while Saradominist priests wore tin pins, materials that combined to form bronze.{{CiteJournal|journal=Bronze Helmet|quote=For a while, in the third age, druids wore pins of copper, and the Saradominist priests wore tin pins. Ashenfall was mostly untouched by the world until the Third Age. On the mainland, the God Wars raged on, forcing plenty of people to seek refugee elsewhere. Things seemed peaceful, and the God Wars were contained to the mainland; however, the people of Ashenfall would soon find their own conflict. There was a power shift; at first, it was amongst themselves, with Saradominist leaders attempting to overthrow the Guthixian druids and push them elsewhere within the continent. Policies began to slip more and more in favor of the Saradominist approach as the Guthixian faith slowly dwindled. At this point in history, humans held an uneasy peace with the Garou, but the tension was building. The Saradominist humans had started to encroach on Garou lands in search of iron and other resources that had been depleted in the Bramblemead Valley. As the humans cleared the area of trees and animals to mine for iron, they attracted the attention of Garou hunting parties. These parties viewed the presence of the Saradominists as a sleightful disrespect of their sovereignty. Small skirmishes between the hunting parties and the humans became commonplace, but they rarely resulted in significant casualties. However, the conflict escalated into an all-out war when Dragonwilds:Kessel, a fire-touched amalgam, struck down a Garou prince.

The war between both sides was at a stalemate as the Dragonwilds:Whispering Swamp acted as a buffer between the two factions, often drowning and ensnaring those who attempted to breach the no-mans-land.{{CiteJournal|journal=Whispering Swamp|quote=When war broke out between humans and garou, it was the swamps that formed a buffer between the two factions. Eager to take revenge, Bandos agreed to the plan and arrived at Ashenfall with his followers. With the goblins' assistance, the humans began pushing the Garou back, forcing their goddess to form an alliance with the Dragonkin and place herself in their servitude. In turn, the Dragonkin unleashed their creations in the battle to support the Garou, including massive wyverns that darkened the sky and dragons with elemental powers. This shift changed the tide of the war. Bandos personally confronted one of the dragon generals, Dragonwilds:Velgar, who was stationed atop Brakka's Folly. With the goblins' help, the humans started pushing the Garou back, forcing their goddess to ally with the Dragonkin and placing herself in their servitude. The Dragonkin released their creations into the battle to assist the Garou, great wyverns that blotted the sky, and dragons with elemental abilities. The tide of the war changed. Bandos personally confronted one of the stronger dragons that Dragonkin had created: Velgar. Victory seemed assured for Bandos, but in a final act of desperation, Velgar summoned a great stone from the air that dazed him. Seizing the opportunity, Velgar unleashed an anima-infused poison blast, which poisoned and weakened Bandos, shifting the momentum of the battle.
The Human-Garou War
At this point in history, humans held an uneasy peace with the garou, but the tension was building. Guthix had departed, and the humans he left behind were godless while the garou still walked with their own deity. That absence bred resentment. The sight of the garou goddess moving through human settlements on diplomatic visits stirred envy among the Guthixians, who held that abandoned humans deserved divine attention more than beasts did, and that Ashenfall belonged to a human nation.{{CiteJournal|journal=Forgotten Diary|quote=We've managed without Guthix's presence for centuries now. Weakened by the poison, Bandos made a "tactical retreat", abandoning his goblins on Ashenfall. In his jubilant rage following Bandos' retreat, Velgar spilled his own blood across the fertile plains in the south-east of Dragonwilds:Ghornfell, a refuge where Garou fleeing the conflict had grown fields of wheat and barley; the crops blackened and the land was corrupted into what would become the Dragonwilds:Bloodblight Swamp. They would be formed into the Shadow Knights, and eventually the Black Knights.

Destruction of Settlements
Far to the east, in the sands, the dragonkin Avisk pursued a design of his own. He plotted to make himself immortal. He had already completed his work on the Avisk crystals, allowing him to preserve his consciousness within them, but he also began developing a means of transferring himself into a perfect vessel, a Dragonwilds:Kalphite Queen. Where his fellow Aughra sought to escape the dragonkin curse by moving their minds into a single new body, Avisk meant to become the swarm entire. His work, however, would soon be interrupted by the coming hostilities.
With their Goddess replaced, the uneasy truce between the Garou and humans would not last. The dragons and Garou began to decimate human settlements, burning cities to the ground, murdering lords and knights, and forcing survivors to flee into the wilderness and other regions. However, within Fellhollow, Dragonwilds:Imaru and her mate Dragonwilds:Xikotal showed mercy to the settlement, protecting them from destruction and granting them a "Blessing" that allowed them to work together. This blessing would prove to be both gift and curse. Kuldra would learn of this act of mercy and, as punishment, killed Imaru's mate. Consumed by grief, Imaru sought a way to bring Xikotal back from the dead, seeking the assistance of the necromancer Dragonwilds:Ravanna. However, Ravanna did not have the power to resurrect him. Instead, she proposed creating a curse born of Imaru's sorrow and grief; One that would give her the power to consume the Dragon Queen's soul and exact her revenge.{{CiteJournal|journal=Ravanna's Fourth Journal|quote=Imaru. After the death of her mate she came to me seeking a way to bring him back. Necromancy doesn't work like that, at least not yet and certainly not within my skill set. The curse was not enough, Kuldra had proven more powerful than imagined, defeating Imaru with ease. Even in death, Imaru did not give up. She became twisted with an insatiable hunger for souls and turned against the very people she had once protected. The "Blessing" that linked them was now used against them; their souls pulled from their still-living bodies. These soulless husks began to reanimate. Soon the settlements in Fellhollow would fall, and the region would become a land of rot and wither where the undead roamed. The Wild Knights were pushed back towards their keep, while Emberwood sealed itself behind a barrier. Dowdun Reach, shielded by the Dowdun Mountains, sealed all connecting pathways to Fellhollow and posted guards at the crypt as an early warning against breach.{{CiteJournal|journal=A Report on the Withering|quote=It is our recommendation that all efforts are made to seal Dowdun Reach. We should be focused on removing these opportunities for intrusion. All connecting pathways to the subcontinent of Fellhollow should be severed. Those who were disciples of Imaru came to believe she was blessing the humans, willingly transforming them into undead. The necrotic magic spread like a virus, eventually turning even the ogres into zombies and infecting the Wild Knights as well. Those who tried to escape found the passage to the south sealed off. Dragonwilds:Ravanna, the one who cursed Imaru, would attempt to fix her mistake and seal the dragon away, and split the curse into three fragment, in hope that in the future, someone can use the power of the curse againt Imaru.
Dragon Rebellion
Near the end of the Third Age, the Dragonwilds:Dragon Rebellion began when Kuldra led the dragons against their dragonkin masters. In the years leading up to her betrayal, Kuldra sought counsel and may have considered other options. Ultimately, however, she was swayed by the advice of her most trusted ally, Velgar, who insisted that brutality was the only language their masters would understand. Velgar, however, also had personal reasons to support the rebellion, having suffered as a beast of burden under Brakka, despite his innate combat prowess. When the war against the goblins and humans brought dragons into the conflict, Velgar was finally allowed to join the battle. He slaughtered without mercy, decimating settlements and entire platoons with barely any effort. However, once the fighting subsided, Brakka rewarded Velgar's brutality with further servitude, forcing him to haul materials for reconstruction efforts. When Velgar was recruited by Kuldra to overthrow their master, he immediately accepted her scheme, becoming her first ally aside from Fuzan.

The rebellion proved successful. Kuldra confronted Brakka at his tower, crushing him and consuming his anima-rich soul to steal his power.{{CiteJournal|journal=Fractured Cape|quote=Kuldra, the godeater, crushed him beneath her great claw and feasted on his anima-rich soul. After freeing herself and other dragons from dragonkin control, Kuldra set her sights on expanding her power. She would challenge Lougrim next, though not in the fair combat that garou tradition demanded. The battle between Kuldra and Lougrim was cataclysmic, causing the entire continent to buckle beneath their fury. Kuldra never called a challenge at all. The rebellion cut Avisk's work short. Plundering the stores of the late Lacrussa, he built the Dreaming Stone, a crystal vessel vast enough to contain the whole of his mind, and prepared to cast his thoughts into the Kalphite Queen and command the swarm through her.{{CiteText|text=Avisk’s Experiment Log|quote=The dragons have turned against us and I run out of time to perfect my experiments with the Kalphite hive. Of the Cabal, he alone escaped in this way while his colleagues perished or went into hiding.{{CiteText|text=Avisk’s Experiment Log|quote=It may not work, but I have little time for iteration. ====The Golden Age of the Moon garou====
The garou are woodland creatures by nature, and the dunes tested them sorely. For a time they wandered godless, though a god already dwelt amongst the dunes undetected. Dragonwilds:Elidinis, a goddess of the rivers, growth, and fertility, had arrived on Ashenfall at some unknown time and settled within Umbral Sands. The two peoples remained strangers until the day a cub vanished into the desert. The Old Kingdom flourished without her, entering a golden age in which a people once defined by the hunt turned instead to art, scholarship, and magic.

Destruction of Settlements
While the exiles built their new lives in the desert, the lands they had fled fared no better. With Lougrim replaced by Kuldra, the uneasy truce between the garou and humans would not last. ====Umbral Sands====
The Moon garou of Umbral Sands met their own destruction. Despite the stone's power helping them rebel again the draconic attack, Lord Rasmodel ultimately destroyed the Dreaming Stone with his warhammer, though the consequences of its shattering proved worse than the affliction.{{CiteJournal|journal=Rasmodel's Diary|quote=The stone will be destroyed. The search crosses the whole of the desert, through Dragonwilds:kalphites and KotHaar, ancient secrets, and strange sights, until all three lenses are gathered. The Mirror Relay is raised and the way to Fuzan's Tower is opened, though not without struggle. Hordes of KotHaar hold the tower, but the summit is reached and the red dragon is slain. Icthlarin is given the head of Fuzan, and names the final challenge, Queen Kuldra herself.

Ashenfall is the continent in Dragonwilds:Gielinor that RuneScape: Dragonwilds is set in. It is divided into various regions, each of which contains different creatures, monsters, and biomes.

It is located north of the mainland continent in RuneScapeTemplate:CiteVideoTemplate:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal.

Regions

Geography

Ashenfall is divided into five major territorial divisions: Brynmoor in the south, Ghornfell in the north, Fellhollow to the far north, and with the Umbral Sands in the far south divided from Fellhollow by the mountainous region of Dowdun Reach. The geography becomes more wild and dangerous as one travels further inland, with the Anima Twist phenomenon growing stronger deeper into the continent.Template:CiteJournal

Dragonwilds:Brynmoor

The southern territories of Ashenfall include:

Dragonwilds:Ghornfell

The northern territories include:

Dragonwilds:Fellhollow

The far northern territories include:

Dragonwilds:Dowdun Reach

South of Dragonwilds:Silverthorn Keep, but north-east of Ghornfell, this region includes:

Dragonwilds:Umbral Sands

South-east of Dragonwilds:The Bastion and directly east of Ghornfell, this region includes:

Unique Phenomena

Anima Twist

Template:Main After the Elder Gods created Dragonwilds:Gielinor, and prepared to sleep while their eggs consumed the planet's anima slowly, they discovered some impure, "wild" Dragonwilds:anima which they disliked, and they used the continent of Ashenfall to "vent out" the impure anima from the world.Template:CiteVideo This resulted in the anima twist phenomenon enveloping the continent, with its effects getting stronger further into the continent.Template:CiteJournal The anima twist affects not only the environment, but the creatures and people living on it, as well as magic itself. This results in common materials like wood and stone being capable of lasting hundreds or even thousands of years, and the inhabitants of the continent to become Dragonwilds:Amalgamated,Template:CiteJournal creatures that would be enhanced with elemental properties due to the land's wild anima. The effects of the Anima Twist can be observed in the transformed wildlife, with wolves developing manes made of leaves, deer possessing reed-like fronds, and trees displaying leaves in unusual hues resembling sunset.Template:CiteJournal

Dragonwilds:Dragonkin Vaults

Hidden across Ashenfall are numerous Dragonkin Vaults, ancient facilities containing lost knowledge and technological wonders. These vaults are protected by guardians created by the Dragonkin Dragonwilds:Lacrussa, using refined rune essence.Template:CiteJournal

Inhabitants

Garou

Garou are bipedal lion-like beings who once worshipped the moon goddess Dragonwilds:Lougrim. Their society is divided between noble-born (larger, stronger, capable of magic) and common-born.Template:CiteJournal

Dragonwilds:Amalgamated

Humans and other creatures affected by the Anima Twist can develop elemental mutations, becoming known as the "Amalgamated". These traits can include fiery skin, leafy hair, or other magical characteristics. Throughout Ashenfall's history, the Amalgamated faced persecution from "pure" humans.Template:CiteJournal

Goblins

Goblins are green-skinned humanoids who were brought from the mainland by their "God of War" Dragonwilds:Bandos, during the Dragonwilds:Third Age. They were abandoned in Ashenfall when he retreated from his battle against Velgar; they now worship Velgar as their new "Big High War God".

Template:RSL

Ogres are large humanoids who sought refugees from war. They were turned into Dragonwilds:Zogres when Imaru infected the region with necrotic energy.

Dragons

Dragons (Draconis rex) are a dangerous race of reptiles with wings and the ability to use a fiery breath attack. After being cursed by the Elder God Template:RSL to guard her most powerful artefact, a creed of Dragonkin known as the Dactyl wished to create a race that would be similar to them, but without suffering the Curse's effects. In Ashenfall, a group of Dragonkin refugees known as the Dragonwilds:Cabal would also create and empower their own dragons, using them as slaves. Today, they roam across Ashenfall, all servants of Dragonwilds:Kuldra.

Dragonwilds:Undead

Undead are creatures that have died and were reanimated through magic. These creatures resides within Dragonwilds:Fellhollow, controlled by the dragon general Dragonwilds:Imaru.

Humans

Human were among the first inhabitants of Gielinor and Ashenfall, brought over by Guthix. Although they were seemingly wiped out in Ashenfall, today an expedition had led new humans to explore and reside in Ashenfall.

Template:RSL

Elves are pale humanoids brought to Gielinor by their goddess Template:RSL. Some had travelled to Ashenfall, exploring and even settling within the region.

Dragonwilds:KotHaar

KotHaar are lava creatures that were left in Umbral Sands by the Elder Gods to guard the Dragonwilds:Lens.

History

Creation

During their creation of Dragonwilds:Gielinor, the Elder Gods shaped AshenfallTemplate:CiteJournal for the sole purpose in filtering and venting impure, wild anima the Elder Gods wished to keep from the stream of anima that nourished their eggs, giving rise to the Anima Twist that pervades it.Template:CiteVideo Servitors accompanied them to Gielinor and stood guard over Ashenfall's hidden treasures long before any other race reached its shores.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteText These guardians had once belonged to the Template:RSL but broke away from the collective mind of their race to take up a duty of their own, the protection of the Dragonwilds:Lens, an device of the Elder Gods that uses the energy of the sun to set the temperature of the world to a perfectly balanced state.Template:CiteText They became known as the Dragonwilds:KotHaar.Template:CiteJournal

Discovery

During the Template:RSL, the god of balance, Dragonwilds:Guthix, discovered Ashenfall and explored it with some of his followers. After some time, they founded a village in Dragonwilds:Bramblemead Valley to settle in and explore the wondrous continent. Here, he found the land was rich with unique anima. Guthix discovered strange rocks hovering through the air.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal Sensing that the stones held magical properties, Guthix took instant interest and began to experiment on them with several of the humans.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal He took great joy in the work, and the strange rocks that would become known as rune essence seemed to lift his usually grim demeanour.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal After several experiments and failures,Template:CiteJournal Guthix began to expand his experiments, bringing the Template:RSL to assist him.Template:CiteJournal He was finally successful, binding the air itself into the essence, creating the first Dragonwilds:Air Rune.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal While his followers on Ashenfall started practising Dragonwilds:Runecrafting, Guthix would then travel to the mainland to share his discovery there, using the Stone of Jas to create more and stored them on the mainland for his followers to use there. On Ashenfall, those that travelled there with him would start forming small settlements and villages over time.

As the humans grew to inhabit their new homes, a strange phenomenon began to occur. Their beards turned to leaves, their skin glowed like fire, and some took on the qualities of the elements, becoming amalgamated and gaining elemental abilities. These amalgamated humans were viewed as "impure" and "imperfect" by some of the human settlers there, suffering persecution and even being murdered by the humans who feared them in an event known as the Dragonwilds:Schism.Template:CiteJournal When Guthix returned, he was horrified to learn of the widespread persecution and slaughter of the amalgamated humans. As such, he took some of the humans with him, those who had not fallen to cruel prejudices.Template:CiteJournal He would then task the Dragonwilds:Wild Knights, an order of skilled humans that were safeguarding the amalgamated humans, to uphold their oath in protecting both the humans from the wild, and the wild from the humans. As he left, he placed a veil over Ashenfall, hoping to hide the continent before he, too, hid himself. But, the veil was not as good as the god had hoped, as the Dragonwilds:Cabal, a group of dragonkin and outcasts among their kind settled in Ashenfall shortly after.Template:CiteVideo Only five dragonkin are known to have been part of the group. Dragonwilds:Lacrussa was a Dactyl scientist who gained the elemental power of ice and water, created the vault guardians, and experimented with dragons. Dragonwilds:Viika was a "time swept" seer with prophetic abilities. Dragonwilds:Brakka was a Nodon architect who gained the elemental power of earth and built Dragonwilds:Brakka's Folly. Dragonwilds:Rasthin was a Necrosyrte who drew the elemental power of fire from Ashenfall's mysterious vents and created a device known as "Jas Moksha" to share elemental powers with her fellow Cabal members.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal Dragonwilds:Avisk was an Aughra who gained the elemental power of air and experimented on the minds of living creatures.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal Avisk lives on to this day as the Dragonwilds:Dreaming Stone. Like their kin in the mainland, the Cabal would experiment in creating more and new draconic creatures, such as dragon wolves.

The garou society was built upon strength and practised the sacred tradition of the right of challenge, where leadership was earned through combat prowess rather than birthright.Template:CiteJournal The garou initially claimed The northern territories of Ghornfell, a region rich in natural resources. Their presence and continued devotion to their goddess fostered envy among the abandoned Guthixian humans.Template:CiteJournal Brakka, at some point during this period, used the garou for slave labour to build his tower before learning how to siphon anima and gaining the power to control the earth itself, making slave labour obsolete. The timing of the tower's construction is not recorded, and the enslavement may have taken place either before or during the human-garou war.

The God Wars

Ashenfall was mostly untouched by the world until the Third Age. On the mainland, the God Wars raged on, forcing plenty of people to seek refugee elsewhere. Saradominist missionaries arrived on the continent, intent on escaping the God Wars. Unbeknownst to the Saradominists, Dragonwilds:Zamorakian spies were also in their midst, posing as labourers and other menial servants. Initially, the Saradominists and Guthixians maintained a symbolic alliance known as the Dragonwilds:Bronze Advisors, represented by bronze armour. During this period, druids wore pins of copper while Saradominist priests wore tin pins, materials that combined to form bronze.Template:CiteJournal This alliance was protected by bronze-armoured warriors who upheld traditions and punished those who blasphemed against either faith. The Bronze Advisors offered counsel from both Saradominist and Guthixian viewpoints, order and balance side by side. Meanwhile, the Zamorakians, having formed a cult known as the Dragonwilds:Children of Shadows, plotted in secret, recognising the potential of the Dragonkin Vaults, hoping to bring a weapon home with them. Their hold over the region was further secured when a young Zamorakian discovered a mithril seam in what would become known as the Dowdun Mountains. Rather than weaponise it, the Children of Shadows treated mithril as a tool of influence, keeping it scarce to preserve its value as a means of bribery.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal

Things seemed peaceful, and the God Wars were contained to the mainland. However, the people of Ashenfall would soon find their own conflict. There was a power shift, at first amongst themselves, with Saradominist leaders attempting to overthrow the Guthixian druids and push them elsewhere within the continent. Policies began to slip more and more in favour of the Saradominist approach as the Guthixian faith slowly dwindled.

The Human-Garou War

At this point in history, humans held an uneasy peace with the garou, but the tension was building. Guthix had departed, and the humans he left behind were godless while the garou still walked with their own deity. That absence bred resentment. The sight of the garou goddess moving through human settlements on diplomatic visits stirred envy among the Guthixians, who held that abandoned humans deserved divine attention more than beasts did, and that Ashenfall belonged to a human nation.Template:CiteJournal The Saradominist humans had started to encroach on garou lands in search of iron and other resources that had been depleted in the Bramblemead Valley. As the humans cleared the area of trees and animals to mine for iron, they attracted the attention of garou hunting parties. These parties viewed the presence of the Saradominists as a slight against their sovereignty. Small skirmishes between the hunting parties and the humans became commonplace, but they rarely resulted in significant casualties. However, the conflict escalated into an all-out war when Dragonwilds:Kessel, a fire-touched amalgam, struck down a young garou prince.Template:CiteJournal

The war between both sides was at a stalemate as the Dragonwilds:Whispering Swamp acted as a buffer between the two factions, often drowning and ensnaring those who attempted to breach the no man’s land.Template:CiteJournal sometime during the conflict, the Children of Shadows had kidnapped some garou and sent them back to the mainland where they would be experimented by the Template:RSL.Template:CiteText The humans, feeling desperate, devised a plan to goad the god of war, Dragonwilds:Bandos, into joining the conflict. Saradominist priests met with emissaries of Bandos, leveraging their knowledge of an ancient slight between the garou goddess and Bandos that occurred aeons ago on another world.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal They proposed an alliance to confront the garou and their goddess. Eager to take revenge on Lougrim, Bandos agreed to the plan and arrived at Ashenfall with his followers. With the Bandosians' assistance, the humans began pushing the garou back, forcing their goddess to form an alliance with the dragonkin and place herself in their servitude for future experimentations. In turn, the dragonkin unleashed their creations in the battle to support the garou, including massive wyrms that darkened the sky and dragons with elemental powers. This shift changed the tide of the war, forcing Bandos to personally confront one of the dragon generals, Dragonwilds:Velgar, who was stationed atop Brakka's great tower. The war god stormed the tower and challenged Velgar to single combat, but the dragon's stone-touched flesh turned his blows aside, and though Bandos cut a great scar down Velgar's side the wound was not fatal.Template:CiteJournal In a display of arrogance, Bandos then cast aside his armour and protective wards and came close to throttling the dragon bare-handed.Template:CiteJournal Velgar broke the hold by calling a venom-laden rock down from the sky against the god's temple, then caught the staggered Bandos in a breath of anima-infused poison that sapped his strength.Template:CiteJournal

Weakened and fearing death, Bandos made a "tactical retreat", abandoning his followers on Ashenfall. Velgar was left wounded by the exchange, and his blood, warped by the magic his queen had granted him, had become a toxin.Template:CiteJournal In jubilant rage he spilled it across the fertile plains in the south-east of Dragonwilds:Ghornfell, a refuge where garou fleeing the conflict had grown fields of wheat and barley, and the corrupted land became the Dragonwilds:Bloodblight Swamp.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal The war also claimed the life of Dragonwilds:Ulv, a mute outcast of Bramblemead, and the finest hunter in the region.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal With the necromancer Dragonwilds:Ravanna he had killed the alpha wolf Shatterfang, whose pack had broken into Bramblemead and slaughtered its people, she binding the beast's bones in place while Ulv struck from the shadows.Template:CiteJournal The two were inseparable, and Ulv's death at the hands of a garou patrol left Ravanna grief-stricken.Template:CiteJournal Then, using the souls of slain garou, her grief-born curse tore through the Dragonwilds:Stormtouched Highlands, twisting the clouds into screaming things filled with fractured spirits. The resulting storm destroyed countless settlements instantly and has raged ever since.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal Bandos' retreat led to confusion among his goblin followers. At first the goblins continued their war without Bandos' guidance, but soon as they began to recognise the strength of the dragons and the defeat of Bandos, the abandoned goblins began to worship the dragons, naming Velgar as their new Big High War God.Template:CiteJournal With the garou victory, Lougrim would keep the peace with the humans while assisting the dragonkin in their experimentation and returning the dragons to their chains and servitude. As a goddess in tune with the natural world, Lougrim was a source of great vitality, and the dragonkin drew her blood and stored it in urns hidden across the continent, intending it to be the linchpin of their great endeavours.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal From that blood, infused into her egg by Lacrussa, came Dragonwilds:Kuldra.Template:CiteVideo Avisk had meddled with the same brood, working rune essence into the eggs in an attempt to give the dragons a greater mind, one that might function as a swarm. Every other subject died. Kuldra alone survived, and she survived changed, growing the many heads that Lacrussa insisted no sane dragon should ever bear.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteTextTemplate:CiteJournal The Dragon was therefore the work of two dragonkin at once, carrying a goddess's divinity in her blood, along with the energy of rune essence and Avisk's swarm in her skulls. In time Kuldra bore a single heir of her own, a red-scaled whelp that Lacrussa dismissed as a disappointment, and wondered aloud whether the fault lay with the father;Template:CiteText That whelp was Dragonwilds:Fuzan. For the time being, the humans and garou held an uneasy truce.

Despite this truce, the garou remained hostile towards the human settlers who were leaving the southern settlements in search of new lives elsewhere.Template:CiteText Humans made their way through an underground passage and emerged in Dragonwilds:Fellhollow, where the dragons Dragonwilds:Imaru and Dragonwilds:Xikotal befriended them, helping them raise their city and assisting them in other means,Template:CiteText where Imaru would use her magic to bring in rains, while Xikotal would calm the winds, in exchange for a few sheep and cows.Template:CiteText Imaru, whom dragonkin experiments had denied the motherhood she craved, also placed a "Blessing" upon the settlers, a magical bond that let her protection reach them anywhere.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteText Some of the Wild Knights would join in settling within Fellhollow, creating Dragonwilds:Silverthorn Keep to the west. The ogres, one of Bandos' abandoned followers, settled peacefully in Emberwood alongside the humans there, building a camaraderie that promised a new age of prosperity.Template:CiteJournal

Not every settlement was founded in good faith. The Rasmodels, nobility from the mainland, schemed in the Dragonwilds:Temple Woods and Dragonwilds:Bramblemead until their operations were exposed and the family was exiled to Dragonwilds:Dowdun Reach.Template:CiteJournal During this time, the Dragonwilds:Children of Shadows had planted themselves into the Rasmodels house, where they would attempt to influence the noble household, only to be slowly turned into bodyguards and warriors of the Rasmodels. Over time the Rasmodel family came to dominate the Children of Shadows entirely, with Milliburn Rasmodel eventually rising to become Lord Rasmodel, Master of Dowdun Reach.Template:CiteJournal Growing paranoid about Fellhollow's intentions, he established an order of knights outfitted with steel forged from coal and iron given to him by Xikotal as a gesture of goodwill.Template:CiteJournal They would be formed into the Shadow Knights, and eventually the Black Knights.

Far to the east, in the sands, the dragonkin Avisk pursued a design of his own. He plotted to make himself immortal. He had already completed his work on the Avisk crystals, allowing him to preserve his consciousness within them, but he also began developing a means of transferring himself into a perfect vessel, a Dragonwilds:Kalphite Queen.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteText Where his fellow Aughra sought to escape the dragonkin curse by moving their minds into a single new body, Avisk meant to become the swarm entire.Template:CiteJournal His work, however, would soon be interrupted by the coming hostilities.

Dragon Rebellion

Near the end of the Third Age, the Dragonwilds:Dragon Rebellion began when Kuldra led the dragons against their dragonkin masters. In the years leading up to her betrayal, Kuldra sought counsel and may have considered other options. Ultimately, however, she was swayed by the advice of her most trusted ally, Velgar, who insisted that brutality was the only language their masters would understand.Template:CiteJournal Velgar, however, also had personal reasons to support the rebellion, having suffered as a beast of burden under Brakka, despite his innate combat prowess.Template:CiteJournal When the war against the goblins and humans brought dragons into the conflict, Velgar was finally allowed to join the battle. He slaughtered without mercy, decimating settlements and entire platoons with barely any effort.Template:CiteJournal However, once the fighting subsided, Brakka rewarded Velgar's brutality with further servitude, forcing him to haul materials for reconstruction efforts.Template:CiteJournal When Velgar was recruited by Kuldra to overthrow their master, he immediately accepted her scheme, becoming her first ally aside from Fuzan.Template:CiteJournal

The rebellion proved successful. Kuldra confronted Brakka at his tower, crushing him and consuming his anima-rich soul to steal his power.Template:CiteJournal After defeating him, she bestowed his elemental mastery upon Velgar, teaching him to absorb the power of the anima font and transforming him into a dragon infused with earth magic.Template:CiteJournal As a final mockery, Velgar claimed Brakka's monument as his lair.Template:CiteJournal This tower would come to be known as Brakka's Folly. After freeing herself and other dragons from dragonkin control, Kuldra set her sights on expanding her power. She would challenge Lougrim next, though not in the fair combat that garou tradition demanded. The battle between Kuldra and Lougrim was cataclysmic, causing the entire continent to buckle beneath their fury.Template:CiteJournal Kuldra emerged the victor through ambush. garou accounts long held that the two met in honest combat, a version of events that the Forbidden Scrolls recovered by the Moon garou would later expose as false.Template:CiteNPC Kuldra never called a challenge at all. She waited until Lougrim had drained her strength protecting garou settlements from the dragons' flames, then fell upon the exhausted goddess and gave her no chance to resist.Template:CiteNPC Her many heads tore the goddess limb from limb, swallowing the pieces of her divine flesh.Template:CiteJournal The victory crowned her as the new High Queen of the garou and earned her the name God Eater.Template:CiteJournal While much of garou society bowed to the new queen out of fear, others fled, abandoning their homes to escape her tyranny. These dissenters looked to the moon for guidance and became the Moon garou.Template:CiteNPC Their long migration carried them over woodland and mountain range at the cost of many lives, and ended in the deserts of Umbral Sands as Avisk was finishing his work.Template:CiteText

The rebellion cut Avisk's work short. Plundering the stores of the late Lacrussa, he built the Dreaming Stone, a crystal vessel vast enough to contain the whole of his mind, and prepared to cast his thoughts into the Kalphite Queen and command the swarm through her.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteText As the rebels closed in, Avisk transferred himself into the stone with the scheme still unfinished, forfeiting his body so that his intellect would endure. Of the Cabal, he alone escaped in this way while his colleagues perished or went into hiding.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPC Avisk built more than one such vessel. Copies of the crystal, each holding his consciousness, remain across Umbral Sands, and destroying one only forces his mind into another.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteNPC The Dreaming Stone itself was swallowed by the sands, where it would lie for an age.

The Golden Age of the Moon garou

The garou are woodland creatures by nature, and the dunes tested them sorely. For a time they wandered godless, though a god already dwelt amongst the dunes undetected. Dragonwilds:Elidinis, a goddess of the rivers, growth, and fertility, had arrived on Ashenfall at some unknown time and settled within Umbral Sands.Template:CiteText The two peoples remained strangers until the day a cub vanished into the desert.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPC The searchers discovered the cub unharmed at an oasis no garou had ever mapped, in the company of a singing, silver-furred stranger whom they mistook for one of their own kind.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteText Elidinis presented herself as a river goddess associated to the moon, from a different Template:RSL, and the Moon garou soon gave her their devotion.Template:CiteNPC garou histories preserved her under the name El-Idahn-Inees, never recording that the goddess among them had been Elidinis.Template:CiteNPC Under her care the moon garou mastered desert life, learning from her how to build in stone and raise crops from the arid ground. To ward off supernatural dangers, she entrusted them with the Dragonwilds:mirrors, each carrying a sliver of solid moonlight at its core.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteText Their camps swelled into the giant walled cities of the Old Kingdom, where bright tapestries hung above the streets as shelter from the blowing sand, libraries kept the accumulated writings of their people, and festivals filled the year with light, song, and feasting.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteNPC In shaped stone the Moon garou raised dwellings, temples, and monuments meant to endure long after their makers.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPC Elidinis would then depart Gielinor, trusting that the civilisation she had raised could now stand without her.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPC The Old Kingdom flourished without her, entering a golden age in which a people once defined by the hunt turned instead to art, scholarship, and magic.Template:CiteNPC

Destruction of Settlements

While the exiles built their new lives in the desert, the lands they had fled fared no better. With Lougrim replaced by Kuldra, the uneasy truce between the garou and humans would not last. Kuldra had a deep hatred for humanity, holding them weak, petty and flawed, and she called for their destruction.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal The dragons began to decimate human settlements, burning cities to the ground, murdering lords and knights, and forcing survivors to flee into the wilderness and other regions.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal

Fellhollow

Within Fellhollow, Imaru and Xikotal defied the Dragon Queen, sheltering the settlements from the destruction.Template:CiteText The Blessing that bound the dragons to their people would prove to be both gift and curse. Kuldra herself descended upon the region, demanding humanity's destruction, But they declined. Imaru, Xikotal and the settlers would fight against Kuldra in hope to defend their home. But she proved too powerful, aside from defenders, Xikotal fell in the battle that followed along with his rider.Template:CiteJournal The Dragon Queen tore his heart from his chest and ate it before Imaru's eyes, sparing Imaru so that she would live with the loss.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteText Consumed by grief, Imaru sought a way to bring Xikotal back from the dead, seeking the assistance of the necromancer Dragonwilds:Ravanna. However, Ravanna did not have the power to resurrect him. Instead, she proposed creating a curse born of Imaru's sorrow and grief, one that would give her the power to consume the Dragon Queen's soul and exact her revenge.Template:CiteText

The curse was not enough, Kuldra had proven more powerful than imagined, defeating Imaru with ease.Template:CiteText Even in death, Imaru craved revenge for her fallen mate and children. She wedged herself in the Template:RSL using the curse Ravanna had given her, fuelled by her own sheer rage and will. While in the underworld, she drank from the Template:RSL to gain more power and claw her way back from death. However, this resurrection came with a terrible cost. She became twisted with an insatiable hunger for souls and turned against the very people she had once protected. The "Blessing" that linked them was now used against them, and their souls were pulled from their still-living bodies.Template:CiteText These soulless husks began to reanimate. Soon the settlements in Fellhollow would fall, and the region would become a land of rot and wither where the undead roamed. The Wild Knights were pushed back towards their keep, while Emberwood sealed itself behind a barrier. Dowdun Reach, shielded by the Dowdun Mountains, sealed all connecting pathways to Fellhollow and posted guards at the crypt as an early warning against breach.Template:CiteText Four priests of Saradomin, Zamorak, Armadyl, and Guthix united to keep the withering both in and out of the town. Those who were disciples of Imaru came to believe she was blessing the humans, willingly transforming them into undead. The necrotic magic spread like a virus, eventually turning even the ogres into zogres and infecting the Wild Knights as well. Those who tried to escape found the passage to Dowdun sealed off. Dragonwilds:Ravanna, the one who cursed Imaru, would attempt to fix her mistake and seal the dragon away. She split the curse into three fragments, in hope that in the future, someone can use the power of the curse against Imaru to put her soul to rest.Template:CiteText

Dowdun Reach

Arcane researchers among the Children of Shadows recovered the buried Dreaming Stone and bore it back to the keep.Template:CiteNPC The recovered vessel brought instability alongside its power. A faction within sought to weaponise it, while Archmage Alric' used it to power an infernal demon gate, which failed, causing its demonic souls to bleed into the fortress walls.Template:CiteText The Black Knights would defend the region against the dragons, under standing orders that any draconic presence beyond the lesser blue dragons be shot on sight.Template:CiteJournal Though the stone had come to power much of the keep itself, Lord Rasmodel, whose mind it had preyed upon for decades, ultimately took his warhammer to the Dreaming Stone and broke it.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteJournal The consequences proved worse than the affliction. The energies released by the shattering, together with the parasitic remnants of a demon, seized the lord and remade him as the Dragonwilds:Black Knight Titan, a being part Rasmodel, part Avisk, and part avernic, who stood guard over the passage to Umbral Sands until the Sixth Age.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteNPC

Umbral Sands

The Moon garou of Umbral Sands met their own destruction. Dragonwilds:Fuzan, Kuldra's youngest child, owed his fire to his mother, who had taken it from the dragonkin's Harmonic Resonator, would begin to terrorise the garou.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteJournal Deep inside a volcano, Fuzan encountered an otherworldly entity of celestial fire who claimed godhood, a being the garou would come to know as the Sun Demon. The Forbidden Scrolls place her arrival just after Fuzan's own, and the young dragon became her devoted worshipper.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteNPC She schooled him in mastery over fire, and with that power he bent the KotHaar, to his will. Fuzan also collapsed the underground tunnels by which the KotHaar had once returned to the Elder Kiln, cutting them off from their cycle of rebirth.Template:CiteJournal He also ordered them to move the Lens to his lair, where he would use the device to increase the suns' temperature over Umbral Sands, turning the region into a scorching desert.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteTextTemplate:CiteJournal He brought down the cities of the Old Kingdom, destroying even the monuments in which their history was kept, and the survivors split into far-flung tribes, reasoning that no single hunt could catch them all.Template:CiteTextTemplate:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteText Rather than exterminate the remnant, Fuzan branded the garou with his seal. The Mark siphoned their strength to feed his power, and in return most were spared his fire.Template:CiteJournalTemplate:CiteText

Rediscovery

Template:OccDur During the 13th year of the Dragonwilds:Sixth Age, with Guthix dead and the veil that concealed Ashenfall weakened by time, the continent was rediscovered. An expedition was assembled, and adventurers from across the realm answered the call, among them Dionysius the Wise Old Man, Dragonwilds:Vannaka the Slayer master, Dragonwilds:Zanik of the Template:RSL, Dragonwilds:Doric the master smith, and Dragonwilds:Cathan, a rising rookie forging his reputation. The voyage was cut short as the ship neared Ashenfall. A massive green dragon descended upon it, destroying the expedition and leaving only a handful of survivors. Those who lived washed ashore and began to explore the land, scavenging what they could to construct a Dragonwilds:lodestone, an anchor to the mainland and a beacon to call for reinforcements. Word spread once the lodestone was activated, and new and old adventurers arrived from the mainland to face the draconic threat and confront the Dragon Queen. While Dionysius, Vannaka, Doric, and Zanik prepared for their arrival, Cathan set off alone, determined to slay the dragon Velgar without aid.

Template:OccDur

Once a base is established and resources are gathered, the search for Cathan begins. He has recruited goblins to his cause and learned of a challenge horn, but he is captured by a garou and sacrificed before Velgar before the materials can be gathered. Cathan assists in the crafting of the challenge horn regardless, despite being dead. Velgar is confronted and slain, bringing peace to Brynmoor and avenging those the dragon killed.

Template:OccDur

After Velgar's defeat, Death arrives in Fellhollow with Dragonwilds:Postie Pete and Dragonwilds:Muncher and opens the way into the Dragonwilds:Forgotten Temple, a location he claims so that he might speak with the adventurers. Dionysius supplies the incantation that opens the door, and Death asks that Dragonwilds:Fellhollow be entered and that Cathan be found. Cathan is in Death's employ, and has been set to finding a way to confront Imaru and end her torment. The seal placed upon her is uncovered, the fragments are located and their power harnessed, and the undead dragon is defeated, freeing Fellhollow, Imaru, and the tormented souls.

Template:OccDur

After a period of rest, Death speaks of a colleague waiting in Dragonwilds:Umbral Sands, though the way onward is blocked in Dragonwilds:Dowdun Reach. The Wise Old Man and Postie Pete give greeting on arrival in the region and explain the barrier that bars the way to the next. The fortress is explored, and Vannaka, Zanik, and Doric are assisted in their search for the pieces of the Dreaming Stone. The barrier is bound to the stone itself, so the only road to the desert runs through repairing Avisk.Template:CiteNPC With the thirteen shards recovered and the stone made whole, Avisk lowers the barrier himself and thinks little of the effort, then invites the adventurers to surrender their minds to him so that he might deal with the Black Knight Titan in their stead.Template:CiteNPCTemplate:CiteNPC The offer is declined, and the Dragonwilds:Black Knight Titan, the transformed Lord Rasmodel, is fought and put to rest, opening the path to Umbral Sands once Doric has opened the door.

Template:OccDur

With the way opened, the desert is entered. An envoy asks that his oasis camp nearby be visited, and Fuzan is seen on patrol over the region before the Alcarrid Oasis is reached. There, Dragonwilds:Icthlarin is attempting to obtain the mirror lenses from the Moon garou tribes so that he might raise a relay to focus a beam of sunlight on Fuzan's Tower and open the way to the dragon. The Moon garou refuse him, and he asks instead that their trust be won and their lenses acquired.
