Template:Relevant category A non-renewable resource (as opposed to a Minecraft:renewable resource) is a resource that cannot be obtained in indefinite quantities in Minecraft:Survival without using certain glitches, Minecraft:commands, or Minecraft:Creative mode to create more of them. While running out of resources other than the unique Minecraft:dragon egg is not likely to be a factor in normal gameplay due to the massive size of a Minecraft world, in principle there is a finite quantity of these resources available in each Minecraft world.
Obtaining
Non-renewable resources can be found as naturally generated blocks, obtained from structure loot chests or as Minecraft:drops from certain mobs that do not respawn (like Minecraft:elder guardians), or obtained through crafting recipes that consume other non-renewable items.
Some resources are non-renewable or even unobtainable if playing on Peaceful Minecraft:difficulty, as hostile mobs do not spawn.
The degree of impact the non-renewability of a resource has on normal gameplay generally depends on how limited the resource is, but on custom maps and Minecraft:superflat worlds they can have a significant impact.
All Minecraft:status effects and Minecraft:enchantment-item combinations that cannot be obtained in Survival are non-renewable.
Shulker boxes and bundles containing non-renewable items are non-renewable.
Generated structures
These non-renewable resources are found only as loot from Minecraft:generated structures, the blocks the structures are composed of, or as non-renewable drops from mobs that generate with the structures, and cannot be obtained in other ways. This renders most of them unavailable in worlds with the "Generate Structures" option disabledTemplate:Only, with the exception of the items that can be found in Minecraft:monster rooms or Minecraft:desert wells, which are unaffected by the option.<ref>Template:Bug</ref><ref>Template:Bug</ref> These resources are generally the most finite resources in the game, though some are relatively common.
Minecraft:Enchantments on items without prior-work anvil penalty
While all enchantments obtainable in Survival other than Swift Sneak and Wind Burst are renewable, for Minecraft:treasure enchantments the only renewable way to get them on most items is by using an Minecraft:anvil to combine the item with a renewable Minecraft:enchanted book. Using an anvil in this way causes the item to gain prior work penalty, increasing the cost of future anvil use. Similar limitations apply to some high level enchantments, which cannot be renewably obtained on items with insufficient Minecraft:enchantability without using an anvil.
This renders most types of items that have at least one of these enchantments without having any prior-work penalty non-renewable. Many of these item variants are unobtainable in Survival, but some of them can be found in the loot chests of various generated structures.
Items in Minecraft:bastion remnant, Minecraft:ruined portal and Minecraft:shipwreck loot chests are limited to one enchantment, while items from Minecraft:End city or Minecraft:ancient city chests often have multiple. Minecraft:Trial chambers loot contains both types, depending on the type of item and loot table used.
Other
These non-renewable resources can be obtained from the world outside Minecraft:generated structures, and are generally more abundant. Since they generate outside structures, they can be found even in worlds with the "Generate Structures" option disabled.
Not obtainable in Survival
These resources are not obtainable as items in Minecraft:Survival, without the use of mods or glitches. However, they can be encountered as blocks and some even created or manipulated in Survival.
| Resource | Notes |
|---|---|
| Minecraft:Air<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
Minecraft:Air is completely unobtainable, even if the player is in Minecraft:Creative mode or uses Template:Cmd. |
| Minecraft:Bedrock Template:Simple slot |
Minecraft:Bedrock can be found at the bottom 5 levels of the Minecraft:Overworld, the top and bottom 4 levels of the Nether, and as part of Minecraft:End crystal structures and portals in Minecraft:the End, but cannot be broken or moved. |
| Minecraft:Budding Amethyst Template:Simple slot |
Budding amethyst generates in the innermost layer of Minecraft:amethyst geodes but cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
| Minecraft:Chorus Plant<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
Chorus plants grow from Minecraft:chorus flowers planted on Minecraft:End stone but cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
| Minecraft:End Portal Frame Template:Simple slot |
Can be found in Minecraft:strongholds, but cannot be broken or moved. |
| Minecraft:Farmland<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
Farmland may be created by tilling renewable Minecraft:dirt, Minecraft:podzol, Minecraft:grass blocks, Minecraft:mycelium , or Minecraft:dirt paths with a Minecraft:hoe, but it always drops dirt when mined. |
| Minecraft:Frogspawn<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
Frogspawn may be created by breeding Minecraft:frog using renewable Minecraft:slimeball. One frog then goes to the water to lay the frogspawn, but it cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
| Minecraft:Infested Blocks<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slot |
Infested blocks may be generated infinitely as Minecraft:silverfish infest renewable Minecraft:cobblestone, Minecraft:stone and Minecraft:stone bricks, but do not drop themselves when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used.
They also generate naturally in Minecraft:strongholds, Minecraft:igloos, Minecraft:woodland mansions and in Minecraft:mountains. |
| Minecraft:Monster Spawner Template:Simple slot |
Monster spawners can be encountered in Minecraft:monster rooms, Minecraft:mineshafts, Minecraft:strongholds, Minecraft:Nether fortresses, Minecraft:mansions, and Minecraft:bastion remnants, but drop only experience if mined. |
| Minecraft:Reinforced Deepslate Template:Simple slot |
Reinforced deepslate can be encountered in Minecraft:ancient cities but cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
| Minecraft:Tall Seagrass<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
Unlike Minecraft:tall grass and Minecraft:large fern, tall seagrass is not an item. It has a separate block ID from normal Minecraft:seagrass,Template:Only or is distinguished using a Minecraft:block state.Template:Only Tall seagrass can be created by applying Minecraft:bone meal to normal Minecraft:seagrass, but breaking tall seagrass with Minecraft:shears drops 2 normal seagrass. |
| Minecraft:Trial Spawners Template:Simple slot |
Trial spawners can be encountered in Minecraft:trial chambers but cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
| Minecraft:Vaults Template:Simple slot |
Vaults can be encountered in Minecraft:trial chambers but cannot be obtained when mined even if Minecraft:Silk Touch is used. |
Not encountered in Survival
These resources cannot be accessed, even as blocks, without using Minecraft:Creative mode or Minecraft:commands.
Bedrock Edition
These items are non-renewable in Template:El, and do not exist in Template:El.
Java Edition
These resources are not renewable Template:In, although they are Template:In. (Previously mentioned non-renewable resources are removed from the products list).

| Minecraft:Netherrack Template:Simple slot |
Template:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slot Template:Simple slotTemplate:Simple slot Template:Simple slot (Any armor with rib trim) |
When Minecraft:Nether portals generate in the air, they do not create netherrack like they do Template:In.
Rib armor trim Minecraft:smithing template can be found in Nether fortress chests, netherite upgrade smithing template can be found in bastion remnant chests. One template of the same type is required to craft duplicates using netherrack and diamonds. Items that need diamonds<ref name="vault" group="note" /> or netherite to craft remain non-renewable on Bedrock edition, despite the renewability of netherrack. |
| Minecraft:Dirt Path<ref name=":1" group="note" /> Template:Simple slot |
― | Dirt paths may be created by right-clicking renewable Minecraft:dirt, Minecraft:coarse dirt, Minecraft:rooted dirt, Minecraft:podzol, Minecraft:farmland, Minecraft:grass blocks, and Minecraft:mycelium with a Minecraft:shovel, but drop dirt when mined. However, Template:In, they can be obtained using a tool with Minecraft:Silk Touch. |
These items are non-renewable in Template:El, and do not exist in Template:El.

Peaceful difficulty
These resources are not renewable while playing in Minecraft:peaceful difficulty as their renewable methods of obtaining require the spawning of Minecraft:hostile mobs. (Previously mentioned non-renewable resources are removed from the products list).
Some resources in this difficulty may also become unavailable in Survival, as hostile mobs do not spawn. (Previously mentioned non-renewable or unobtainable resources are removed from the products list).
Going to Minecraft:the End almost always requires the use of Minecraft:eyes of ender, which are unobtainable in Peaceful difficulty, to activate the Minecraft:End portal, with the chances of requiring none being only 1 in a trillion for each End portal. Therefore, resources exclusive to the End can also be considered unobtainable in Peaceful difficulty.
